Wings

Was Shark clear who I was backup for?

Wings is in the warehouse, completely invisible, and floating maybe twelve feet off the ground. Shark had sent him out here, almost no details, to "find a team" and "watch them". Whatever, Shark had paid his rent more than once, so how angry could Hwan really be? He was just annoyed that he might miss that movie with Khun.

He had brought forth four air spirits, and commanded them to watch the four corners of the warehouse, and he waited in the middle himself. He had a commlink in one hand and was busy pouring most of his concentration through the small, gold-and-silver ring on his other hand, keeping the spells up and his eyes open.

I'm bringing in four Force 2 Air Spirits, buying 4 hits on each. They resist: 1, 0, 1, 2. I buy off the Drains (11DP resist). They owe me 3, 4, 3, and 2 favors. I use one of each favor to "watch the outside corner of the warehouse and let me know if you see anyone."

Invisibility, Force 4 12d6t5 3; Resisting Drain (3): 11d6t5 3
The first roll says Force 8, but after consulting the rules I've conclude that was a drat chump move to try and I'd really like to not take a lot of stun damage before things start.

Levitation, Force 6 10d6t5 0 No glitch, though!; Resisting Drain (4): 2 So much for no stun damage! :v:
I'm going to buy a Levitation at Force 4, threshold 1 since Wings is <200KG. I can buy off two drain with my 9 resistance. I'll float in the middle of the warehouse, probably four meters up.

The four spirits' perceptions (NE, NW, SE, SW corners) 1,1,3,0 Spirit four isn't very bright, and managed to critical glitch its perception.
Looking out for things!: 1
Sustaining the invisibility and levitation make me incapable of focusing hard enough to actually hide, I guess. My roll history is a bit of a mess because I made a lot of rolls (looking out, hiding, and the levitation drain) without accounting for the -2/-4DP from sustaining the spells; I rerolled them all and only included the correct ones in my post. I *hope* that's okay. It won't happen again, I just got all excited about my first post.

Edit: After reading the summoning rules more closely, it's unclear how many spirits I may have summoned at once. The rules say I can only summon one at a time, so I guess that should be taken to mean "You may only have one summoned, unbound spirit at a time." If that's the case, I'll just summon one Power 2 spirit and tell it to walk around the warehouse outside and let me know if it sees anyone approaching, and I guess just use the first roll from each of my 4-spirit-block rolls.

Wings is slowly floating behind Shark, maybe a foot off the ground, trying to stay out of the line of fire in case things go bad. He wasn't sure what Shark was playing at, or what he had stepped into, but hopefully it wouldn't end in a fiasco. Did Wings see Shark beat Kim and Blitz?

Wings watches the scene unfold, trying to piece everything together. He saw the news about the explosion at the SK building, but it was reported as an accident, right? The articles had been vague, anyway, but he was starting to suspect these people in front of him were responsible. Shadowrunners, and they looked more professional than most groups he had worked with. When the C4 was brought up, Hwan started to get nervous: surely Shark wouldn't kill them all, would he? Then again...

He moved closer to the entire meeting, remaining invisible and airborne, trying to better hear everything without giving himself away. Shark was offering these people a pretty big favor, as far as he knew, and he still wasn't sure what, exactly, he was doing here.

I literally can't make a stealth check. my Intuition is 4 and I have no ranks in Stealth, so my 3DP is eaten by the -4DP for levitating and being invisible. That said, anyone trying to see me has to resist my Invisibility spell with INT + LOG vs 3 (my hits during casting). Or they can smell me / hear me breathing. But I'm flying, so presumably my movement isn't making sounds.

His commlink suddenly active, Wings did what he was asked. He dropped his spells, falling the last foot to the floor as he appeared about two feet from Shark. He was just a kid, no older than 19, wearing a huge armored jacket. He answered Shark in Korean, tucking his commlink away. "Right here, boss. What you need?"

Wings was losing his poo poo, watching Mr. Kim die like that, but he knew he had to keep it together in front of Shark. Bul has told him that much: "You seem weak in front of him, he's liable to eat you." She had laughed when she said it, but Hwan didn't find it too funny at the moment.

When the job was explained, he nodded. "Sure, no problem. Assuming these jotbabs are really as good as they seem to think. See you in a couple of days, then?"

Just a nod in response, and then Hwan walked over to stand by the 'new hires'. Looking to their seeming negotiator, he said, "So, where the rest of you hiding? I know the warehouse, I'll take you over there. Better to get out of sight sooner rather than later."

Almost as an after-thought, he motioned to Mr. Kim's mostly-headless body without ever actually looking in its direction. "You still want him?"

