Does Nielsen get audited? Aren't they kind of a black box? What happened to free market capitalism? ![]()

Irish Joe posted:I'm not sure what your question is. Like all corporations, their financial reports are independently verified and available to the public. If you're talking about the accuracy of their ratings, you can be drat sure the networks double and triple check every number Nielsen gives them.

SHUPS 4 DETH posted:In surprising not surprising news, The Big Bang Theory just got a three season renewal, taking it through 2017 and S10. It's the #1 show in network so the grand gesture isn't exactly unexpected, but I can't remember a show getting this much of an extension since Always Sunny which is a much smaller commitment with much lower stakes.

Shakugan posted:There's no guarantee that it'd be picked up by another network though? I'll take a renewal over the (huge) risk of it not getting picked up by another network any day. It being more successful on another network might mean that its production values increase, but they've been doing really well with what they have anyway. I can see why you'd wish the show had been on AMC or Netflix to begin with, but wanting a show to be canceled in the hope that it would end up there is crazy (especially since there's no guarantee that a show that started with its third season on another network would actually thrive).

Aphrodite posted:Yeah, but that only proves the audience is more spread out. Unless you have the shares too. The 10th ranked show in 2012-13 was Grey's Anatomy where a 4.1 rating was an 11 share. It's possible I'm reading the numbers wrong, but it seems like a 64% drop in eyeballs only resulted in a 39% drop in share.

A little late to Glee chat, but I was a huge fan of the first half of the first season. When it came back after a long break, the show wasn't nearly as good. The second season was even worse, and I had to push myself to finish it over the summer. I had no interest in the show after, and it should have ended after 3 seasons when everyone finished high school, MAYBE giving it a 13 episode 4th season if you wanted to see what happened to them afterward. I'm glad that Glee went in the shitter.
