Does 2x01 reveal the winner or any spoilers for s1? If not, I might watch the new eps as they air as well rather than catch up in a week or two.

Yes it does since he/she is appearing in season 2.

Ah then I probably know who wins as I've seen the cast list! Hopefully I'll just forget, I'm pretty good at doing that.

Actually even if you saw the cast list you won't know the winner since Two people from season one return.

I think the best way to deal with the Gyul would be if you are wrong, you lose a point and you are out for the rest of that board.

Hong Chul stirring poo poo up and Yoonsun sniffing out the betrayer from a remark most would have missed. drat I love this show. Tough to pick my favorite between those two and Sangrim, hoping all three stick around for a bit yet.

So what exactly is Sangmin's financial situation? Because there are times when he seems pretty hungry for that prize money. Didn't he mention on the show his salary being garnished or something?

About all I could find on his debt was this:

quote:

On the most recent episode of tvN “Star Special Lecture Show,” music producer and entertainer Lee Sang Min talked about the time Baek Ji Young guaranteed his debt. He explained, “When my restaurant business failed, I went from a cash holder of 4.8 billion Korean won (about 4.8 million USD) to having 5.7 billion Korean won (about 5.7 million USD) in debt. Baek Ji Young volunteered to guarantee my debt because I produced ‘I Won’t Love.’”

He continued, “Baek Ji Young didn’t give herself enough time as a guarantor and the debtors started to pressure her to pay back. In the end, Baek Ji Young asked me to nullify her contract with me as a singer and producer, because the pressure got worse and she couldn’t handle it anymore. And yet, I sent her a certification of content proving that she has to release one more album with me before she can nullify her contract.”

Lee Sang Min explained, “At the time, things were difficult. I think I thought of everyone as my enemy unless they were visibly friendly with me. I feel very sorry for Baek Ji Young and would like to apologize.”

and other troubles:

quote:

Last year he was charged for receiving payments after setting up people with loans, and in 2010 he was also under suspicion of managing an illegal gambling website.

That's where I first caught wind of it. Then seeing the season 2 thread pop up is what gave me the push to get into it. I wish there had been an OP for season one because not knowing anything about Korea, I didn't know anything about the people and constantly would be asking myself "which one is the pool player?" "what is Kyungran famous for?" "who is Poong?" etc. The introductions in the first episode were pretty brief too.

I don't think most of us knew about season one until the entire season had been subbed and was pointed out to us in the Korean Thread.

One thing that annoyed me was that Yoonsun choosing Yohwan for the deathmatch was totally dumb, right? On a social level he was pretty much the only person who helped her all episode and ultimately put his fate in her hands, and on a more practical level he had barely any garnets and is pretty much always going to be one of the strongest possible opponents in any conceivable deathmatch because of his skillset

I can't speak for what she was thinking, but if I was in her shoes it would have either been him or Jinho. She doesn't know what game is going to be before choosing and anyone else she could have figured would have a lot more help from the rest of the contestants. If she got into a popularity deathmatch with pretty much anyone else it was over for her, Yohwan was probably the safest choice.

Next week spoilers: Looks like Khet is back. Here's hoping they fixed the issue last time with it!

Honestly that's about the first thing he's done well all season. Although I guess he should get some credit for last week maneuvering to get the immunity.

Don't they earn a lot less in general though? From being a celebrity in Korea I mean
Yes, the huge salary isn't there and there seems to be a lot more hands in the pot too. I may be wrong on the amount but I know Yoo Jae Suk sued one of the stations for back salary early on in his Running Man days and I think the figure was 9k a week for his pay. Between the agencies and everyone else getting a cut, they take home a lot less.

quote:

A representative of Yoo Jae Suk explained, "Last year, Yoo Jae Suk decided to participate in the variety program 'Running Man' with a deal promising 10,000,000 won (approximately $9,050 USD) per episode with SBS. Currently, SBS has yet to pay 118,000,000 won (~ $106,800 USD) won for episodes 1-12." They added, "Last year, SBS promised to deliver the wages, which is why the lawsuit was withdrawn. However, SBS did not keep their word." In response, representatives of SBS stated, "We did not intentionally skip payments for Yoo Jae Suk. They were delayed because there was some confusion over whom to pay the wages to -- his former agency or to Yoo Jae Suk."

Sad to see him go, but I'm not shocked really. Every game he had an angle, so he was bound to get caught one of these times, especially with a smarter cast this time. (Although his choice of partner hosed him over more than anything)

I don't think they will all be scared to face Kyunghoon in a Deathmatch, Kyungran would definitely go after him, probably Dongmin and Hyunmin too.

What's he so famous for, anyway? I know he's a "broadcaster," but in Korea that can mean just about anything.

He's just one of their most famous MC's, whose been around for quite a while. Right around the time of the Genius he was just coming back into the industry after leaving for a year because of some comments he made.

In the hierarchy of Korean MC's you've got Yoo Jae Suk (dunno if you've ever seen Running Man or Infinite Challenge)at the top pretty much by himself. Then you have people like Kang Hodong, Park Myungsoo in tier 2, Gura probably fits into this tier or maybe slightly below.

Question: Isn't gambling illegal in South Korea? How exactly does one become a professional poker player under those circumstances?

I know there are some casinos there that foreigners only are allowed to enter. I think there is one that Koreans can use, but it's not by a major city center. As far as poker, you aren't that far away from Macau or various other casinos in the region.
