Mine worked right away, but I guess I was lucky.

If its any consolation, you're not missing out on much. The city itself is impressive in size, but also feels very generic. Most of the buildings lack character and are often populated with the same 3 or 4 world models including trash bags, chairs, and lawn gnomes of all things. Moreover, the rooms themselves lack defining qualities that would allow the player to recognize the type of building or room they are in. For example, an abandoned warehouse has the same interior design to that of most of the buildings inside the city. While there are a few eye-catching dystopian scenes while exploring the dense city blocks, it simply doesn't hold up when you get in close. I don't know if this is a typical experience for other games of this ilk, but I was a little disappointed with the lack of variety.

The sound design is actually pretty good. I enjoyed the ambient sounds while navigating the world, and the creatures also made interesting noises while stalking their victims. Unfortunately, the creatures (outside of the golem) all feel similar and use the same tactics to assault the player.

I understand that the point of the game is to survive and that should be "fun enough" on its own, but it simply isn't in the current state of the game. Players do not usually work together and most are content with holing up in a spot and waiting for victims to come their way, which ruins the exploration element of the game. If there were more "missions" in the game that required players to work together towards a common goal, this might help reduce the amount of PvP that is currently prevalent.

As with any alpha or beta, this is all subject to change and could get better over time. But is it worth 11 bucks today? I personally don't think so.

For those of you returning from earlier points in the beta they've added a shitload of graphical detail to the world. Lakeside is significantly more detailed now.

That being said the glider is poo poo and they still haven't added basic quality of life things like being able to edit your goddamn button config in-game instead of cunting around with the .ini files.

I've hung this game up on the hat stand until it either falls over dead or winds up with a lot more polish. Watching them implement terrible wastes of time like the gliders when theres a million more bugs to fix and basic things like complete menus missing from the game fills me with a sense of dread that the developers have illusions of grandeur for their game.

E: Also nether aggro radius is still hilariously hosed up. I spent like 3 minutes walking / jumping in circles around a screamer and it kinda just stared at me like "Yeah so what? gently caress off buddy" until I had the audacity to RUN three feet at which point it started screaming bloody murder and called a pack of about 15 crawlers over for me to meet my immediate doom.

Steam won't do a refund on it especially since it's early access and you're supposed to expect the game is not finished and possibly even not playable at times. The accounts not linking thing was an issue during the last steam sale as well and they had it fixed in a couple days. Send the nether team an email and they'll take a look into your account specifically.

I think it took my account 2 days to sync after I bought the game during the last sale.

I know I paid for early access but I don't think that's really an excuse when the issue is something like server capacity and that they put up on sale with whatever their current hardware can handle. I guess I'm not there personally to see what the issue truly is but it's a game and I guess I can wait. I was just excited to play this after getting burnt out on Dayz. But at this point I think I might nether play this game.

I got into a server once, played for about 10 minutes and got spat out. Just opening the server list, make the game spaz out for several minutes. Clicking on an available server, screen fades to black, then fades out back in the server list. It's an endless cycle. Opening the game itself takes several minutes. Took me forever to even sign up, because it kept coming back with "no response" and "please try again". What the gently caress is going on

I've been having a ton of fun with this so far, it's nice not fearing that stairs or door frames will spontaneously cause my legs to shatter. :v:

Overall though I wish there were some more reasons NOT to just kill everyone on sight, this is mostly a community issue and will never go away without things to actively dissuade/punish pvp (which would be an awful idea) it's unlikely but more cooperative efforts would be better in my opinion.

Also, killing a single nether for level 2 isn't challenging in the slightest but I really wish blocking was baseline. The first level is basically meaningless for me since it feels like such a non choice. Maybe I'm just bad though.

Is there an ETA on when they're adding more sections to the map? I've been sticking to mostly lowpop (like 10-15 player) servers since people camping every spot of interest on the full ones got old kinda fast, but with a bigger map it'd be less annoying.

I do think a PVE subset of servers that are completely separate from the maingame would be...Interesting, could rake in the money from people who think the game looks cool but are turned off by the pvp deathmatch, just increase the amount of nether by a large margin or something. I don't think it'd be necessarily good but I think it'd be interesting to see what kind of culture would emerge from that kind of "safe" server type.

Yeah I guess the OP should probably have a warning about this game that these guys aren't exactly in the realm of competent developers that have their poo poo together.

This game is broken and buggy and the steam link doesn't work well. Their downloader is poo poo and their website sucks too. The forums are a cesspool when 1/2 the game is completely unfinished and useful and well thought out feedback is ignored.

All that being said when it works it's fun for a bit.

Nobody really plays on a specific server. The best strategy is to hop from low pop server to low pop server nabbing all the loot you can while you stash it in your global inventory, then log off after your global is full because you'll just die and lose it all anyway.

