The rest of FMP that's in Heaven is mostly un-wacky. It's a lot of mythological stuff that has to do with the true nature of the Whispered, and a lot of fun stuff around the weirdness of the central relationship (spoilers: it's Kaname). The Z3 version specifically also has Sousuke telling a villian "Do you seriously think I'm trying to reach an understanding with you? Do I look like I'm in a Gundam to you?"

That sounds pretty decent actually.
TBH, my biggest issue is that Kurz Weber is insufferable and ruins every scene he touches. :shobon:

The inclusion of FMP into Z3 is kind of counter-balanced with how amazingly bland the animations were though. Not full on :effort: like the Endless Waltz crew, but that's not really saying much.

MX was a pretty odd game in general, with a lot of unique decisions made, such as the EVA-03 being playable for I believe the only time ever
EVA-03 is a secret in Alpha 1. The problem is that it's on a route split (a path that leads to bunch of Dunbine secrets like Todd and Night Camo Bilbine) and has you missing more useful/fun stuff like Bernie, the Sazabi, the Gundam F90V (in its only SRW appearance) and Levi Tolar.

Anyhew, congrats on completing the best ending! I am also puzzled as to why the normal ending has an exclusive scene that technically works just as well with the best ending as well. Maybe it was going to be part of the best ending and just wasn't added in time? I am looking forward to the rest of Z1, especially the Special Disk content and the fun stuff it has.

I think the most telling thing is that the best thing in Z3 Heaven, apart from finally getting to see the rest of FMP, was just a callback to Z1.

What's the callback, out of curiosity?

By "best," I mean it's a plot point/spoiler, if that wasn't really clear. I would post it in spoils right now but it's one of the things Bruno and I have been talking about, so I'll hold onto it for now.

That may be enough for people who already know the event I'm talking about to identify it, if they haven't already.

If you're really sure, maybe ask in SRW General, which as far as I can tell is this thread's spoiler zone right now. Or I can explain it privately.

I have to say though, if you are intending to play Z3, it is one of the few really nice moments in it and I hope you'd be really sure you're never just going to read it yourself. My point was just that Z3 really only reaches those heights when it's invoking stuff we're already invested in, and Z1 in specific.

Congratulations on finishing the game, you two!
I kinda wish there were a game, or maybe just a manga, showing a little of what happened after the ending. Part of me thinks that Mars, once the Meganoid situation is sorted out, would be the best option for the S-1 population, assuming Planetary Lord Banjou allowed it.

I admit that I have no particularly strong desire to see an LP of Z2-2 or the Z3's. They'd be nice and all, but eh.

What I would like to see is one of Alpha, we have Alpha gaiden done already and it really seems like it's the game that marks the series becoming what it is today.

Unlike Z2, I have no way of playing Z3 at present, so I, for one, would like to see it, if only because their version of the end of Gurren Lagann looks pretty amazing but I can't read all the kanji. I mean, I could wait until I can emulate it, but the only likely source for a plot synopsis/translation would be... MNeidengard. Ugh. I don't know if I can take another two games' worth of his lovely "jokes" and bad romanization. I wouldn't ask Bruno or Doc specifically to do it, but I hope somebody does, just to spare me the pain of GameFAQs.

But yes, the rest of the Alpha series would also be nice, since Aeon Genesis is apparently never getting around to translating it.

PS: Also thanks again to Doc for making Setsuko's route readable for me, and to Bruno for making it so I can replay Rand's route without ever needing to go to GameFAQs ever again.

Ask me about being the best dad ever.
And we’re back on the post-mission 47 interlude: Talia was considerably dumber on this side, leading us into the Zaft route of things.
This’ll focus solely on the unique storyline bits for this side – gameplay’ll be omitted and anything that also happens in the ZEUTH route will merely be referenced to.

Off we go!

Outside Trinity City…

: (Shinn…)
: (Camille… guys…)
: Engage the engines. We’ll ascend into space and rendezvous with Zaft’s main fleet.
: Roger. Minerva, launching!

