Okay basically with this new version you can ignore all the individual parts replacement and collecting. What matters is the repair stuff - repair kits, oils, tape, glue. With that stuff you generally just repair your gear, and do the same ol' STALKER thing of repairing at a technician for critically damaged stuff. All the components like metals capacitors etc can be used to build items but unless you're playing on the most punishing difficulty it's not really going to make that big of a difference. Especially since to make stuff like a Veles you need to find a page with the recipe and have your tech's bench using expert tools. Snag med items and ammo and patches(to turn in for EZ money and rep for quests), those are your lightest stuff for how valuable they are.

Like even with a Veles out all the time I've literally found more non-junk artifacts in stashes than I have in anomalies. They're really sparse from my experience so far.

One thing I have noticed is STALKERs feed the anomalies a lot less. As in not at all. I assume this is just things aren't teeth grindingly annoying when dealing with companions and escorts etc. You and mutants are the only thing that will trigger (well, items too) and - more importantly - be damaged by anomalies. No more seeing some poor fool get spun around and mulched in a whirlygig.

I picked up the Cordon companion and while it's nice having backup the AI is.. fucky. To when it will shoot, how far they will chase, you have to micro them a bit sometimes. It would be a nightmare if all those anomalies hit them. What's funny is you will see messages on the comm net of STALKERs dying to anomalies off-map.

Anomaly update 2 just dropped today. https://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-anomaly/downloads/stalker-anomaly-150-update-2

Lots of fixes and stuff, looking good! Professional studios oftentimes don't put updates out this fast.

The tech guys who do the work are your best bet at getting kits like that. You might need to rank a bit in the faction/give them some tools first.

I first went there, started getting shot at by a gauss, and the other towers, said gently caress this and went back and got one of those .338 LM sniper rifles with a Saiga as a backup and made it in. Giving Hip the gauss was pretty funny on the exfil where she's just blasting scrubs with it.

Starting with a pistol and a prayer and getting an AR out of it and using that AR for the first 1/3rd or more of the game is one of the joys of STALKER, don't deprive yourself.

Just want to plug Call of The Zone again, which is a custom branch of CoC with a focus on dynamic features and storyline, made by Dr. X. It's the more arcade side rather than realism and grinding of Anomaly, and has a few sub mods now like arsenal overhaul, compatible with texture mods, making it a beefed up COC. It's my STALKER of choice these days.
https://www.moddb.com/mods/doctorx-call-of-the-zone

Started this as loner on veteran, love the early game of STALKER. One of the first stashes I found and looked at had a SPAS 12. <10 minutes in. Held off on using it till I did a bandit assasination in Dark Valley and made it past garbage and back to the rookie village again, with a sawn off and 74su. Before I even made it back another stash I found had a Veles in it.

I think the progression is a bit fast, and while the economy is good and tight and rough so far having the ability so early to pull artifacts seems like it will be a tad strong for basically doing nothing in game so far.

Still my jam but it was a tad odd to pull good gear so early randomly like that. Both stashes were in the Cordon. Maybe I just got real lucky.

Having similar feelings in CotZ. Also something odd I noticed was shotguns are hilariously overpowered. No lie exosuits drop way faster to shotgun buckshot than using like 5.45 AP.

Also found real good gear real quick. Not entirely sure what this version is going for except super sandbox. Might need to go back to Anomaly tbt.

Having Fanatic as a half companion early on by never going to the anomaly with him definitely helps in Anomaly. After getting back into it I have a hard time seeing what CotZ is trying to do. Even on hard it's EZ mode STALKER.

He means in Anomaly there are icons on the bottom, portraits, that show companion health and I did notice a star but ignored it. Maybe if they are attached because of quest?

They could also be 'leader' STALKERS like show up when minimap icons are available?

So it seems that you need to reach Expert skill level in CoC before you can regularly buy 9x39 ammo from non-Sid vendors for whatever reason. This is anecdotal of course, but at least now i can use my Groza and drop fuckers quickly.

Also i spent way too much time artifact hunting for a decent negative-rad artifact only to gun down a lovely bandit of all people and find a -4 rad with a bunch of + stats artifact on him. Such is life in the zone.

There is a mod to actually let you reach legendary rank because even if you killed every stalker on every map it would not give you enough.

I would also HIGHLY recommend the two soundscape mods for better gunfire, MUCH better distance gunfire, and mutant sounds. Makes the whole experience much richer.

I'm loving Anomaly but after a week I finally made it to Zaton, Skadovsk and Nimble... only to find the weapons he sells are worse than the ones I already have (even with Boomsticks & Sharpsticks).

:sigh:

The story quest in Radar to turn off the Brain Scorcher throws so many well-equipped Monolith guys at you that, if you survive, you end up with loads of high-tier gear.

There is a trader balance mod that I snagged, works out pretty good. Spreads out the variety.

anyone use addons for these?

There are a bunch of options in the menus for scaling on those features. Drop the rate for drain etc on this stuff. I'd deffo recommend looking through all the different settings.

I restarted my Anomaly playthrough, on Easy (since I'm still learning the new stuff) and as a Loner, and it certainly doesn't feel any less brutal. What does the change in difficulty do?

Also, for some reason while I was escorting a couple of stalkers for a mission to hunt mutants, on the way back some Loners were hostile to me. I didn't do anything to hurt them, and when I tried fighting back it said my reputation was damaged. I'm pretty sure they weren't bandits either. Any reason why that would happen?

Make sure the dynamic faction stuff is turned off it can cause weird issues like that in my personal experience.
