"That the best you got!?," she laughed, shoving the dragonborn away from her...and then stumbling as she felt the strength ebbing from her body and her vision blurring. Bryn Bryn just stood there, waiting and watching as the floor was set on fire, chandeliers crashed from the ceiling, and fighting raged around her...just another day, really...but right now she was interested in more than hacking away at endless shadow clones or whatever these things were. Somewhere in this room was the real assassin, the one who wouldn't stop with that annoying laugh, and even though she was invisible, all she had to do was wait... A plummeting chandelier shattered over a distinctly dragonborn-shaped silhouette, cutting off the laughter with a yelp. Bryn grinned. Sometimes patience didn't suck after all. Charging across the ballroom floor, she didn't give the assassin (the actual one this time) the chance to recover from the indignity of having a ceiling fixture dropped on her before slamming into her at full speed, checking her to the ground and hefting her axe up high. "Tag," she said, bringing the heavy blade chopping back down, "you're it." Minor Action: Use my Versatile Armor's at-will ability. My AC is reduced by 1 but I now ignore speed and skill penalties from armor, this effect is permanent until I change it back. Bryn's AC is now 19 and her Speed is now 6. Move + Standard Action: Move and charge Kynara, skirting around the difficult terrain and arriving at P-6. I roll a 14 total, but I'm actually in range of Ed's Lead the Attack bonus which turns it into an 18, and then I use Heroic Effort to add an additional +4 for a final total of 22 which hits her AC. Then I also use Takedown Strike to add +4 to my damage and knock Kynara prone. Genevieve SHATTER! This... this was it. Gene's blood was boiling. And now her poor Eddie was being hurt! Ohh... all Gene can see is red. And then... Kynara! Right in front of her! On the back, belly up! "Prinzezz! You are as elegant as ze moon and all ze stars in ze zky!" Gene originally had a really overly dramatic acrobatic tumble and run planned for crossing the entire room recklessly and in full charge. Instead she moves to M15 and appears next to the prone Kynara, basking in Eddie's glorious aura and flicking her dagger in her hand rapidly, rubbing her thumb along a single rune on the hilt. I was originally going to use these rolls to go before Saty, but after some map play, realized I couldn't reach Kynara. Then along came Saty. Using the same rolls to be fair, ignore the description of them. First off, she brings her dagger down to Kynara's right snout and flicks the point directly into it by the barest centimeter before drawing it across her face, right by the eye in an Acrobat's Strike!! Roll of 1 + 14 = 15 + Eddie's 5 = 20, meeting her AC! The painful little flick deals 8 damage to Kynara... Off that Acrobat's Strike, Gene flickers and shifts to L15, still adjacent to Kynara but adjusting her own positioning. Action Point! Gene draws the dagger to her opposite hand in a lightning fast flick and repeats the motion with the other nostril of Kynara's snout, dragging it through her face as hard as she can to give her a matching X-Slash from snout to eye! The rune on her dagger flickers and flashes as she is granted CA against Kynara again. Roll of 14 + 14 + Eddie's 5 = 33. This bloody draw deals an initial 8 damage but Gene's efforts to really ruin Kynara result in a far bloodier additional 14 sneak attack damage. "Zat was my try. Ziz is my du! And.. adieu!" Off the second Acrobat's Strike, she shifts from L15 to K16 and falls into the shadow cast by the pillar(Stealth 31) So again, I was originally going to Run + Charge, did my rolls ahead of time, popped an Action Point and my Dagger Daily, then realized I couldn't. Saty moved Kynara for me, so I used the same rolls and the Action Point and Dagger Daily to be fair. Sorry Hash! Here's the full actions. Her cruel laughter echoes through the shadows. Mirabelle hears a whisper in the darkness: "You will die for slandering Her Radiance's name!" Adrian: Your Sidhe Knight alerts you to danger before its conciousness fades away... Lawbreaker: Sinister Shadows All light in the room is extinguished by some foul magic, leaving all squares totally obscured. Kynara's attacks (but not the clones') deal +1d10 damage during Sinister Shadows. If Kynara takes damage, Sinister Shadows ends. As with all Law/Worldbreaker powers, all conditions are removed. This also adds a -15 penalty to attacking chandeliers! Breaking through the darkness: Aside from simply damaging Kynara, there are two methods of ending the unnatural darkness. A DC 20 Perception check will allow you to see through the illusion. Additionally, any light source will cast light into all adjacent squares. If you have low-light vision, you can see out to two squares with a light source. There are sconces with candles in them along the walls - at R6 and R15, M1 and E1, A6 and A15, and M20 and E20. Lighting a candle is a free action. A knife flashes in the darkness, cutting Mirabelle for 14 damage and weakening her, save ends. Genevieve Gene dashes back towards the convenient flaming blaze of tapestry, snatches up a candle, touches it to Mira's handiwork and dashes over to duck behind another pillar, feeling that carrying a lit candle is as bad form as those addicted clowns who light up a cigarette before they're clear and announce to the entire world that a lit cherry is over yonder. Edouard "God's blood, zis is a deesastair! I believe I owe everyone an 'I told you so!'" You can tell Edouard's stressed, he's not even trying to hide his accent anymore. He moves to... where did Mirabelle go, exactly? Well, he moves to within 5 squares of that -- it's easy to tell where that is with the combination of flames and low-light vision. He encourages Mirabelle to keep fighting with a combination of Inspiring Word and Adaptive Strategem, giving her a Healing Surge +1, +3 temporary HP, and her save vs. poison at the end of her next round is at +3. And as far as I can tell, Mirabelle is the only one who's still around/in range to hit Kynara, so with an Action Point Edouard tells Mirabelle to "Rise up like ze Phoenix! In the flames of new life, burn ze evil to ashes!" to Direct the Strike, allowing her to make a ranged basic attack at +5 to hit and +2 to damage. Bryn Bryn opened her mouth to say something extremely pointed (and profane) regarding people who teleported the assassin she was busy killing out of her reach when everything went