That's wild. It's like naming a movie "Jack: Peter" and not having someone called Jack in the movie at all

Nonesuch Records (no, me either) have put the score/soundtrack for Luca Guadagnino's After the Hunt up on YouTube - looks like there's only five tracks written by Trent and Atticus, which sound pretty stripped back compared to eg Tron: Ares, but still has a few of the TR/AR touches.

It's just I don't think I've heard of them before, and they're releasing it rather than something like Sony Records.

I had fun with Ares. Sleepwalkers was correct in saying that if you liked Legacy you'll like this. Same flaws, same strengths. I'd say the soundtrack carries even more of the weight in making it an enjoyable experience here, and I think the movie is made a little more deliberately with that goal. Some of the visual transitions that accompanied shifts in sound were really, really cool. I legitimately it would be significantly improved by removing the dialogue and making no other changes. The plot is basic enough that removing the absolute garbage that comes out of every character's mouth and letting the story just get told through vibes and visuals would emphasize what it does well and mitigate what it does poorly. The theater was like a third full though, so sorry about your franchise Disney. The Legacy sequel bait at the end was particularly sad with that in mind.

they hosed up the tron universe by denying that Monolith's Tron 2.0 is canon. NIN is the redemption arc for the universe: we're no longer supposed to care at all about the plot, the characters, or the visuals. But hey the soundtrack is absolutely banging and available on limited release red vinyl.

The NIN web store blows. My poster still hasn't shipped and they just cancelled my shirt order I put in like two months ago saying they're sold out even though both shirts are still available on the site in the size I ordered I tried giving you money, Trent Guess you don't need it.

Looks like Trent is leaking poo poo again... In this case it's two different arrangements of a single disc edition of The Fragile shortly before Bob Ezrin stepped in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0dEjNOj5Jw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRvx3ni5ak0

Gertrude Perkins posted:OooooooooooooooooooOOOOooooooooooh. Some big differences on some tracks, and this ordering really changes the flow of things. You mentioned Bob Ezrin - what was the timeline of the album's production? Full on recording production didn't really start until 1998. Then after producing more material than knowing what to do with it, Bob stepped in late 98-early 99 for assistance on final arrangement and tweaks. So these discs are most likely from around mid-1998.

I think he's shown those tracklists before, or similar others, I know the album went through a ton of iterations, and every time I just have to know more- mostly how late in the game was We're In This Together added? That's like the Nine Inch Nails song for me, and it's crazy how we coulda easily had a Fragile that didn't have it.

Apparently The Fragile has disappeared from Spotify? I don't use it so can't confirm but I've read about artists starting to pull music from the service. Comments say these were uploaded shortly after the album was pulled. There's a great interview where Bob Ezrin talks about being brought in to sequence The Fragile at the last minute iirc, and Trent and others still recording stuff despite there being a huge amount of material already. I think it was only weeks before the album had to be turned in? Listening now and La Mer followed by Into The Void is perfect.

Commie Lasorda posted:Looks like Trent is leaking poo poo again... Having listened to both of these mixes, my conclusions are as follows: 1. There's some really cool transitions that we could have had, La Mer>Into the Void being the most notable. 2. Bob Ezrin basically saved The Fragile, because boy do these just feel like someone hit random on their player of choice compared to the sequencing of the final product.

NuclearPotato posted:Bob Ezrin basically saved The Fragile, because boy do these just feel like someone hit random on their player of choice compared to the sequencing of the final product. Yeah I agree. It's interesting to have heard these (looks like they're private now) but I don't think the album would be revered if it was released in either way. The final sequencing is still a bit iffy imo (the final four tracks of the left disc has always been awkward/bizarre to me) but hearing these really highlights how important sequencing and flow is to an album.

i completely agree but that la mer -> into the void transition from the leaks was slick though

There's actually some debate about whether these are actually real. The gist of it is that some people think AI fuckery was used and the audio was compressed to poo poo to hide any abnormalities. I think one person said they ripped the YouTube audio and looked at the waveform and there's a hard cutoff at like 7khz.