By the way, starting cash roll! 3d6x60 = 540. After planning, Wings is going to catch that movie with Khun and try to pick up 500 nuyen of reagents (25 drams) from her, if she has 'em. Then he'll probably do some binding at his apartment, which doubles as his Magical Lodge. (Though oddly the rules don't require magical lodges at all in Bindings, even though they're used in Rituals and Artificing.) I'm going to spend the night trying to binding some spirits. I'll wait until post-planning to roll up the bindings, though.

At Hwan's Apartment

Hwan got home from the movie and set to work, lighting incense and focusing on the thin material separating the physical world from the spirit world. He reflected on the legends his mother told him as a child, calming his mind and focusing on bringing forth a spirit. Bul hovered nearby the whole time, swishing and swaying in the incense smoke as she critiqued his preparation. After maybe a half-hour, Hwan reached out, calling forth a spirit. "Balam-ui jeongsin-eun , naa ! I e chulseog , hwan i sang-u , eunju ui adeul u , seoul ui widaehan mudang eul bulleossda."

Summong a Force 3 Air Spirit: 16dp => 4 hits (Limit = 3), Spirit Summoning Resist: 1 Two services!, Drain Resist (2): 11DP => 2

The wind blew and flowed through his small apartment, and finally the spirit appeared before him, a disturbance in the heavy, scented smoke. <You summoned me?> The voice was just in his head, and he was already prepared for the next part: tossing a handful of rice at the spirit, he pulled on his mother's old, wooden mask and began the slow dance around it, casting more rice. And then he cast river stones and beach sand and opened a jar of air from the summit of Eungbongsan, and still he danced. For three hours, he carried on the gut, tying his own spirit to the one before him.

Binding attempt: 11d6t5 vs 6d6t5: 1 Net Hit; Drain Resist (6): 7!

As the ritual concluded, Hwan struck a drum and then sat back on his twin bed, sweating. He pulled the mask away and looked over the sprit before him. Hwan could feel it: the ritual had bound the thing to his will, at least for the time being. With a wave of dismissal, he laid back on his bed, content to sleep away the night.

"poo poo, I had my way about it, we'd get a pilot and an Ares Dragon and just take the truck right off the ground. No need to get mixed up with the Red Sams if we can avoid it. For that matter, we could probably lay down some mines or something, just strong enough to flip the trucks we aren't after? I might be able to get a spirit to do it, but that's not a sure thing. I'll ask him for the rocket launchers, but that sounds an awful lot like the 'ambush', and, uh, Rigged(That's your name, right?) made a pretty good point about that being a terrible idea."

Hwan lit a cigarette, looking over the weapons and vehicles already in the safe house. "Any of you know a rigger that'd take this job? We split the payment seven ways, we're only out 6,000 nuyen each and I'd rather have a wheelman than some extra cash. And maybe they won't shoot at the truck itself. "Actually, if we kill off the electronics, I can probably get a spirit to push the vehicle out of dodge if we can get it into neutral. It won't be pretty, but it will work long enough to get us down the road. A wrecker would be good either way, though, to shove poo poo out of the way. The charges aren't a bad idea, but maybe a flip, but we gotta be carefult not a vaporization of the lead and chase vehicles. Even so, this sounds more and more like 'ambush' than 'theft'.

I like the boat idea more: it'll be wetwork, but it's easy to confuse the crew of a boat. Plenty of places to hide, too. I'll try to find out what Shark knows about that. If we can get a boat or chopper and an EMP, we can pinch the boat's power, kill the crew, grab the cargo, and vanish. Maybe even sink the boat, make it look like a corporate search-and-destroy."

Okay, I think we should get Capstick's buddy's boat, hit the Renraku boat, maybe with an EMP, and then sail the cargo in. That's a lot of weight, but either we can tugboat it or chain it up underwater and drag it along at to reduce the weight. It's about the 2 cubic meters, it's about 2000kg less weight in the water. We drag it behind us, wrench it up, put it in the back of the Bulldog, and drive it to the drop-off. Probably dock in an off port or somewhere we don't have to deal with Port Authority. If we can get radio silence and sink the ship, it will take them a while to know what was taken.

Questions:
1. Can Eddy's boat carry the cargo?
2. Does Shark know the security of the boat?
3. What kind of Renraku sattelite coverage can we expect on the boat and will a thunderstorm take care of it? If so, can I buy a Weather Control ritual?

That's way in the middle of "fast response zone". What about 36.250628, 127.853854? Wings has heard there was a pretty serious insect spirit infestation there in 2060, so nobody ever really stops there any more.

