I need a tablet to read 500 page paper size pdfs. I tried out a fire 10 at target and it seemed to be able to handle the file just fine. So I'm leaning that way. Something cheap and simple.

But I was also hoping for something that I could run Google Docs on and pair it with a Bluetooth keyboard and do some writing. But it sounds like that's not possible now that Google has broken sideloading the play store?

Are there any other Android choices in that form factor that are decent and don't cost $500? Some other way to do writing within Amazon's ecosystem?

i have one of these

https://www.amazon.com/ZenPad-2048x1536-Android-Titanium-Z500M-C1-GR/dp/B01MATMXZV?th=1

the only issue i have is that the home button is kinda wonky but i think that might just be mine since i couldnt really turn up anybody w that issue while googling it

i also have a BT keyboard on it actually. the fintie KB/Case that is designed for that tablet. pretty good poo poo.

Google hasn't broken the Play store on Fire tablets; they've just made it so you have to individually configure each device on your account. It's just another step in the setup process, which wasn't the most intuitive thing in the world to begin with.

What's limiting you to Android? Google is trying to forget they ever made Android tablets. Seriously, go look at what they're selling on the official Android tablet marketing page: three options that are literally discontinued and mostly NLA from the linked retailers, and a Samsung tablet from 2015 that's stuck on Nougat.

If you want a PDF reader and document editor without having to hack around the Fire limitations, just get an iPad, Goodreader, and Google Docs. At this point they're as cheap as any of the Android options with decent hardware anyway.

i would have grabbed an ipad myself but lol if i was carrying around a lightning cable when my laptop and 2 phones are usb-c

My only gripe is that I found it a bit dark, even when maxing out the screen brightness and game brightness. I've never found that screen to be particularly dark before tbh either so I think its possibly that game.

If it's just Google maps or waze, if you're in America your cell provider should have a free tablet they'll provide you if you activate a line of service with them. I'm looking for a cheap, lightweight, laptop form-factor Android device for taking out into the field and logging radio contacts.

As for requirements, it needs to be able to charge off of 5V USB, have a good interface for file management, and be able to quickly switch back and forth between images, PDFs, and a word processor.

Does a device like that even exist?

do you basically need an android tablet and a keyboard? thats what it sounds like you need.

For potential inspiration purposes: https://www.amazon.com/Fintie-ZenPa...=gateway&sr=8-6 - thats the one i have for my model, they make a bunch.

Right now they're $79. Which is about what a tablet would cost. Also bonus it works with those cheap smart bulbs. Just a heads up, theres some very dodgy tablets going around on Ebay..

If your wondering what your looking at, Thats an android 4.4 tablet with the OS identity string sabotaged to say Android 8.1

I won't name names, but its basically tablets for under $100 (significantly under in some cases)
claiming to be;-
Android 8.1 : (Its android 4.4)
2Ghz: (Its 1.3ghz)
10 Core: (Ad claims 10 core, SpecDevice claims 5 cores, but I cant find any evidence of the ARM7s with 5 cores ....Its a mystery)
Resolution : 2560*1600: (Its 1280x800)
4Gb Ram: (Its 1Gb)
64gb Storage: (Its 16 Gb)
4G phone: (Couldn't actually get this to work, the baseband identifier suggests its only 2G/GSM)

The worst part is they've hacked the settings app to claim its got all the things in the ad, but on deeper dive its just fraud.

I've contacted eBay but they dont seem interested in investigating it because the seller refunded me (Only after I threatened to rat him out to the Malaysian Commercial Crime Investigation Division) so I guess best I can do is just raise the alarm publicly not to buy these counterfeit tablets

The best you can do is actually name the names, rather than coming in here and showing everybody your math in copious detail and then waiting for us to coax the answer out of you.

E: to be clear, it seems like you did good work but my work flow for fraud starts at who before it goes to how

You just said a bunch of nonsense that I assume isn't even real because you intentionally and willfully didn't provide the only relevant piece of data in the whole set
