I think I may have started playing this at a bad time (like last weekend), but this terrible game is kind of my thing, lots of complicated stat nerdery, and the combat/movement is kind of really fun now I've made key bindings that don't require three hands.

Also have lots of shiny gear from two Twitch/Prime rewards, so that helps. And the Amazon free trial thing definitely works, it can just take a little while to arrive.

Anyway, the new open world expansion is buggy and horrible, and can probably wait a bit - I have barely got to grips with what there was before that released, and still have most of the solar system to unlock.

What I don't yet have is a pet dog, mostly because I cannot seem to finish the mission for incubator segment on Venus. What is the deal with that?

I think I figured out survival missions aren't about surviving so much as collecting the life supports (even if you don't need any life), and have completed plenty of normal ones, but even when bee-lining the spawn points before they arrive on this one I still run out of time. And not the usual thing where health starts plummeting, just a straight up mission fail.

Don't worry about the dog yet, they really shouldn't give you that quest before you clear most of the star map. Dogs are super expensive to make and even more expensive to upkeep. Cats even more so.
Movement is cool but you probably aren't doing it right yet (not a dig, the game really doesn't explain anything). I'd say watch a few videos and learn the wiki page on movement if you haven't yet. Also the wiki is super useful in general if you haven't found it yet. Probably the most important things to know are how to bullet jump, how to control your motion in the air (i.e. aim gliding and midair rolls), when to use airborne movement vs sliding and rolling, and the general layouts of the different map tiles.
Survival missions are another thing that the game doesn't really explain how to do. The canisters give you 30% on the life support bar, so don't pop them until you're below 70% or you're wasting them. The personal life support modules that enemies and containers drop give you 5%. You need at least some of the personal modules to complete the mission, IIRC. What's happening where the mission instafails is that you ran out of support before 5 minutes, which was changed sometime in the past few months from behaving like usual (losing health until you die and fail) to the crappy autofail. I'd recommend being on public for basically every mission except maybe spy (even then it's probably worth it until you learn the vaults), that way there will usually be 4 players which causes more enemies to spawn to raise the chance of important drops like excavation power cells or personal life support.

Thanks, that's very helpful re. the life support stuff, and I'll hold off on the doggy.

Though I think one of the few things the game does explain well is the movement/parkour stuff. You have the tutorials, codex, captura mode to muck about in, etc. And yeah, I read wikis, and the OP on SA when jumping into a new complicated game, I'm old school like that.

Have been bullet-jumping (originally read that as ballet-jumping!) & air gliding since I started. Not being able to make a roll/slide with double-tap on WASD is annoying, as is not being able to bind SHIFT+something, but I am getting used to doing that with mouse thumb button, bouncing of the walls and generally killing things like a hyperactive idiot.

Don't bother getting a dog until you're comfortably space rich. Dogs and cats don't contribute much until you specced them specifically to do certain things. At this time, you should really get a Sentinel, any one of them though we reccommend Carrier or Taxon which you could get as a Junction reward, and max out their mod Vacuum.

No worries, I've got Taxon and 4/5 vacuum so far - anything that translates as "pick up loot you might miss" is a no-brainer.

Also got the mod that sucks shields out of enemies, and that's very useful - just completed my first hijack mission on the way to Jupiter, and that was basically the dreaded escort quest, with a horrible slow thing to escort...but actually fun 'cause I had to balance feeding the thing that eats shields vs. cowering behind cover to recharge 'em.

Syndicates - they're probably quite important, aren't they? I've reached the giddy heights of mastery 4, and am on Jupiter now, but haven't done anything with a syndicate yet.

Is there a general goon recommendation for which ones to go for, or does it depend on which weapons/frames you like? Or is it another one of those worry about it at endgame things?

It's always best to have something in every slot <30 to be levelling mastery, right?

I'm ok with that for a while except secondary weapon. Am now MR5, and have:

Furis - It's...an ugly submachinegun, kind of meh.
Mk1-1 Kunai - lvl 24 already - effective, but dull.
Kraken - This is terrible, unless I'm missing something.
Angstrum - Just started building now (gently caress argon crystals), no idea yet, but looks fun, even if I can kill myself with it.

Have a Seer blueprint and lots of cells, but no parts yet - could kill Vor a lot I guess.

