I stuck with the first season faithfully and it served me well. Love me some Lucy Liu Watson and Miller Holmes banter. I wonder, if they're going to London, who will take care of Clyde? ![]()

Goodness, I did miss the banter between Watson and Sherlock. But ha, Joan was right! That scene with Mycroft was so nicely somber and sincere. It takes a whole season to be friends with Sherlock!! edit: hahaha oh my god the end Compendium fucked around with this message at 06:01 on Sep 27, 2013 |

I really liked the scene where Sherlock and Joan see Lestrade taking all the credit. When Sherlock was describing his mix of emotions, there was something in his eyes that really displayed it. It makes me really love Miller's portrayal and acting, he seems to make sure to show characterization not just through line delivery, but through his body language and eyes.

I happily welcome any news about the real star of the show. Gonna say, that I wasn't quite listening to Joan's conversation with Sherlock seriously, not when there's two cadavers in the room...

Watson, I expect you to have better taste in men! I love Clyde's appearances, Sherlock always finds a way for him to be useful. ![]()

IcePhoenix posted:I'm starting to miss Detective Bell and Captain Gregson. I know they want to focus more on Holmes and Watson but the interactions with the police were great and they've really scaled them back so far this season, I think. After seeing next week's episode preview, it seems like that ought to be fixed.

Why didn't I realize that the CEO guy was basically Steve Jobs, why.

This episode felt really dark and really intense, probably because there isn't a lot of levity between Watson and Holmes. So yes, good episode.

This episode just reminded me more than ever that this version of Sherlock Holmes really does suffer (mostly) real consequences for his actions when other iterations have it so that him being above the law ain't no thing. Season One, we definitely had aspects of how being a genius doesn't mean jack poo poo sometimes, but it really hit hard here.

Somehow, I've been able to enjoy Sherlock even if the fans are godawful, but it's great to love every iteration of the world's greatest detective. (I have a huge soft spot for Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, the movies were just pure fun and silliness). I'm just glad Lucy Liu and Miller play so well against each other. This show really wouldn't have worked if they weren't able to develop chemistry over the course of season one.

hollylolly posted:edit: Did anyone else notice that they very quickly changed Sherlock's wardrobe from band t-shirts under a jacket or other shirt to the very uptight button-up shirts buttoned all the way to the top? Is this supposed to show his change from being recently out of rehab to his current stage of recovery? Or did they just decide arbitrarily he needed to look more like Monk? It's a nice way to show his current stage of recovery if that really is the case. I loved his silly T-shirts, although maybe he wears them more at home now. But he still wears hideous socks since he can get away with those more often, it's great. ![]()

Annakie posted:The case of the week was interesting, but I really loved the subplot with Sherlock working with Randy. It really shows how far Sherlock has come that he worked so hard with Randy. I agree! Caught up with the episode tonight with a friend. We really enjoyed those bits. (The skull shall live for another day thank god.)

I really liked the case Joan was working on with the missing veteran. If there's one reason I stick with this show, it's for the character building moments, especially when you see Sherlock and her going out to distribute blankets; I wonder if it implies that he wants to help her find her dad again? It's a nice thought. ![]() Also, Sherlock mentioned that her stepdad was a novelist. I'm getting more and more convinced that stepdad Watson's first name is John.

I think this time it could be Olympics? Could be wrong though and maybe they fell behind on timely shooting of episodes. The first season was way worse at this though if I remember correctly.

I love the running joke throughout the show where Sherlock makes food for Joan, almost like they're offerings in order to placate her.

Also, an interesting thing to note that just occurred to me now, I think the show kinda raised a really interesting point in terms of the Holmes mythos where Sherlock and Watson are more connected to each other than Sherlock is with his own brother and Watson basically takes precedence over his own blood. I mean, in the original stories, Mycroft just wasn't there a lot and the same goes for a lot of other adaptions save maybe the BBC one. Though, after watching the recent episode, the Mycroft and Sherlock dynamic is way more ripe for conflict and way more interesting than the BBC one.

Not that it can top the current thread title, but "You still pregnant?" had me cracking up especially with Holmes' facial response.

Annakie posted:Yeah, completely agreed with everyone on Joan/Mycroft. I don't see a shred of chemistry there, I wish they'd kill that storyline and if Joan's going to have a love interest, bring in someone she's an actual match with. I like Mycroft as a character, but that whole scene was... not great. The more I think about Joan/Mycroft, the more I feel annoyed, especially since it almost overshadows and almost invalidates that really great scene where Joan just goes, "No!" on Mycroft near the beginning of the episode and how she says his dishonesty is not something that neither she or Sherlock can deal with in the long run. Lucy Liu knocked that scene out of the park. Season finale can at least toss the romance angle into the trash, give me that!
