If you want to know more about real life meth manufacturing, use and how it's fought criminally, this Frontline special on it is well worth watching and does give you a lot of insight on Breaking Bad
http://video.pbs.org/video/1933783731/

Going into the topic of why purity matters. The short of it is that the more pure the meth is, the more addicting it becomes and meth use and the purity levels go hand in hand.

On the topic of Breaking Bad vs. The Wire. I think that it should be noted the differences between West coast and East coast settings makes. While I loved the writing and story of The Wire and how it encompassed Baltimore as a whole, I'm a west coaster, so there's a good amount that is just not ingrained into me about it.

Breaking Bad's Southwestern setting strikes a perfect chord with me. I'm really glad they decided ABQ instead of Riverside, Ca. The city and setting of wide open skies works so loving well with the show. Seeing those montages with wide skies, sometimes with clouds, other times without for miles and miles around really helped the show and ABQ became a character in it.

monster on a stick posted:

So Walt:
- hates Hank and has him killed (or so he says on the phone call, not true)
- hates Skyler and threatens to have her killed as well (again on the phone call, also not true)
- breaks in and forces Skyler to make breakfast for him (which is what he tells Skyler to tell the cops)
- gives Skyler a note saying where the bodies are buried so she can make a deal with the DEA and also give closure to Marie

Yes that makes a lot of sense. All of a sudden he's nice to the very people that he's supposed to be a monster to.

I think you're reading far into that phone call in how much he hates skyler. After all, he did just leave their daughter at a fire station five minutes after snapping the burner in half. He told her to tow the line, and for 7 months she has had nothing to give up. Like Saul said, within a year and a half in the case, they'll find that she did have her well being at risk and did the illegal activities under duress.

Sklyer has some bargaining chip with the coordinates. Especially after 7 months of it being an open case. Marie starting off the conversation with "Truce" just shows that she's not helping Sklyer by any means in her case. But Skyler also has the piece to the puzzle that can help answer the cops question on what exactly happened and makes some sense as to why the blue was still being produced while he was in New Hampshire and why he came back - Hell, she can even spill that the people Walt was going after killed Hank and Gomie. On the phone he really didn't say specifically that HE killed them. Just that they would never see him again and that he crossed Walt.

The loose end of Jesse, well, Marie saw and can collaborate that Jesse was working with Hank when he died. He, if ever just walked into a police station, could tell his story, while omitting poo poo that would clearly get him poo poo canned like Gale and what not.

I mean, if he believed in heaven and hell, he already knew he wasn't on God's side. Why would he ask for a favor?

quote:

“All the people that we’ve killed, Gale and the rest. If you believe that there’s a Hell, I don’t know if you’re into that, we’re already pretty much going there, right? But I’m not going to lie down till I get there.”

poo poo, the only person I could think of that I would be okay with seeing is Skinny Pete, since he did do time and that's how he got the in with Tuco. Gots to have, like, you know, that representation and all, yo. Besides, Jesse had to have learned about going to a criminal lawyer from someone and badger's introduction to him was made in his first episode.

I'll even be cool with Combo showing up. Would be interesting if there was a way to tie in Saul's off hand comment about occupational hazards and drug dealers getting shot is something that is known to happen.

Mike was also working for Gus, but maybe he wasn't needed full time before Gus broke off from the Cartel and became self sufficient after he built the super lab. That would leave Mike enough time to do PI/cleaner type of stuff for Saul.

I imagine that it wasn't about not having a full time gig, Gus would have still needed security and muscle before he broke off from the cartel. I would say it's probably more to do with having a hand a lot of sources of information. Mike's one that knows things and as Saul put it to Walt when looking for a hitman, is that guy.

Saying Mike worked for Saul is like saying that Ellsworth, the gun supplier worked for Walter.

Oh God, I just realized how funny/horrifying it would be if they did a "faces of meth"-style slow decay of Wendy over the length of the series.

I've been meaning to do a "faces of meth"-style thing for Walter. I mean, yeah, he didn't actually use it, but from start to finish of the show he went through a lot of changes.

If anyone wants to roll with that idea and make it their own, feel free.

New details about Better Call Saul; http://www.rollingstone.com/movies/news/vince-gilligan-reveals-better-call-saul-details-20131016

It'll be filmed in Albuquerque and will have an inverted amount of comedy to drama that Breaking Bad. Strange that Vince would want to do a cameo for the actors list. But hey, I'll take it.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that both FX and Netflix tried to out bid AMC for the show.

This is a pretty good Walt/series retrospective/tribute thing I found while bouncing around Youtube. It's kinda neat to see all these things with the whole show now finished.

Any other really good full series tributes or things like this that other people have found? I know a few have been posted, I think.

I dunno. I think Walt would have just stood there and let the spraying bullets take out his enemies as well as himself. poo poo, I'm sure that his plan was to just take out Jesse with the rest of the room till he went all The Searchers on him in seeing how hosed up he was.

His side of the story of what went down in the desert with Hank and Gomie's death as well as with Marie probably telling them about Jesse working to bring Walt down should be enough to help him out.

Though the interpretation was that he was long gone into the sunset. So none of that even matters.
