Fantastic app. I use it a zillion hours a day and I love it. Thank you app wizards for your hard work, dedication, and hoopy froodness.

I am somewhat concerned of late having a frog face appear and fill my screen when I turn it on because I'm not a white supremacist and while I like :getin: in context, I wonder if there is a way to have an alternate loading screen/menu icon.

That is a porn star frog, not a pepe. Please learn your SA lore.

You dinguses the point isn't that I don't know porntoes from pepe it's that I'm concerned about other people seeing the frog and misunderstanding.

If I saw someone with a white supremacist symbol on their phone, I would not inquire as to its meaning and the average non goon in 2017 will see a cartoon frog and think MRA not SA

It is a minor possibly even non issue, but I thought it was worth an ask. Better to be safe than sorry in some social situations.

This is probably a rhetorical question since I'm speaking to a goon, but why are you browsing the forums in social situations?

Social situations as in any time someone might see my phone screen, like on a bus, in a waiting room, etc. I'm not on my phone at all of I'm hanging out with someone because I'm an old who likes to actually be present in my own life.

And it's not so much that I care what strangers may think of me, although of course I do a little. It's more that normalizing what appears to be bigoted bullshit is bad.

I love our frog, but if I were, say, a Buddhist traditionalist, I wouldn't want my phone to periodically display what most people would internalize as a swastika either. I'd pick a different symbol.

The Dave posted:

Actually a lot. That's your whole concern. You also have unrealistic expectations for how many people see a frog and think White Nationalist. It's an extreme niche internet culture reference. It's not normalizing anything and the swastika reference is hilariously off point.

And this is coming from someone who hates the frog.

It's on the national news regularly now. My parents, who don't use the internet at all beyond yahoo mail, weather dot com, and netflix on their roku stick recognize the symbol and associate it with hate groups. (they don't inderstand it but they recognize it) And no, if you read my post it is not my whole concern. It's honestly a very small part of it. If some rando sees it, regardless of what they think of me it normalizes the symbol. More exposure to it deadens its impact and reinforces the idea that it is a legitimate subculture symbol rather than a hate symbol. Someone who has been a target of hate may not want to see it and I don't want to be even a small part of making the world worse for them. And it does look a lot like a knockoff pepe, it's a green cartoon frog with prominent red lips.

Again though, and I cannot stress this enough, it's something that has crossed my mind, and I thought to ask about it, but it is not a huge deal to me, or in the world. It may have a minimal impact at most on anything, but small things to matter in small ways so I asked about it. I was not trying to create a huge derail and this is probably not the thread to discuss pro-social icon choices or the impact of alt-right iconography on society.

I am not the one making histrionic claims about the effects of frog spotting, just a simple inquiry with a bit of the reasoning behind it.

Thanks again to the Devs for a fantastic app.

see, rotating swasticocks would actually be better since they would unambiguously be satire

I still don't think I want mandatory swasticock, though

Ok, serious thought here:

Often when scrolling I'll accidentally touch the link in a quote that zooms back to the quoted posy. There's no real way to recover from this in the app other than hunting down where you left off which can be tedious.

I wonder how difficult it would be for those links to be a pop-up that essentially asks if you want to jump to that post. I realize this might be way more effort than it's worth, but it would be a beneficial feature.

Weird minor bug:

I followed a link from Google to a thread and it opened in the app. Ok cool. But then anytime I left the app for a second, when I went back in it took me back to that thread I had followed a link to the day before instead of to where I just was.

I eventually force stopped the app and restarted and it's ok now but that was annoying for a while if ultimately harmless.

If you click a quote link to jump to that post you basically lose where you were since there is no way to open it in a new "tab" or whatever. Is there some way to be able to jump back to wherever you were last, like the back button on a browser might do?

I've accidentally clicked a quote link before and got lost and it sucked.

I'm more concerned about its effects on others than myself. Microaggressions (whether you like that term or not) exist and are bad and generally easily avoidable.

It is also not a major concern by any means

It's not "thor's hammer" it's a specific stylistic depiction of it, and it's less recognizable than a cartoon frog. But you're right, if it changes it probably shouldn't change to a different problematic symbol.

No one is acting like we won't be ok. That it isn't a huge deal doesn't mean it's no deal.