: And off they go…
: They’ve made their choice. We cannot stop that.
: But this might mean we’ll end up facing each other…
: We can only hope that our suspicions towards the Chairman are unfounded.
: And, now, we must depart to the Moon sans the Minerva’s forces.
: The Moon… foothold of Logos and the Skull Moon Alliance… we can’t afford to delay this any longer.
: We must strike them down before things get completely out of hand...

Back inside, Heizaemon explains our decision to Tsukikage based on what we saw from Operation Earth Flood: the aliens are very likely preparing a large-scale operation in the interest of bringing this conflict to a definitive end and we’re going to take them out before it happens.
When Bright asks, Tsukikage says he couldn’t get a whole lot of information from Aphrodia and Teral, so we’ll be flying in blind (as in the other path, they simply have no idea what the alien commanders have planned).
This is likely to be a tough fight, which is why we’re hoping to try and catch them in a surprise attack, sowing chaos across their troops before they can even mobilize them. If we can take out their leadership amidst that, things’ll be much easier to clean up.
The Trinity City folks will help us in any way they can while the Iron Gear and Freeden will keep on searching for the OverDevil and Great Singularity.
When Shaia asks, Tsukikage says Teral has agreed to cooperate with us while Aphrodia is still an unknown – regardless, they’ve both been given permission to wander around (with some supervision, of course) and Quinstein figures they must be with the ZEUTH members.

Indeed, Teral is speaking with Toshiya and learning of our imminent attack on the moon. He’s not happy but, regardless, knows he can’t condone the current state of the Eldar.
He doesn’t mean just Gagarn’s methods, mind, as he’s come to ponder that this entire war may have been a mistake. This gives Julie an opportunity to try and ask him why the Eldar knew of the Trinity Energy and were trying to seize it… before Teral can say anything, Professor Wily comes over and tells him not to listen.
Jane tries protesting that Teral’s an ally but Kazami counters that it could all be part of a plan against us. Kouzuki and Michi argue that Teral’s not the kind of man to resort to such tricks, having come to know the guy after all this time.

Kazami sniffs that Teral’s sweet talk has blinded the kids and quickly calls the God Sigma team back to the King Beal to service their bot.
Like before, he’ll be coming with us as he doesn’t care that Tsukikage and Quinstein have pretty much taken Trinity City over and, either way, his research is almost bearing fruit so he doesn’t need to be picky of where he’s working.
The team agrees and sets off with Kazami, bidding farewell to Jane and Teral. Inwardly, Teral figures telling Toshiya and co. about Earth and Eldar’s future would probably only bear unnecessary doubt within them – he’ll tell them everything once Gagarn’s dealt with.

Kouzuki and Michi try comforting Teral, telling him not to mind what Kazami said – he’s probably just stressed since his research is almost finished. Teral thanks them, saying it’s enough that they can bring themselves to trust him
Kouzuki’s a bit bashful at the praise from someone as pretty as Teral and Kappei quickly prods him about it, prompting Kouzuki to yell for him to go and prepare to head into space – Kappei doesn’t need the reminder as he’s already hyped to deal with the aliens once and for all.
The Elements are observing, and Pierre can see why Teral’s looks got that reaction out of Kouzuki. Uchuuta protests that Teral’s a guy but Rand asks if he could say with 100% certainty that he wouldn’t flush even a bit in that situation (he can’t).
Tsugumi admits that the guy’s good-looking to the point of making her heart skip a beat sometimes and Sirius concedes that the word “beautiful” fits him to a T.

Nearby, Setsuko has recovered her eyesight and there’ve been no issues since the last battle – looks like it’s a transient thing. Regardless, if the Sphere’s going to drain her life and turn her into something inhuman, she only wants to hold on long enough to end this fighting.
Keiko notices her pouting and asks what’s up, prompting Setsuko to change the subject to Kappei and Kouzuki.
Mel’s glad to see that Kappei’s made up with his friends and Rand’s heard from Toshiya and Banjou about their history. Keiko’s also surprised with how Kouzuki’s become such good friends with an alien like Teral but that’s to be expected since he owes his life to the guy, Uchuuta figures.
Ichitaro does raise the point that there are still those who’d treat Teral with suspicion, like Kazami. Reika sees that people from the Jin Family’s world seem to be quite wary of what they don’t understand and Ichitaro explains that one theory is that this stems from the long history of distrust between Naturals and Coordinators.

