I have no idea but the clippings on Rick's room in Close Rick counters of the Rick Kind seem to suggest he may have had some sort of hand inventing it. Alongside that are pictures of his spaceship, portal gun and Abradolf Lincler but also Dr. Bloom and Zigerions so :shrug:
