Coraline (source author not withstanding) is amazing in 3d and actively uses 3d as part of the storytelling. When in the real world, they keep the effect slightly on the flat side. There’s depth, but it’s more muted. When she goes through the little door, it’s the exact opposite. They exaggerate the depth slightly beyond what would be “normal”. It really enhances the contrast between the two worlds.

I can imagine something like the transition effect in the lift in Severance being really good in 3D but it looks like the ship sailed on in-home 3D

Tron Legacy is also a good pick for 3d effects if you want to show off your display, along with Dredd and the first pacific rim if I’m not mistaken.

Coraline. Dredd. Gravity. I've heard good things about the 3d version of the Spiderverse movies, but haven't seen them.

I was very happy that the Dredd 4k actually includes the 3d disc as well (wish more would do that). Unfortunately, they started getting stingy about US releases of 3d titles so I don’t have things like Spidervese. I do have a lot of movies in both 3d and UHD and I’ll almost always reach for the 3d one first. I feel like I need to since at some point that experience is going to go away completely. I have two backup ways I can watch 3d (nebula 4k projector with active shutter glasses and PSVR1 with a PS4), but neither are as good or as easy.

Pissing me off this morning: it is the year of our worst timeline 2025 and apparently the way to get a CSV dump of the members of a dist list in 365 is to .... open Outlook, prepare an email to the list, expand the list, copy/paste the list of members, then paste into Excel and work on the blob of text. (Or if you're me, write a python script to chew on it, but I digress.) Does anyone there use their own loving product?

If we’re still talking about TV’s I’d just like to take a moment to complain how universally garbage Samsung’s software is. Whether it’s the pixel* competing with flagship Samsungs despite having worse hardware, or uh, loving everything about their ad ridden POS TV OS, it’s just not even funny. I’m replacing one 4K Samsung oled with an LG C4 because I’m just fed up with the garbage smart TV OS - even when it’s disconnected from the internet it is hella slow and passthrough audio doesn’t work. also I dropped a knife on it and there’s a constant tiny white spot that’s driving me batty, which along with incipient tariffs was my excuse for the sidegrade. *which has such a stellar AI integration vs the iPhoneI’m almost considering switching. iOS is sooooo behind here it’s embarrassing.

My brother-in-law bought an LG OLED a few weeks ago and the OS still has advertised poo poo in it and requires an account to be able to do things like download the Paramount app. Also does something where it powers on every CEC-enabled source when the TV turns on regardless of whether you've picked that input or not.

If it's anything like my Samsung the ads won't start until the day it's too late to return it.

The TV doesn’t need a connection when they do the job worse than dedicated smart home devices. Hence why I have a google tv streamer setup as a dumb receiver for all my casting needs. gently caress webOS/tizen app crapware. The nice thing about the Google streamer (and earlier chromecast/Google Tv/fire TV/ nvidia shield) devices is that they run native android TV too, so you can use ADB to get a shell on the device and do things like set ambient mode timers explicitly. Dear security director: please define the word "operationalizing" and explain why you felt the need to use it in a ticket.

Pissing me off: M365 support ignoring everything I wrote in the support ticket because I knew they'd ask and replying in an email asking for the information I already provided. Then after I requested they please review what I wrote in the ticket they asked if they could call me despite my also selecting the option to be called instead of emailed, which they ignored.

I assume these third-party offshore teams have utilisation metrics to hit and sitting on the phone for 30 minutes is the best way to game them, because I can never seem to get anybody to honour the "no please just email me back" option

Hopefully they're at least not calling you in the middle of the loving night because they ignore what time zone you noted down in the ticket. I'm waiting for it, the trifecta is in play.

I have a seven month old ticket with M365 that is still open and has gone through five support engineers. I would actually be thrilled if someone wanted to screen share or something, because every person I've emailed in this ticket has displayed less than the least amount of effort in helping.

The MSP that has a contract with our company has decided to subcontract out the on-site work. This person does not have admin credentials and it has apparently been weeks since the first time he came out. I need to see about getting him at least local admin because you can't do a drat thing here without admin credentials so I might as well not have him there otherwise. Today was an absolute shitshow and he was sitting there unable to do anything.

It drove me up the wall because I was pretty clear in emails on steps to be taken and would just be repeating that verbatim, except at 6am or 8pm instead of my normal hours.

There are times where I can’t change the loving volume on my garbage-rear end Samsung tv because the loving computer froze. The video from whatever input is still working but the tv is unresponsive to any remote input (including power) and the volume number is stuck on screen because despite this being a solved problem of embedded devices for 50 years they instead decide the same computer that runs the lovely apps and ads also controls the remote input and volume and now I have to get off my couch and unplug my tv and plug it back in to reset it like a god damned linksys router from the aughts.

I'd be perfectly happy if my TV was like my computer monitor except bigger. It doesn't need to do anything other than have a handful of video inputs and show 4k resolution at 60hz on a 50"+ panel. I don't need a TV decoder, AI image processing, a built in youtube player or any other "smart" feature. Unfortunately the only devices like that are digital billboards which are built for an entirely different use case and cost $$$.