dark. Not just "lights out at night" dark, but "magical shroud of unnatural shadow smothering all light within its insidious grasp" dark (an important distinction to make). "Aw come the gently caress on, what is this bullshit!?," Bryn shouted, swearing profusely as she stubbed her toe on a piece of fallen chandelier. Assassins were just the worst. Next time they were just letting Mirabelle set the whole room on fire. At least they'd be able to see. Of course that was when Adrian started shouting something about the Queen and running for the door. She could see Kynara's silhouette outlined by a blast of fire from Mirabelle...all the way across the room but she could get there, she could charge right over and plant her axe square in the annoying dragonborn's annoying face...she tightened her grip on the handle of her axe... ...and charged out of the ballroom, using Mirabelle's flames to guide her through the unnatural darkness before stumbling out into the hallway and taking off for the Queen's chambers. Running from a fight sucked almost as much as assassins did, but letting your patron get killed before she could pay you sucked even more. "Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-!" It didn't take long for her to retrace her steps, and as she approached the door to where they'd left the Queen she simply raised her shield and crashed straight through without slowing down. "-uuuuuuuck you! Oh yeah, I'm back bitches, an' I got mad axe for everyone!," she shouted, quickly setting about protecting the Queen from any would-be assailants through the judicious application of waraxe-to-face. Standard Action: as per Hashtags in the IRC channel, a Standard Action is enough to get me from the ballroom back to the where the Queen is. Everything else that happens once I arrive is speculative because I don't know exactly who or what is in there, but just in case: Move Action: Move into a good position to protect the Queen and do the following. The darkness vanishes, restoring the morning sunlight filtering in through the large windows. Kynara smirks briefly before taking a fireball to the face. Adrian and Bryn arrive at a gruesome scene. Sanford's bloodied corpse lies near the broken window, the word "SUCKERS" painted in blood on floor. Celestine is nowhere in sight. You think you see a dark figure jumping out the window with the tail of a star-patterned dress following it. Oops. Kynara moves to O14; clones move to H18 and P9. Kynara stabs Edouard for 6 damage! Genevieve ... Gene soundlessly drops to a low dash, sprints past the clueless clone in Stealth and despite holding a candle, comes up behind Kynara! You'd think she might be a bit far away but sheer rage propels her forward as she shifts up to Kynara, grabs one of her cheek frills from behind and stabs her in the face again for Then she presses the lit candle into one of her eyes, the sudden flash of light exposing violent angry lines under Gene's eyes from the strain of gritting her teeth. It's not a very effective move and only yields an additional 5 damage, but Gene's practical and keeps the candle lit even after the showy mangling. Bryn "...aw fuckballs." Not only had a perfectly good dramatic entrance just gone completely to waste but the Queen was missing as well. Missing but not dead though, at least it didn't look that way...from experience Bryn was a fairly good judge of how much blood a person's body held, and the room only appeared to have a single person's worth decorating it. Bryn: You leap out the window, falling several stories and into the wooded park that lies next to the castle. Despite your heavy armor, you're keeping pace with the kidnapper pretty easily, but not quite enough to catch up. Desperate to escape, he jumps and twists in the air, tossing a handful of caltrops at the spot where he jumped from, but you effortlessly jump over them. The kidnapper, having already landed, looks over his shoulder and grimaces. He pulls a sheet of paper from a pouch and shouts some incomprehensible words; the queen vanishes into thin air, half of his body following before you finally catch him by the ankle, dragging him out of the rift in space he'd created. But no Celestine. Dammit. You've got a dragonborn quaking in fear on the ground in front of you, and a surprise round if you want to engage him in combat! What do you do? Ballroom: Kynara staggers, still laughing maniacally. She's clearly satisfied: her job went off without a hitch, and her service to Tiamat has been fulfilled. She drops her blade to the floor and slumps down after it, the clones disappearing in a mixture of shadow and smoke. Kynara gives Mirabelle a severe look, speaking for the first time with absolute lucidity: "Her Radiance always wins in the end. You can fight her all you like, but she is timeless! Even if it takes her millenia, she will claim this universe as her own! You'll do well to remember not to anger her, Lafarean, unless you want your life - and your afterlife - to be very, very painful." She laughs again, coughing up some blood along with it. You've got an insane and dangerous dragonborn assassin trained in dark magic on the ground in front of you. You can finish her or question her. What do you do? Everyone is now level 5! You also mysteriously find enough gold for everyone to buy one level 6 magic item!

Bryn "I'm comin' for ya'!," Bryn shouted as she ran after the fleeing Queen-snatcher, crashing forward without pause despite his best attempts to waylay her. "Where's your dragon god now you little...aw no no no don't you dare, don't you loving-!" But she was a step too late, and even as she put on a final burst of speed she watched as the Queen vanished through a portal. Diving forward she grabbed hold of the cultist as he was halfway through, yanking him back against the magical vortex and sending the pair of them tumbling across the ground as the gateway winked out of existence, leaving her with an armful of dragonborn and no Queen in sight. This hadn't, she would have to admit, been her best day ever. She dragged the scrambling cultist back down to the ground, rolling on top of him and pinning him down before punching him in the face. "Where's the Queen!?," she yelled, punching him again, grabbing him by the shoulders and shaking him violently. "Where'd that portal go, huh!? C'mon lizard-dick, make with the magic an' open another one 'fore I use your nutsack as a coin purse!" Instead of attacking (well, instead of rolling an attack let's say) I'll press him for information. Intimidate 1d20+11 = 21