The green is -1 range for sniper rifles, the red is -1 range for assault rifles. My barriers are ForceX2 wide, at drain F-1, so if I make one big enough to cover the whole road, which is ~18m across, I'm going to deal with 9P (or 8S if I make it 16m, which is probably enough). If I only get the lanes going the same direction, that will be much safer. We've still got a serious problem to address: how do we stop the cargo truck? They've been instructed not to stop for anything, so even if we destroy the lead and chase vehicles, we're going to have to hack the cargo truck or something.

Also, should I grab a water spirit and brew up a storm for the hit?

I'm going to try to throw up a barrier hard enough to bring the chase truck to a dead stop/crash and then lay into the lead truck with my Yamaha, probably just suppression, invisible the whole time. I'm leaving the cargo truck to everyone else, because I'm not about to tell Shark I'm the reason it got blown up/crashed/cratered/smashed/lit on fire.

We could fly you over it, drop you on top with Levitate, but there's a chance I'm going to nearly pass out from the physical barrier to stop the chase truck. I think any illusions we use might tip them off or make them jumpy, so if it's a distraction it should be subtle or go off while we're hitting them.

Based on lots of IRC discussion, I think the plan right now is:

1. We head over and get some good sniper spots in place, set up quick exits, and lay down some IEDs in the road.
2. I grab a water spirit and brew up a big-rear end storm for visibility and funs.
3. Multi-part plan:
3.a. When the caravan comes, I physical barrier the following car(s) into a wall, hoping for crashes and wreckage.
3.b. Capstick and Melody jump/fly onto the cargo truck, get into the cab, and assume control as quickly as possible.
3.c. Rigged Deck tries to brick / exploit any anything with a signature, especially the riggers. Grabbing a few rotodrones for our side will be A+ magical.
3.d. Mr. Clean starts blowing up IEDs in such a way as to not destroy the cargo truck but hopefully make everything else go boom.
3.e. Mad Dog hits tires, whatever else, and Wings will join in with auto-fire at anything that isn't the cargo.
4. Melody and Capstick bolt with the truck, driving up through rural Korea while the rest of us pile (very quickly) into the eurocar and mirages and pursue the truck, shooting at and otherwise attempting to vaporize anything that moves.
5. (Maybe!) We stop somewhere maybe 20 minutes away, cut open the cargo truck, move the cargo onto our Bulldog, and vanish into the night. This will make for a cleaner getaway, but may be problematic because of weight. Otherwise the moment we get a bit of distance, we should get Rigged on the truck to wipe the entire thing with a tag eraser, Wings on it with Improved Invisibility, and Blitz (maybe with others) heading in a different direction with a Trid version of the truck.

Again, this is the sketch I've gotten from reading/talking in IRC, so it's possible I've missed things..

Wings showed up with everyone else, riding in their Eurocar, and spent most of the ride fiddling with the Raiden's smartgun system, getting it synced with his contacts. Aside from the custom body armor, the gecko-tape, and the gun, he hadn't brought much else: maybe 50 drams of reagent and his little ring that pushed his magic, but the only other things that came with him were four packs of Esse cigarettes and Bul.

A few hours before the ambush, Wings drew up a water spirit Force 4 Water Spirit to brew them up a storm, chain smoking the whole time. He pulled the spirit forth naturally, and spoke with it in a strange dialect of Korean, Bul hovering over his shoulder the whole time. She liked it out here, in the nice clean air of the city, and he couldn't blame her: it really was more pleasant.

He wondered if anyone else can see her as he coerces the spirit into his first task. Over the next hour and a half the sky fills with clouds and the rain starts pouring everywhere. Wings checks the Yamaha over, cramming a massive magazine full of StickNShock in it, and straps it to the gyro harness he was wearing over the custom-made armor Shark provided. Next he said a few words of Melody and tossed a handful of salt at her, lofting her into the air. His mind buzzed softly from the exertion, but he left her floating there, above the road and heavily armed. The magic set up, Wings moved to the side of the road and ducked into some bushes, trying to get his body out of the line of fire. He stubbed out his cigarette and said, "I'm going to try to get eyes on this convoy. See you all in a while."

Clipping the helmet and respirator into place, he pulled himself out of his body and flew.

Seeing the strange signatures, Wings flew back to the ambush site, landing in his body and immediately pulling Melody out of the air, dismissing the levitation. "Whatever's on that truck, it doesn't have an escort. It's four shells of humans, with little enough essence that it seems like they're robots more than men. And there was something else, bright and loud and scary. Don't gently caress With It scary. So if we're going, we better go correct. Good thing I have this StickNShock."

After hearing the rest of the situation, Wings climbed into the back of their Bulldog and laid back down. "Look, I'm going to go buzz the van heading toward us form Seoul, see what I can see there. Keep my body alive and in the right place, yeah?"
