So I'm super, super new to this but this game is oodles of fun. I've just finished every mission in Mercury, got the regular Braton to level 10, twigged that fusing things makes them better and how that works.

I'm trying to get Morphics so I can build the dojo key because it seems like an important thing I should do; is Vor a good place for this? I keep getting the receiver for his pistol so I guess I'll just build that whenever I get the barrel, but my priority is still the dojo key.

Also I started as Mag and have fused my Pull up a few ranks, I want to pick up Loki and Excal but Mag feels really good.

e: Oh, I applied and got invited into the clan as monstrodoom. If you see me online and don't mind hanging out with a workaholic who plays an average of five hours a week in low-level content, feel free to drop in. :byodame:

I heard from a coworker that there's a guaranteed melee weapon schematic the first time you drop General Vor. Is this true? Because I didn't get it. Is there any other way to acquire this blueprint?

e: It hasn't dropped any of the five times I've killed Vor, either.

Well, that's really cool. :colbert:

I guess it's just a starter melee or something so I shouldn't sweat it, but I don't like being crapped out of a guaranteed item like that. My first trip to Vor, I got the Seer Receiver, so I figured the pistol should be enough.

I play with a controller because I'm bad, but oddly if this game was a bit more like ME3 and the 'use' key/button doubled as a slide button while sprinting it'd solve basically every issue I have with playing with a controller (not being able to slide, mostly).

I love the ridiculous lotuses all over them. They're ostentatious to a serious degree - I was raising akstilettos and swapped them out for the dex furis right away because, new gun, why not, right?

The fire rate on them is straight up silly. They're definitely not bad but they hose bullets so insanely fast that you'd have to have a rifle's ammo cap on pistols to make them really worthwhile. If we could ME3 guns and tag basically any gun as primary and any other gun as secondary - with associated, ratioed ammo caps - guns like the furis would be a lot more viable.

I'd like to divert from all this talk about a poop gun that shoots frisbees to talk about a gun that shoots metal bricks that explode whenever you want them to and does silly amounts of damage.

I'm just barely mastery rank 6. All of my elemental mods are rank 1 or unranked. My serration adds a paltry 100ish% bonus damage.

My penta currently does 153 impact + 718 blast + 783 radiation + 261 viral per brick. Ditch the miter and get a brick launcher. :coal:

At first the difference isn't too great but essentially if it's bare skin, Slashing is best, if it's heavy armour, Puncture is best, and if it's shields, Impact is best.

If you like charging in and finishing with melee I'd recommend a fast-firing weapon unless your moving accuracy is quite high. Guns like the Karak or Tetra are goodish up until you can get a Gorgon/Supra/Soma. You might try the burston/hind; I found with a high rank serration the Hind is less than bad.

Don't buy Valkyr with plat. If you're going to buy any frame with plat, only buy the 75-play frames. Valkyr's available from Alad V in Jupiter, and has inexpensive build prices.

Valkyr loving rules and is well worth it. Rhino's also pretty good until then.

Channeling seems to increase the base damage of your melee attacks at the expense of some energy per swing. Great for most frames - less great for Valkyr, oddly. Valkyr should keep 100 energy on hand at all times for Hysteria and basically always be in Hysteria because it's your invincible murdermode.

I would never stop using the Gorgon if it actually got a mini-gun model ala Terminator 2 instead of the generic Grineer blob of metal that all their guns get. I'm sure there's some way to compromise with the art style to let me be a T101.

This is basically my problem. I really enjoy the playstyle of the Gorgon and Soma but I really wish I could get the stats and action of them in a bigass underslung hunk of machinery that visibly rotates. Like a mega-Cestra. I know the Supra is essentially that, but it doesn't have the look.

But they work really well so I use them anyway.

e: The Grakata seems surprisingly not bad for as cheap of a gun as it is to build. I regret sticking it out with the Braton as long as I did, the recoil on this thing takes me back to a place mentally where my tactics were "point gun at feet, hold fire".

Basically this. The Grakata's got mildly higher recoil and (it feels like) a much higher ROF out of the box and overall, but until its recoil kicks in it's super accurate. The Soma is a similar gun with higher base damage and pays off just as well with crit mods.

I wasn't sure I was going to hang on to the Grakata and I'm still not, because it's such an incredible ammo hose compared to the Soma. But it's one of those guns I really have to think about, which isn't common for guns that are that cheap to make.

