That said, the effects during Came Back Haunted were super goddamn cool. Whenever they sang "came back haunted", the background would flash bright red and there would be white spotlights on each band member. It actually made them look like black-and-white ghostly figures. A really impressive optical illusion.

That bit was exactly like the video for Came Back Haunted; it sounds like you haven't seen it.

I was a bit confused by Trent's statement there too, I just assumed he would be doing a different setlist for Calgary and this was the last time we'd see the light show for some of the songs. He did say "this particular show" so that's what I took it to mean.

If you asked me what the worst song NIN ever released was, I'd have to think long and hard about whether the answer is 'Everything', or that 14 minute thing that's supposed to be 'Me, I'm Not' on Year Zero Remixed.

I’m so loving jealous. I’d kill to witness The Background World live. I hope I get to one day. Or at least see them play it on a live stream or something. I’d be super interested to see how they pull that one off live. Do they just keep turning distortion/fuzz/bitcrush pedals up higher and higher until it sounds unrecognizable at the end?

It just ends where you think it would.

I think the craziest moment of that ARG was when a website went up offering Capital G as a free download, which confused everybody because the album was already out - but that version on the website turned out to be one with an inverted waveform, and stacking it against the audio file for the song from the actual album eliminated all the noise except a creepy voice saying the name of a new website. I wanna say it was... Red Horse Vector?

That might be true, but it is 100% true that if you convert the album version of The Great Destroyer at about 2:23 from stereo to mono, you can hear someone say Red Horse Vector.

When MVH came out it was back when most file hosters were horribly limited so I uploaded the mp3 to my personal website so people could access it.
For some reason, the link to the song on my site was the one that got submitted to Digg and it hit the top of the site. I had people for weeks e-mailing me and going through my files and trying to guess my password as my stupid personal website MUST have been part of the ARG.

Good times.

Didn't Trent or someone literally come out and say please stop bothering the owner of https://www.myviolentheart.com as they had nothing to do with the ARG? Did they do the same for you? Link's dead now looks like but it used to be someone's personal webpage.

Man these are getting trashed on iTunes. Probably the worst review was 'Ministry and Stabbing Westward put out albums recently, go listen to those' Ouch.

Stabbing Westward was my gateway drug into NIN, and, uh, I think I'm going to be listening to the three new Stabbing Westward songs more than Ghosts V and VI. The new Ghosts are still good! What I'm trying to say is thanks for telling me there's new Stabbing Westward out there and maybe check it out too? It's good!

Year Zero is the greatest album ever, so I'm really enjoying ixi's dive into it. One of the reasons I love NIN is that there's no bottom to how deep you can dig into a song. They're so complex! There's always some layer you've never consciously heard or appreciated before. That said, I still never would have expected how many loving carnival tracks were buried deep in Year Zero songs. I'd like to see her do "This is a Trent Reznor Song" because I keep getting reminded of a lyric in that song, which was "what the hell was that?"

Oh God dammit I've been to Thingvellir but didn't know about that waterfall. I must have been 200m from that point.