Is there anything worthwhile to get from clan lab, or blueprints buyable for credits? I prefer slow & high damage per-shot weapons that reward aiming.

Marelok is the best bang for your buck in the dojo. But it does require detonite injectors and a forma.

At MR5 you should get the Hek bp at the market and bum off someone for its syndicate augment.

The Lex is also credits only and a decent secondary.

I'm building forma as we speak, got plenty detonite...the limiting factor with all this good stuff is credits.

But I now I know Seimeni is good for 25K+ a run, and that is fun and easy, so Lex is on the list - thanks!

That was a good upgrade. A six-shooter sniper pistol, just what I wanted. Even the bucket-helmet corpus go down in one shot if I aim right, as do their awful flying robot shield generators.

Obviously now I want the prime version. Already have a barrel from some random relic mission, and found this gibberish. It all looks 'common', which is probably good news, but what do the numbers & letters mean?

What Tulip said earlier.

The forma blueprints are not re-usable like some others are. 1 blueprint = 1 forma, so worth running alert missions that reward one.

Also, Ayatan stars - ideally you plug those into Ayatan sculptures, which you get via weekly mission from Maroo (or very rarely just lying around), and then trade the star-filled sculpture in for tons of endo. After admiring how shiny and hypnotic they are...

Or just sell the the stars to her for less endo, but still a decent amount.

Got everything worth getting from that, have a month's worth of affinity boost + forma (assuming I can find enough neural sensors), more sentinel slots than there are sentinels, loads of filthy Latron BP credits, and a Vectis Prime, which is a damm fun gun. Two of 'em in fact, just a shame I can't give the spare to someone who missed out.

Now what to do with the fireworks....

Once you get to a 50% (or 75%) discount you can justify a lot of the purchases, even the occasional orokin reactor or not easily farmed frame. If you'd rather not wait for the luck of a coupon draw there's always the prime bundle. Since that's a higher than 50% discount on the plat but also requires you to sink about 80 bucks on the game.

If only we lived in the world where �50 = $80 for real things...but yeah, that sounds about right.

I bought that prime bundle (game is worth �50, easy), and whilst I'm not hugely blown away by Hydroid Prime frame, it's still good, and the weapons are excellent for a new player - they'll max out to 30 soon enough, and you're kind of forced to use other things to level mastery, but it's nice to have the option for a tricky mission.

You can get just the prime weapons + 1050 plat for �33, which seems like a decent deal for a game you'll play for months if you know you like it, and that'll buy a lot of slots for the insane amount of stuff that is craftable from goon labs & market blueprints.

Definitely don't just buy 1000 plat + mod for �33 without at least the 50% discount bonus though.

Anyone know what the currently completeable prime frames from void relic drops are? I have bits of Valkyr and Nekros so far. Any others?

Also, I think I just worked out (thanks to posting above) what 'corpro' in the clan LFG chat I'm nowhere near ready for yet is - how hard is that mod to come by?

It's from the Nidus patch, essentially it will grow to full size in 7(?) days and then it will allow you into the spooky infested room in the back of your ship. If you do not desire to be spoiled for what is back there, don't go back there.

If you've completed the Kubrow quest, when it is full size you can use it to make an infested Kubrow!

Edit: you get it from playing with people who have it and spread it to others now that you have it, you have the option to remove it by going into the spooky room at which point that frame will never get it again (as far as I remember), but it has to be done per frame. :/

A question - I'm stuck at 44K rep with two factions while I try and find 200K credits to upgrade to the next rank. Is anything I earn now wasted, or does it keep track like mastery rank?

Also, a tip, for anyone who doesn't do this. I just accidentally figured out double-tapping space will instantly 'skip animation'. I had been using ESC + mouse click like a chump. Many seconds will be saved!

Turn off both Dx10 and DX11 in settings via gear icon at the top.

That at least lets the download start, though not sure I'd want to play in DX9.

This is absolutely bonkers! She has a full on sequencer UI for making tunes that somehow interact with abilities if you can time actions to a beat? This is going to take a while to get to grips with...

Game is loving crazy.

Was solo, and not damaging him of course, but combo multiplier went up to 3 quick enough with a relentless mod. And I kept it there for nearly a minute, but riven is still veiled. Do I have to do this the hard way?