Similarly, I spent a while using the Attica in a Tower II Exterminate tonight and it feels really bad. Like, worse than accidentally leaving Hobbled on when tumbling into a survival bad.

It's got fairly high base crit chance (20%) but fires quite slowly with non-hitscan projectiles that only do 1.5x at base on crit. Compared to the hitscan critbeast that the Soma is the Attica is kind of a dumb toy.

It's also not silent.

Volt is awesome. He's got incredible shields and 100% status on his 1 and 4; anything that can be stunned by them will be. Speed is an amazing skill, and his electric barrier is incredibly useful. He's like someone combined Ember and Frost and made them fast.

Saryn has a decoy, like Loki, and it's about as useful. She's also got much higher health and armour, an ability that adds significant toxic damage to melee, and an incredibly good 4. Her 1 is kind of trash, though.

Oberon only has one good power, is slow, and has bad shields. His powers are so incredibly situational - his 1 is okay in tight corridors, his 2 is good when extended for defense maps, his 3 is ... it's a health-only regen effect, so basically not that useful. His 4 is a worse Crush that shits health orbs.

Croccers posted:

Shooting through Electric Shield buffs damage or crit rate or something too it seems.

Yeah - shooting out from the inside electrifies your rounds. If you have other elements slotted, iirc this can combine with them. Easy way to test this would be to pack an Ignis onto a mission as Volt and see if your flamethrower starts proccing radiation, but I'm like 60% certain it's the case. Either way, free bonus damage/status.

Volt is a total redmage. The only thing he's 100% the best at among the frames is stunning mooks for a second or so for a paltry amount of energy, but he does a ton of stuff quite well.

Also, I agree with cats on Valkyr vs Trinity - it's really not a fair comparison and anyone who's spent a minute+ in Hysteria mode would agree. Valkyr should be considered a Spiderman frame whose invulnerability is a turbo kill mode best used for clearing rooms that are too packed for Iron Skin or in which teammates are downed. Valkyr is a ton of fun.

e: Oh, I got nabbed as the Harvester while on Oberon at some point last night. Escape is a pretty fun mission type and I secretly hope it gets updated in terms of content and to have a boss and be the only place parts for a future Alad V manipulated frame to drop. Or something.

Having Defense missions essentially pick up a couple of features from ME3 multiplayer's special waves would be good for diversity's sake. Really, these would be good to have in literally any mission, as any time the mission objective changes slightly or something new is introduced the game is inherently more fun.
I never love it as much as when the G3 show up, for example.

So, say you're running a defense mission, and between two waves Lotus goes, "Tenno, some device has begun drawing the artifact into the body of the ship. Find its controlling terminal and stop it." Rather than stand around like jerks you must now search for and complete a targeted terminal hack within a limited amount of time. Something like that would be not insurmountable to implement and introduce a lot of variety for players' mission experiences.

Why do people keep telling me the drakgoon is good? Is it a "good, if you must settle for a shotgun" sort of good or is there something about this thing I'm missing?

Its base damage is high but literally any other charge-damage weapon I have would outperform it. Is it simply unimpressive because I'm coming to it after having too much fun blowing myself and everything near me apart with explosives? Because I'm nearly 30 with it and it honestly feels like the Sobek got more done - and people keep telling me it's terrible.

Even fully-charged it only seems decent point-blank, at which point I might as well melee. Otherwise its pellets travel too slowly to be much use given they have falloff. So far I'm at 0 neato shotguns, though to be entirely fair I've yet to build the boar prime or phage and expect those will be about a billion times more fun.

If you don't want to twiddle your mods a lot, pump in elemental mods and serration and split chamber or their equivalent and go for something fast-firing with good base damage.
e: Also, if you just want to set your damage elements and forget about them, go with either blast+corrosive or viral+radiation. I prefer blast because knockdown.

I recommend the Penta. With enough base damage the impact from the grenades themselves will kill things, the explosion is just a bonus at that point.

People use the Soma a lot but it's reliant on pumping crit. The non-crit alternative is the Boltor Prime, which does silly high amounts of damage and, with Heavy Caliber in addition to everything else, is basically a superior shotgun in every way.
Since all you have is the Hind and Mk-1, give building the regular Boltor a shot, and save stuff up for throwing together a Penta. The Penta owns and you will feel good killing yourself with it.

Its range is also much further than you would expect, it'll hit to 30-40 yards sometimes.