The real issue in regards to PvP is the fact that every death is a complete character wipe.

I don't mind losing all my items and whatnot, thats why I have backups in my GI, but I really can't be assed to re-grind 30 levels of player XP just to get sniped off the next rooftop because this game has no incentive to do anything other than murder all other players on sight.

They need to do something like one death = lose 3 or 5 character levels, not 30. Simply because there is no way to level up in this game that doesn't involve making enough noise to instantly cause another player to come just shoot you after you've conveniently killed all the nether for them.

You bought an early access title. It's a step above backing a kickstarter.

What is the game like to play right now?
When you buy an Early Access game, you should consider what the game is like to play right now. Look at the screenshots and videos to see what the game looks like in its current state. There are a lot of ways a game can go as it develops over time, so if you aren't excited to play the game in its current state, then hold off and wait until the next update--it shouldn't be far off.

I felt that since it's server load issue and not one with the actual game client that doesn't fall under it. They (knew?) a sale was coming so why didn't they prepare? I guess they didn't think how popular their game might be considering it wasn't very big before the sale. But It doesn't really matter because arguing about isn't going to fix anything.

I don't blame you for feel screwed really but it's what you're signing up for when you buy a game in a pre-release stage, you're agreeing to beta test the game and in exchange you're getting it for less than it'll be worth when it's done.

I don't like the model personally and I don't really buy games in alpha or beta unless word of mouth confirms they're more or less done at that point, but I can understand what that other poster said in that it fills a middle ground between kickstarter and buying a game release.

Patch Notes

Features in the Patch:

• Motorcycle/Dirt Bike- There are motorcycles that spawn in the world. This is very much in a "early access" state- if you are carrying gear you don’t want to lose, it is recommended you deposit the gear in the global inventory before riding.
Known issues:
• There is some network rubberbanding that causes bike to appear to hiccup
• If bike is laying down, press E to start flipping it over, and E again when it is upright
• FRAPS may have perf issues while riding motorcycle.

• Group System- Group chat, group members show up on map, easily identifiable nametags

Group system overview/instructions:
• Access the group screen from the main menu bar.
• Invite people to your group by clicking the plus icon next to their name in the right most column.
• Invites appear in "invites" window. You can accept or ignore them. Accepting an invite, while your currently in a different group will cause you to leave that group.
• You can send chat messages to only your group members by beginning your message with /group.
• You can return to global chat by typing /say.
• Group member's name tags always appear over their heads.
• Group member's locations can be seen in the map screen.
• Group system chat is enabled with /group [message]
• To switch back to global chat type /say [message]

• Escort Mission- new objective where you have to bring a heavy box with a glowing beacon to shopkeepers in Safezones. The box attracts Nether, and you can’t use weapons while holding the box, so 'Group' up with other players to successfully complete the objective. Everyone in your 'Group' will receive the escort reward.
•Escort items will display where to take them when you go to pick them up
- They will also display where to take them in the item details in inventory
- To drop escort items you need to go into inventory and drop the escort item from there

• New Cosmetic Gear in the marketplace- Russian Hat, Motocross Helmet, Ski mask (balaclava), Ballcap, Face Bandana, Half Mask, Spray Mask

Notable Fixes:

• Disabled console log off
• Stamina drains on jumps, to discourage sprint-jump bunny hopping (note jump does not require stamina to use)
• Fixed bugs with Character screen not showing proper items
• Made it so nametags for group members look different and appear more readily.
• Fixed bug with map objective info not appearing correctly online.
• Hid lock and quest icons for quickslot item icons.
• Adjusted red dot sight to be more clear and smaller
• Fixed issues with Glider not showing up on other players
• Added enemies to subways
• Various Map fixes
• Various Nether bomb fixes
• Fixed stat screen interface issues
• Fix for throwing grenades in Safezones
• Adjusted ground textures, wear patterns on ground
• Fixed the courier package inventory icon to match the mesh
• Added Safezone protection timer with a random variable between 10-15 seconds

They are loving awful. I've no idea why they are throwing dev time at something no one wanted. It stinks of "HEY GUYZ I'VE THIS AWESOME IDEA I WAS WATCHING TERMINATOR 2 AND...."

The grouping system is a welcome change, but the none dynamic nature of the huge name tag above your teammates can/will get you killed due to missing a bit of movement on a rooftop. The range also needs extending, I'm still receiving friendly fire from my friends.

The SZ protection timer is welcome and the extension of the WTO SZ to the ground floor. I've no why they didn't do the same to RTO. I very rarely will head into a SZ and never alone.

That said, my FPS improved with this patch and I'm finding combat a lot more fluid. Overall I'm happy with the update, but I'm never getting on a loving dirt bike.

Key things that I want in the next patch :

Custom key bindings
Extra character slots
Someway to obtain more GI slots
More variety on loot drops (and debug them all plz!)
More weapons or custom weapons.
A skill tree re-juggle. No one in their right minds takes anything but Guns, Stamina and Strength.