I was literally one shotting everything so far while taking minimal damage. then the boss wrecked my poo poo up because I literally couldn't see where to shoot it to cause damage.

Jackal's a bastard solo when you first meet the fucker. I eventually got him down with Frost Prime from Twitch and a lot of patience. There is next to no feedback as to what you should be doing. Rapid fire weapons help. Gorgon if you have a blueprint for it is good. Standing underneath him with a good melee weapon can work sometimes too. Definitely not the Paris bow.

Oh, and you'll be needing to kill him a lot more for Rhino parts. That frame is seriously good. I eventually relented and just joined pub groups 'til I got 'em.

And on the subject of scanning poo poo, has anyone else noticed Helios (prime if it makes a difference) not scanning things recently? I�ve put investigate mod in various slots, but it�ll scan 1 or 2 things and just stop. Thing used to burn through tons of scanners per mission, so it definitely used to work.

Not all at the same time, but these are what I've had the most fun with lately.

Frame: Octavia. Killing in time to the beat! I wish I could come up with something more addictive than the default music.

Primary: Zhuge with thunderbolt + speed trigger. For when sniping isn't an option. Live dangerously.

Secondary: Lex prime. So good. If only it had a better sound effect.

Melee: Have yet to find anything *fun* for melee. I use it to pop crates, and as an emergency kill when gun skills/reload time fails.

Yeah, plastids are a bastard, and remain so for a while. By the time you start finding more, you need more.

Phobos is the first place they show up I think, and that's just after Mars.

Not many, but combine that with the occasional alert mission reward and you can get 600 for Rhino without too much trouble.

I normally run spy missions for resource-hunting - there's a finite amount of easy enemies to deal with, and lots of crates/lockers. Try and get a mod that gives +LOOT RADAR (you almost certainly have a Thief's wit if nothing else), explore everywhere, and open all the containers, it adds up.

You can. The advice given to me here was not to bother 'til later, and that was good advice. It's quite a resource sink.

Still, if you like freaky-looking 'dogs', go for it. Just freeze the thing once you decide it's too much bother.

And Oberon's alright. Not great, but he sure looks cool. Hallowed ground can be good when it works (infested hordes will rip each other to shreds), and having a heal skill is good for trying to solo nightmare missions with no shields if you don't have Nidus.

Massive amounts of armor and regen you can maintain in perpetuity with jacked power strength and Rage/Hunter's Adrenaline. He can carry pubbies through just about every Sortie on the back of the sheer amount of teamwide +armor and +regen he puts out, easily.

I was mostly coming at it from an early/mid game solo perspective, but glad it wasn't a wasted potato! I do like him, and definitely going to be a future fashionframe when I eventually reach the point of having nothing useful to waste plat on.

Sounds about right.

If it were clear and simple how armour & health & damage types & whatnot worked everyone would immediately gear up for the most effective setup to kill things as quickly as possible.

If it was horribly confusing (it is!), and constantly being messed with, it would take maybe a week after a major change before a consensus on the most effective setup became apparent. And then everyone would immediately...etc.

The only 'solution' I can think of is even more sillier damage types (there's already poo poo with colours and music that is going in the right direction), and weapons that launch other types of weapon, and costly powers that subvert expectations and...there's a reason I'm not a game designer. And that'll only go so far.

Honestly, I'm amazed they have kept this going as long as it has without resorting to the "start over again, everything you had is now irrelevant" approach you get from, say, a WoW expansion or a new season in Diablo/Path of Exile/whatever.

Especially if you equip basic Oberon.

Game is sure worth money, and certainly spend it if you have it, but never rush anything, that is madness.

As well as slots (which you need) just see what shiny primes/rare mods you can get on https://warframe.market for way less than anything you can spend in-game, or join clan and trade with goons who are 99.9% unlikely to rip you off.

Just got booster, and combined with the weekend thing, it's making quite a difference.

Also, there's a lvl 5-7 reactor alert up now for a day, and it's infested survival, so you can just sit there racking up the kill count and bathing in all that affinity!

How does you actually buy (or even look at) this new Tennogen stuff?

I see none of these in market, and there is nothing appearing under Tennogen -> Warframe skins there at all?
