xcheopis posted:Possibly I have low standards but I liked the moon explosion. Starfire the terrible is probably my favorite episode of the whole series so far, your standards aren't low at all. I'm frankly really shocked at how great TTGo turned out, because it probably makes me laugh out loud harder than most adult comedies. The whole staff deserves a pat on the back and a 6 season contract in my opinion.

I think it's actually scientifically impossible for a starfire centric episode to fail.

axleblaze posted:I actually didn't much care for it but I'm just a bitter Jew that at this point is programmed to hate anything that is mostly about how amazing Christmas is. It's just this is such a weird subversive show in many ways and this just kind of felt kind of like a typical Christmas special to me. It was weirder and still a TTG episode and all but still just seemed to be the same song and dance I've seen way too many times in my life. Honestly I don't see it, I mean yeah it was a christmas episode, but at the same time it also seemed to parody the parts of christmas that make it terrible. I mean one of the jokes was Robin being declared the christmas grouch and being punched in the face for saying anything negative about second christmas. Then the second christmas miracle is a coma. It was like the least heartwarming but most hilarious christmas ever, fueled entirely on greed and lies that ended in a psychotic rampage.

Whitenoise Poster posted:This episode is what happens when all the kids growing up drawing porn and writing creepy fanfic on DA and 4chan grow up and get to work on the show with their favorite characters. This is hyperbole. I can see how people could be made uncomfortable by the ep though. Especially like, Americans. But really I can't help but be underwhelmed having seen the ep after reading some of these comments. I was expecting something anime-tier or at least actually creepy or inappropriate. To anyone who hasn't seen the ep yet and is wondering what's up, the episode has a lot of jokes about Raven's legs. The most 'adult' or sexual this gets is when at one point, Beast Boy turns into a wolf and wolf whistles at her. Is this really enough to get all 'think of the children' over? I've seen worse in like, Bugs Bunny cartoons.

axleblaze posted:Yeah, it really wasn't that bad, it just felt a little weird seeing it and I still feel it's more of a comment on the creppy fan obsession with her legs than a genuine loving tribute. Honestly I don't even think it's a comment on the fans either. I thought it was just a joke about Ravens costume. In a way, I think this is just one of those things that is just ruined by being aware of the creepy internet people who do sexualize these characters, because while you're watching it you are kind of aware of that in the back of your head. It's like the way knowing what a furry is ruins the fun of Space Jam by making any scene with that female version of Bugs Bunny instantly uncomfortable.

TwoPair posted:Wow, Ducktales and Never Ending Story in one episode? My sides, they are split. This episode might be the best so far, although I find myself thinking that about almost every TTG episode that's come out. Starfire easily continues to be the best character, getting all the best jokes next to Cyborg. Who, in every other iteration of his character, is just boring as poo poo. It's a testament to the show that they managed to salvage him into something so funny. That and I'm surprised at how much they manage to cram into a ten minute episode, it's drat impressive that they manage to have pretty much every line be funny on top of that.
