Always put 18 into wisdom at character creation when playing Planescape: Torment no matter what class you want to play as. Trust me on this.

For Torment, you're justified in just cheating your stats up to all 18s. A lot of the more interesting story content is gated on having 18 Wis/Int/Cha, and the combat just isn't very good. All 18s means you can experience as much of the :words: as you want and get a leg up in the pretty bad combat.

Speaking of which, are there any of the "traditional" BG1 mods (e.g. BG1UB, fixpacks, etc.) that aren't included in EE? Trying to figure out how much extra stuff I need to install to get EE up to the same level as a normal modded BGT install.

Requoting myself since it went unnoticed: should I install UB, the fixpack, etc. on top of EE?

Does anyone know off the top of their head which of the BG2 fixpack fixes causes items to have the wrong description text in BG1EE? Before I go uninstalling them one by one to figure it out.

You shouldn't be using any fixpacks with BG1EE.

Yeah, I meant to type tweak pack, not fixpack. I want my casting/thieving in heavy armour and my item stacks, drat it.

The only component I installed that actually messes with item description text is the rebalanced proficiencies, but that doesn't seem to be the culprit. I guess I'll have to uninstall the whole thing and verify each component individually.

Even though I liked their implementation in IWD2, and generally prefer it to the BG/IWD1 system, I could never make myself install those mods since these game really aren't balanced for it. Do enemy thieves/spellcasters ever even take advantage of these if you mod it in?

They don't really make the game easier than it already is - the heavy armour casting penalties are steep so it's never advisable to cast in heavy armour. I'm pretty sure no new enemies will take advantage of it because all arcane casters wear robes. I mostly do it for convenience - it means being able to pick locks etc. without taking the armour off at high levels of thief skills, not that it's going to be particularly useful in BG1.

I found out what was breaking item descriptions - the "improved MP kick-out dialogue" component didn't install properly. Removing it fixed it, but sadly I'm still getting an "internal label [1] not found in processed DLG [MULTIG]" when I try to reinstall it so it looks like it's a problem with EE's MP scripts. Weird that the tweakpack doesn't pick up on that, since it's EE-aware.

You can faceroll pretty much everything in BG1... if you actually know what you're doing, and are willing to go out of your way to play in a way that makes the game easier.

Always equip everyone with ranged weapons that they can actually use, learn to scout (if you see an enemy, use the auto-pause to stop everyone and pull them back, then bait them one-by-one) and contact with your best-armoured dude and then kite enemies, find those hidden items, provoke the Flaming Fist patrol north of Nashkel and steal their three sets of plate armour and abuse Sleep/Web on your arcane casters. The first third of the game (where you're most vulnerable) becomes a game of walking around in tight formation and just unleashing a barrage of arrows and sling bullets on anything that shows up.

It's the annoyance of the 3 BG1 NPC mages. Dynaheir can't cast sleep and Xan can't cast magic missile, web or fireball (though he can cast skull trap). While Edwin can do both, he can't cast identify for all the magic loot you'll collect. Kind of makes me want to pull out my hair when I'm playing through as a non-wizard and trying to decide which one I want in the party.

I ended up using EEKeeper to change Dynaheir to a normal Mage, because man, what kind of idiot specialises their Mage, that's suboptimal as all hell when you're the only MU in the party.

For anyone who wants to know how to do this (this is based on Rascyc's info post from a few pages back, but I found there was some more stuff that needed to be done):

Set the NPC's level to 0, and their max/current HP to 0 (this should automatically be converted to 1HP ignoring Con bonuses once you load your save). Set their attacks to 1, their ThAC0 to 20 and their AC to 10. You shouldn't need to touch proficiencies, but that's easy to fix if they accidentally end up with one more than they should. Use this page to figure out what their level 1 saves should be, and set their saves to those (only really applicable if the NPC is above level 3, but whatever).

Save the changes, then load your game and level that character up. They'll end up with the right HP/AC/ThAC0/spell progression/etc. for their level.

e; vv eh, it takes me approximately 30 seconds to do and works without fail for everyone including the PC. Swings and roundabouts.

Is it me, or are pathfinding and AI scripts even more hosed in BGEE than they were in BG1? Characters frequently take the long way around or just get stuck trying to walk into a wall instead of going around to the stairs/ramp, or else just stop walking for no reason. Characters also sometimes auto-attack with AI off, and Jaheira's been casting spells despite being set to cleric passive (wasting Summon Insects on a loving wolf, or casting Bless multiple times in a row). :iiam:

Yeah, it's the sometimes that gets me. If they consistently switched targets when you give them an attack order and the original target dies, that would be perfectly fine. If they didn't, it would also be perfectly fine. It's the fact that it's a crapshoot as to which they'll do that's a pain.