Sounds real petty considering the world we live in, and this conversation makes Sirius and Silvia start pondering humans, non-humans and their own Fallen Angel blood… and what would happen if everyone found out about it.
Apollo’s not telling anyone, though, and calls them both to quit mulling and psych themselves up to deal with the alien bosses. Neither sibling expected him to be worrying about them but, regardless, Apollo asks about Marin.
He’s looking at the ocean, like always, and both Mel and Setsuko wonder if it reminds him of home.

: …
: …
: …It’s beautiful…
: Hm… the very nature we lost in S-1 is still here, on Earth.
: Has Prof. Quinstein told you about the relation between Earth and our world?
: …She did…
: Aphrodia… I’m going with them.
: While stopping Operation Earth Flood may have prevented this world from outright becoming S-1, it’s possible that these ongoing battles may lead to all this beautiful nature being lost and sending Earth down a similar path.
: Marin…
: I’ve no more to say but I’m sure these beautiful waters will tell you something.
: We’ll meet again, Aphrodia. And, when we do, I’d like to speak to you.
: So, please, gaze into this ocean and ask yourself once more: “What can I do? What should I do?”
: Very well…
: Until then.

*Marin leaves.*

: …
: …Don’t die out there, Marin…

Mission 48 (Zaft Route) – Traitorous Moonlight

Rand and Mel have arrived on the Moon for the very first time but the place is a lot drearier than he expected. Setsuko’s also back after all this time and, unlike last time, Denzel and Toby aren’t with her anymore – regardless, it falls on her to take their pride to heart and keep on fighting.
Especially strange to everyone is the aurora-like effect spreading throughout space but, as before, that’s an effect of the two Breaks and the distortions they created in the dimensional walls.
Either way, we’re 100km away from the Skull Moon Base and our plan is to keep hidden as much as possible before initiating our attack. The showdown approaches and Kappei can’t wait to see their surprise, though Duke warns that we mustn’t get careless as we don’t know the full extent of their forces.
Which is exactly why Garrod wants us to make the first move: we get in just a bit closer and we can level all their mooks with the GX and DX’s Satellite Cannons. (Wait, you mean we could’ve done that instead of dealing with Suped-up Cosmosauruses?!)

Renton notices how gung-ho his buddy is and Gainer knows why: once the aliens are dealt with, our next target is Logos which means rescuing Tifa. The Freeden’s Sara has come along to stay close to Jamil and admonishes Garrod from losing focus on his mission and he understands (can’t rescue Tifa if he gets shot down here).
Heizaemon orders our troops forward but…

Surprise! We’re the ones getting ambushed!
Seems like the aliens knew of our surprise attack but, of course, Dalton won’t answer Toshiya on how they got that intel. The enemies have us surrounded from all sides and Dalton laughs at this wasteland being our grave.

Mission Objective: Shoot down the Eldar battleship.
Mission Failure: Any ally battleship shot down
Skill Point: Destroy all enemies, Dalton last, within 4 turns.
Not a difficult point if you spread your troops nicely. Send Heizaemon to give that nice boost against the Gaizock troops and see if you can’t have your speedier units go for the Vegan mooks – once they’re down, they can converge on the Eldar side.
The Aldebaron units are hardier and have two ships, so send some more units up there.

Pre-battle lines:

: What a shame, isn’t it, Duke Fleed? You were so eager to march onto the Moon and now your whole plan’s fallen apart!
: Urgh…! What happened? How were they aware of our plans?!

: Grrr! You’re gonna pay for mucking up our showdown with the aliens!
: Ahahaha! Throwing tantrums now, are we? Let’s see if I can’t change your angry yells into screams!
: drat IT! How did they know of our surprise attack?!

: Ah, the S-1-ian traitor! I’m sure the news of your defeat will be music to Commandant Gattler’s ears!
: I… We can’t afford to die in a place like this!
: Do you hear me, Gattler?! Someday, I will crush you and save the S-1 people!

: Our sneak attack might’ve failed but we’re not ones to turn tail and run! Bring it on!
: How very impressive. Now, I will personally turn the surface of this Moon into your private graveyard!

