Are any of the campaign mods in working order yet? Exelrin or Corvus? I just can't bring myself to declare war on factions in the normal game. I like being able to buy their ships without issues too much.

In Uomoz's Sector I've been able to have a few successful boarding operations that have a launch at distance, but I'm toting around something like 80 marines just because I wanted to see if it would work. None of the ships have blown up yet, though a few managed to escape. Also none of them have been recovered, but it does increase the salvage bits at the end.

I am enjoying those energy torpedoes way too much. Got a pair of them mounted on the front of my Medusa and they're great for driving someone's shields into instant overload, or just blowing them up.

Also been using either the Medusa or a Mule to conduct boarding operations now. 5 attempts with 3 new ships, 1 too badly damaged ship and one explosion.

Fury-Class torpedoes are awesome, but they're somewhat less awesome when you salvo a bunch of them at an enemy capitol ship line and one of your Wolf frigates dashes across into the line of fire.

Whoops.

This is the one I'm using, and it is, in essence, a compilation of other mods all fitted together. It is also the only OP-mentioned mod that is currently updated, I think.

Also, since time of last post, I also found a Lasher blueprint.

All I gotta do now is suck less, stockpile some supplies somehow and then I can take on a huge fleet or three. :ssj:

Lashers are one of my favorite ships and the AI is pretty good at using them.

Biggest problem I've found for trade starting off is that you don't really know what the prices for the goods normally are nor what they are in other systems. An idea of what the baseline is (Or a reminder of what I bought it for) would be great.

Vanilla is not very challenging once you get a very high end ship like the Medusa/ get good at piloting. Mods tend to fill in where the main game fails - for instance, several small touches that are standard in compilation mods now (randomized/better variants, AI admirals with aptitudes) significantly hike up the difficulty. Vanilla intends to incorporate this down the road too, but Alex has been postponing it for a long time now. I assume the biggest direct difficulty hike in combat terms will arrive with the Officers patch, for instance you won't know instantly what kind of AI the enemy fleet has. Facing down a suicidal Lasher is very different from fighting a cautious one.

The gold standard of gently caress you gameplay has usually been Voidwalking in Uomoz' Sector - you start as hostile to EVERYTHING, owning a base in hyperspace, only able to construct Hounds, with the chance to loot blueprints based on stuff you kill. Hopefully we'll see that back in once we start getting on top of the new implementation methods.

Also I don't think I've seen a Pirate ship that didn't have a green crew.

Have you A) modified the .bat file to increase the memory allocation and optionally B) configured it to use a 64-bit java executable?

Because the unmodded game doesn't need it and the increased settings and 64-bit client would not be compatible with all PCs.

I'm just absolutely rolling in money in SS+ doing trading. If you have the Imperium installed (And really why would you play SS+ without all of the supported factions (including SCY) in it, the Imperium's capital system is great for responding to shortages.

My freighters are mostly Mules and the BRDY one with a handful of frigates and destroyers escorting them. I can outfight anything I can't outrun.

I don't have any supplies issue with my install of SS+. They normally sell for around 40-50 on average and occasionally I can find a place that's offering them for 10. 200 is the usual 'basic trade interruption' price.

If you pay attention to the Deep Hyperspace clouds you can see when a storm is about to break out when it starts to brighten up. If you're really clever you can trick a chasing fleet into getting caught by the storm while you make it through clean.

The PD I use often depends on what other weapons I have on the ship. I occasionally field Eagles with a full array of beams to make pressure ships and they get tac laser with the IPDAI mod. Ships with losts of burat weapons get burst lasers instead. Though of course that depends on the small slots.

I think one thing that needs to be worked on is the issue of self-preservation for the AI. One of the worst decisions IMO regarding the command points is that ordering a ship to retreat costs one. I know there's a mod that helps with this but once a ship starts taking deep armor damage into the hull I tell them to retreat.

If the AI was able to understand 'I am not winning this' then it would be better.

All ships in fleet means that it applies to any eligible ship in the fleet, not just yours.

All D mods have a deployment reduction cost assigned to them, that reduces the supply cost to bring them back up to full CR-wise. That skill just makes that also apply to their monthly upkeep cost as well, which can get them to be VERY cheap once you also have the 50% reduction in all maint cost skill.
