Bellator doesn't even have a heavyweight champion now, the Russian guy who was holding the belt disappeared back to Russia and never returned to Bellator and it took them several years to strip him of it.

Nelson was kind of nice to have around when he was a guy who casual fans could recognize/ironically cheer for, but the real reason to cut him is that he can't hang with top heavyweights anymore, less because he declined and more because the division has improved a lot.