I'm still having a lot of fun with the game. I have intense gun fights with 3+ vs 3+ players very regularly. Had a huge holdout session east of Bennent Park last night, was such a rush.

It's a game where you really get what you put in. Every kind of play style is warranted and you will get rewards equal to the effort. Your first few hours on the game will be utterly frustrating, you need friends and you need people you can trust. Once you have that in place it's unmatched right now.

:siren: Another big update! :siren:

There's another character wipe, which shouldn't be surprising, factions to join, and a crafting system that removes powerful gun spawns. I haven't actually played with the new update yet, so impressions are solely based on what they're dishing out here until later tonight.

Patch Notes
February Update #1 & Character Wipe/Tribe Pledge
Servers will experience downtime from approximately 10 AM CST - 11 AM for the update and character wipe. Here is what you can look forward to once we get back online! First an announcement and then features in the update!

Tribes:
Today we are really excited to announce "TRIBES", a new feature that allows our players to join one of 16 unique tribes and battle each other in a struggle for territory. By joining a Tribe, players will be rewarded with stronger offensive and defensive skills, larger cash and loot drops, extra space to store inventory items, and more. Tribes will fight for control of the city’s strategic vantage points, which will provide the controlling tribe greater power over enemy movements, the ability to affect market prices and alter mission objectives in their favor.

Name the Tribes - Help us name the 16 tribes! Discuss and offer tribe names at this thread: https://forums.playnether.com/showthread.php?7522-Vote-3-TRIBE-NAMES-First-Part-of-Voting!&p=70903#post70903

Join a Tribe
Players that pledge to joining a Tribe before February 15th will earn special rewards, which include a Tribe outfit (worth five Gold) and no Tribe initiation when the feature is available at the end of the month. So head to the Safe Zone to pledge to the tribesman and prepare for Tribal warfare!
*Wait, so the factions are going to add hazing in the future?

Character Wipe
After warning for the last couple of patches, we are now resetting all characters and wiping stats. This is needed to fix previous exploits and bugs that have occurred during our early access. Game play should now become more balanced and the overall experience will be improved. All character inventory has been removed. All the gold players have purchased has been returned along with any gold included in the Believer and Chosen packages.

Features in the Update:
Crafting- Go to the Weaponsmith in the Safe Zone and bring components of weapons and he will craft you a new weapon! The 'recipes' for different guns are revealed as you find them. Check out the new makeshift "Can Gun" made from found parts and shotgun shell.
Nether Hunters- These cult members will give you rewards for bringing them Nether body parts that are dropped from killing creatures.
Secret: There might be a secret feature....

Notable Fixes:
· Most powerful guns will no longer spawn in the world and will need to be crafted
· Sidearm and weak gun spawn rates significantly reduced *Wait what?
· Removed some exploitable console commands and ini settings
· Various inventory UI fixes
· Gun damage on certain weapons will now falloff at distance so that you can’t “snipe” with a pistol *This seems to be the go-to fix for aimbotting.
· Fixed an issue where the safezone message sometimes wasn’t there
· Sunny days are now more likely than foggy days
· Enemies will now drop loot more consistently independently of loot spawned on the map
· Reduced sprint stamina drain and increased stamina recovery rate, and fixed some bugs with stamina drain while jumping
· Various AI and item spawn balance tweaks
· Various world collision fixes
· Various Z-Fighting, seams in world, and floating objects fixed

I think the factions thing has the potential to be interesting, or very terrible. But it seems like a terrible idea to have 16 factions with the current map size, especially if the territory fights are already in there. But it might be nice for when you're soloing, since you might run into faction members when out and about and not have to kill everyone you meet, while having more of a reason to kill everyone else you meet. Plus the factions give us goons a better way to group up if we all just join the same one.

The crafting thing could also change the game a bit. On the one hand it's nice that they removed the better weapons from spawns, so people can't just farm them in low-pop servers and bust into high-pop one guns blazing. They can still farm the parts, depending on the complexity of the gun recipes, but they're forced to go into safezones to actually obtain the guns. Of course, much like the courier deliveries, people could just wait at a safezone, kill the people coming in with parts, and then use them to make the gun without having to do the legwork. I know it's probably too complex for the small team, but it would be neat if they added something like paying guard duty jobs in the safezones, where you get payed to defend a certain area around the safezone for x minutes, maybe with a bonus for players who've attacked another player or Nether you kill during that time.

Also, I like the trend of them adding more ways to make money from the map itself, like the Nether body parts thing. It makes it feel a bit more like a proper MMO, only the grind is optional and you can just murder someone to skip some of it.

EDIT: Oh, also people who had guest passes to give out with the game have gotten them renewed, so you can give them out once again.
