Honestly, I never noticed how unrealistically the girls in this game are drawn until it was pointed out to me. I guess it was because the game was good enough for me to just overlook. And it helps that the girls are all pretty great characters in their own right, which is a far cry from the first DS. I hated every female in that game except for Haru. I can't think of any girl in this game, or any character for that matter, that I hated more than Cosplay Girl from 1 (though some in this game do come pretty close.)

Honestly, all the female PCs in this game are pretty great. It definitely seems like the developers took a lot of the criticisms of the girls from the first DS and fixed them.

I really like the scene with Dubhe. Unlike the first game, this one starts out with an upbeat intro and a brighter art style to lure you into a false sense of security before all the murder starts.

Drakenel posted:He just gets frozen and shatters? That's all? That's... kind of tame compared to everything leading up to this point. I saw it as actually kinda horrifying. Most SMT games treat the spells as simply attacks that some enemies are weak to and others are immune to. This game actualy reminds the player that Agi and Bufu are actually pretty painful ways to die.

One thing I really like about this game is that each demon has its own unique dialogue when being fused or being used as fusion fodder, and every demon in the auction has a different description for every rank. It's so much better than most SMT games where the demon's dialogue is determined by race or a random personality type.

Feinne posted:Yeah, it's a few edge cases where the powerful enemy is a human or a demon with a normal Race. gently caress the Yamato fight. That's something I'd expect from a Strange Journey boss fight.

I've always really liked Hinako. Despite how she's dressed, she's definitely one of the more mature and level-headed members of the party. Of course, being the best physical attacker doesn't hurt, either.

Hinako's outfit is sensible compared to Zero Escape's "big necklace = shirt" character design.MonsterEnvy posted:She wears that outfit because she really likes getting attention from guys. I think at one point she refuses to change into warmer clothes because otherwise she'd just be "another boring girl with glasses." It should be noted that she says this while at the top of Mt. Fuji. So she would literally rather die than change her clothes. That's some serious dedication.

One thing about the miasmas is that breaking a phone can sometimes earn you a skill. Never a skill that's particularly useful, but it's a pretty cool mechanic.

chiasaur11 posted:So, what's the spoiler policy? Devil Survivor's an interesting case, though. 2 is the former, whereas the first is very much in the latter category. I do find it a bit ironic that, in the middle of LPing the SMT game with the most likeable characters in it, you do a mini LP of the SMT game with the least likeable characters.

Strange Quark posted:Atsuro and Yuzu are pretty alright though? I mean if you want to count everyone else in 1, you'd have to do the same with 2, since everyone just joins your party a whole lot earlier in 2. I was referring more to how the cast of DS1 has the usual mainstream SMT schtick where the main character doing one single action that goes against a party member's agenda, they just completely lose their poo poo. It's definitely one of the bigger flaws in SMT's alignment system.

Just a bit of trivia: while one of the demons you unlock with the Fate system reflect each character's personality, an additional demon corresponds to one of the Chinese Zodiac. I don't remember what Jungo's is but Joe's demon is the Boar.

I gotta say, I like Moloch's Strange Journey design a whole lot more. This version just looks ridiculous.

This Day can be pretty much summed up as "you've earned yourself a breather after having to deal with all that bullshit with Megrez." It's also the last time this game decides to go easy on you, if I recall correctly.

Feinne posted:Honestly once we saved Keita letting anyone else die would be pretty bullshit, because every single other person who can potentially die besides Keita is pretty cool. If it's who I think it is, I've gotta say that's the only person I've never been able to let die.

To any mythology buffs, are the Big Dipper and the akashic record linked in some way? Because this is the second time I've seen the stars of the Big Dipper and the akashic record related to one another in a work of fiction (the second time was Yugioh Zexal, of all places).

I like how the game shows his actions as completely reprehensible by having him kill Makoto, not with magic or with demons, but by just shooting her in the face with a gun.

This seems a lot like counting you chickens before they hatch. It'd make more sense for them to have this discussion after , you know, actually beating the last Septentrionne.

Actually, ever since they realized that these games sell marginally well in the West, they've toned down on YHWH's evilness. Used to be he was a complete and utter rear end in a top hat (or at least his 4 seraphim were). Now he's just another faction you can ally with.

It'll be interesting to see how Yamato decides to throw himself on his sword after we school him since I can't see him going with us either. Yamato subscribes to the Might makes Right school of thought. If he loses, then to him that just means that your way is the right one.

The escort missions wouldn't be so bad if not for the downright suicidal(sometimes literally) NPC AI. Also, while we're harping on DeSu1: "It's loving mistletoe, you pack of imbeciles! Why aren't you fuckers listening to me?!"
