Googling around doesn't turn up much other than "save a lot and learn to live with it." I feel I should warn you on a related issue with an art gallery you'll encounter later in the game. It wasn't just transitions in to that place but it seemed like uncovering fog of war on certain items would make it crash. Unfortunately you'll have to go through there for the main story but I managed, somehow.
