So apparently there was a different version of the pilot with a literal last minute twist that was cut for broadcast.

What? Do you know what the twist was?

I'm already worried that Fox is possibly messing with the episode order so that's another weird thing to add to it. I'll try not to feel too paranoid though, as long as the show's enjoyable.

If I had to guess, I'd say Lady Detective (not his boss, the younger one) is evil, working with the InSyndicate, or something like that.

invisible or nonexistent, and should be treated as such
Been looking forward to this one, and I'm liking the show so far. That was a lot of stuff that happened but it did a good job of setting up the situation.

I'm having a hard time with the actress that plays the lady detective, I can barely understand her when she talks. I can't tell if she's talking too fast or just badly but it's irritating.

Otherwise I love the casting, I really like Lili Taylor Micheal Ealy is really shining in this role. I'll be tuning in tomorrow night. I hope the show keeps up this level of energy, was that preview all for one episode?

I ended up catching this, even though I didn't intend to, and I have to admit, It was pretty good. Was I imagining things or was there a heavy Deus Ex vibe to the music last? I swear one song sounded eerily similar to the Sarif Industries theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFxwE8aty1c.

Decent start, I'm down to continue watching. Urban was his usually scowly self, also appreciated the Blade Runner-esque atmosphere at times.

So far it's not bad but it's a bit different from what I expected. It's really a lot like an 80s show throwback really, just high concept "wunza cop wunza android". They really didn't make much of an attempt to make Dorian non-human so there's not a lot of distance to getting the audience or the main character to empathize and accept him. By the end of the episode he's pretty much warmed up to him so even they seem to think they're not interested in keeping up the android racism or some such topics.

So instead they just rush ahead and make him nigh indistinguishable from humans at the outset and resolve that whole problem and get to case of the week cop and his android buddy get in adventures. I really don't have any fear that they could slip an episode 5 in as tomorrow's episode because I don't think it'll matter.

I think I would have enjoyed that arc myself because it's been decades since Data was on television screens and seeing what the Fring-y people would do with that could be compelling and novel. I'll wait for a few episodes to see what they want to do. Who knows, maybe an uncomplicated 80s show might be a nice change of pace?

Could they try any harder to hint that Dorian is actually more then a old model robot? "His file was redacted"? Come on that is the most stereotypical ominous hint in the book.

I really, really liked the pilot. I can see where most of the complaints are coming from, but for me (at least for now) Urban + Ealy + blade runner future is enough. Just a touch of Fringe weirdness with the poison gas was like a cherry on top. Some random thoughts:

I like that the police chief/captain isn't some by-the-book Tough But Caring Superior but seems to legitimately sympathize with John. Similarly, I like that Minka Kelly isn't just immediately some kind of damzel-in-distress :swoon:~love interest~:swoon:. I mean, she'll obviously be at some point (hell, probably even starting in episode 2) but I like that they at least established her as a seemingly competent officer first and had John mostly ignore her the entire episode.

Still a bit cautious about some aspects of the show, but am totally on board for now and am glad that there might be a decent Sci-Fi show on the air. Hopefully the ratings are there, because I can't imagine that that cast and those special effects are cheap.

Wasn't expecting much, but I thought it was a well done pilot. I'm mainly glad they solved the mystery of why the opening mission went bad right away. I did not want to watch the continued angst and conspiracy plot that could have resulted. Now, they did cram in a conspiracy plot, but I guess you can't make a sci-fi show with our one these days.

I'm really divided after the pilot. Karl Urban and his robot buddy were both good. The tech guy and Dr. Candle were both very good. The story was just... Ok... But what really pulled me out of it, as with most futuristic tv, is the Ford Focus. I know it's hard to do vehicles when you're world building on a television budget... Just kept pulling me right out.

Anyway, I'm in for the long haul. Definitely the strongest pilot this year outside of the Blacklist.

I figured it came down to the fact that the MX series were a walking/talking/enforcer video camera for the human cops. As the show points out - all logic, must report all infractions no matter how minor.
