I don't understand at all how repairing stuff works. Where are you supposed to find a bench?

I bought my first gun during an Ironman playthrough, got a scope and silencer off s body for it, was ready to start the next phase of my zone adventure and then stepped into an anomaly and died.

I got tired of losing characters in Anomaly ironman so I'm playing a non iron man run and having a great time. So far I've got a mosin nagant, a shotgun, and 0 idea how the crafting system works. I found my second artifact in the wild yesterday and was very proud even though I died twice to get it.
