Oh man, I completely spaced and forgot this was coming back so soon. Only reason I even thought about it was that today's news sort of mentioned that Sherlock S3 doesn't start until next year. Very glad I did, though. I loved the take on Mycroft and Lestrade. Not quite what I expected, but in a good way and hope to see more of them. And also hoping for much more Clyde. ![]() Didn't mind the issues with London not being wholly accurate, but I haven't been to London in years so I didn't notice quite as much.

Pretty sure the murder was just there so that they could avoid anything overtly controversial with the leaking of federal secrets stuff. I was more interested in the silly (and not so silly) antics of not-Anonymous, Sherlock's constant debates with them and stuff anyway.

The stepmom's alibi reminded me of one of the cases in season 1. The one were some random guy's alibi for murder was that he was recording something to blackmail someone with. That's not quite a patch on "I couldn't have murdered him because I was too busy planning to murder him!" though. ![]()

The weirder part is that his name was Tobias in Season 1. No idea why it changed, but it did.

^ Yes, repeatedly. Between the curious incident of the dog in the night last week, and an actual horse named Silver Blaze being apparently related to the case this week, I get the feeling that this seasons writers really loved that short story.

I was hoping it'd be genuine too, since it was such a good way to give some really weird private cases. We've had some already, yeah, but they were all ultimately police business too. And since it's going to be undoubtedly be overlooked for the Mycroft stuff, I looked up (Swedish) Moose Cheese out of curiosity. Stuff costs $500/lb, which is pretty nuts.

I didn't get that impression, but rather that the poor guy was going to be used as a surrogate for Holmes' current problems with Detective Bell. The deputy commissioner's definitely up to something though.

jscolon2.0 posted:Moriarty's mentor better be a plot point. I'd be more surprised if it doesn't come up again. There's a couple other things that are probably going to tie into something major at some point; that trunk of cold cases Watson got and Mycroft's nebulous scheme to get Sherlock back in London immediately come to mind. There's a fair few ways they could all tie together amazingly, though which one they pick, if any, is still up in the air.

Yeah, I didn't think they'd add and then resolve that this fast. I guess it sort of makes sense since everyone saw it coming in the first place, but it could've been paced better.

The dinosaur thing was a really cool framing device for one the cold cases, I gotta say. Might not hold up to any real scrutiny, but I'm not exactly into archaeology or its ilk so I didn't really notice. As an introduction to the kind of stuff we might see down the line, it worked remarkably well and got me interested to see what future ones might have in store. Shame that with the "biggest smuggler in the city" thing, they didn't have a callback to Arnold Vosloo's guy from the season 1 finale. Even a mention in the "well it used to be..." sense, would've worked but nothing.

There's an episode tonight, right? I hope Lestrade's in that one too, so he gets something happier on-screen than the last affair. It'd sit a lot better than it being shunted to off-screen antics between episodes at least. Also I just want to see more Lestrade. Making him a gloryhound was really clever, and it works so, so well.

I figured the ears were hers, albeit left over from her plastic surgery.

Yeah, I had him pegged as the killer too from his first appearance, then when they were all "he used to be an inmate here and he got dental work here off the books" at the 25 minute mark I knew it was wrong. Good to know the obvious answer was indeed too obvious for once.

Well, drat. Watson getting drugged and kidnapped by the French mafia who may or may not be working with Mycroft is sure as hell one way to go for the build up for the finale. Cannot wait to see where it goes from here. ![]()

hollylolly posted:Ep. 23 Art in the Blood - no description yet Actually, there is. (also very spoiler-y for similar reasons) Holmes and Watson come into contact with MI-6, the British intelligence agency, when a standard murder investigation turns out to have international and political implications. Meanwhile, in the wake of a crisis, Watson reevaluates her relationships with Sherlock and his brother, Mycroft.

Yeah, the setup was fantastic and I loved how Escape Artist played when Sherlock was getting Mycroft's fingerprints from the mould. Super reminiscent of a similar thing early in S1 where it played, so that was perfect. Aside from that, there's a ton of great moments that just picking out one is really hard to do. Next week can't come quick enough.

We still don't know anything about her mentor, there's only been one cold case touched so far, the heroin from the book is now in Sherlock's pocket, what's gonna happen to Clyde, Romulus and Remus if Sherlock's out playing secret agent and Watson's moved out? So many things for S3 to consider doing. I wonder how many they even intend to go with, if any.

I can't find anything on an air date (not for a lack of looking), but it does have some new cast members... Opehlia Lovibond as Holmes' new assistant... Kitty Winter. And Raza Jaffrey as Watson's (currently unnamed?) new boyfriend. One of them certainly has my interest piqued all the more to say the least (a sort-of antagonistic character who was only in one short story (Illustrious Client; lady threw acid in a guy's face, kinda hard to spin that as a good thing to do) as Holmes' new partner is a rather curious decision) so I really can't wait to see where they go from there.