: Get out of our way! We’re gonna tear down that Skull Moon Base and your bosses with it!
: Hmhmhm… you’d best take a look at reality. You’ll never lay eyes onto the Skull Moon Base because you’ll die at my hand!
: We will not be deterred…! Our final battle with the aliens is right around the corner!
: And that means we’ll have to walk all over you to get to it!

Fast forward to turn four, everything’s dead…

These “cornered rats” are putting a bigger fight than Dalton expected and just as Gengoroh orders the Beal to finish him off, the Charisma intrudes by blowing up the Ion Engine, having sneaked aboard the ship in Trinity City.
It was Kazami who passed the info on our attack. He does his betrayal and runs off with Dalton, back to the Skull Moon base to speak with Gagarn.

As we try to figure out what just happened, a mob of Zaft troops appears with Yzak in command and he’s under orders to make us surrender come with them.
Durandal’s out to strike against Logos, the Federation and the aliens (for peace and all that) and he’s decided that he wants to add our forces to his own – just like when he tried to buy us from the Emaanians (Yzak does apologize for his attack back then, as it was borne of misinformation).
Now that the true enemy’s clear, Durandal wants to formally invite us to join Zaft… and if we refuse, Yzak is under orders to suppress us. This strikes our people as crazy, considering our independence from Zaft never meant that we were hostile to them.

Regardless, Yzak says we can’t be allowed to roam loose with that much firepower under our control – sounds like an incredibly simplistic train-of-thought to Gain. Roger isn’t about to put up with these unfair “negotiations” and Heizaemon tells Yzak to run off.
Without a choice, Yzak orders his group to attack and Sirius shakes his head as humanity’s foolish infighting only serving to help the cause of the Fallen Angels and aliens. We gotta fight back but that doesn’t mean we need to go all-out against them: just take Yzak down and we can avoid protracting this pointless battle, Gengoroh says.

:siren: Ending Point Alert! :siren:
As Gengoroh said, don’t destroy all Zaft units. If all enemies are down when Yzak gets destroyed, you’ll LOSE an Ending Point.

Once Yzak gets into battle or enough mooks are downed, the plot kicks in once more.

A battleship is detected entering the area but it’s not a Zaft reinforcement – it’s the Archangel team, having also flown up to space.
As in the other path, they’re here to support us not out of compensation for our help in Orb but because our objectives align and, as before, Setsuko’s people aren’t very friendly to them. Quattro tells them to shush and accept the help which our people begrudgingly do (though Tetsuya’s ready to put them down if they try anything funny).
Yzak also has orders to take Athrun and Kira out but he’d rather them surrender peacefully, making Athrun ask if he’s also lost sight of what’s right. Yzak fires back, asking if he’s implying that justice lies with the Archangel and ZEUTH’s uncontrolled battles.
If Athrun’s betrayed the Chairman’s trust and sided against Plants, then he’ll readily fight back.
Kira tells Athrun not to give up on talking with Yzak, though, and to keep at it – we’re bound to be stuck in this cycle of hostilities unless we can learn to convey what we think to one another with words.

:siren: Secret Alert! :siren:
What Kira means is that, if you want to recruit Yzak on the Zaft route, you’ll also need to have Athrun convince him on this stage (on top of everything else that we did on the ZEUTH route).

: Stop this, Yzak! We’re not the Plants’ enemies!
: You dare say that after everything that’s happened? After you betrayed the Chairman?!
: What made you do that?! Was that “Lacus Clyne’s double” trick so unforgivable to you?!
: No, it’s not about that! The Chairman simply won’t tolerate anyone who won’t bend to his will! His methods are too dangerous!
: Take a look at how he’s trying to get rid of ZEUTH! Don’t you see that that’s exactly what I’m talking about?!
: I won’t lay down my weapons over such vague reasons! Think, Athrun! Is this really the time for us to be fighting?!
: Yzak… I guess there’s nothing more I can say to you right now…
: Still, I will keep doing what I believe is right and if that means I have to fight against you, so be it!
: If you’re that set on your ways, then come! I won’t hold anything back either!

Pre-battle lines:

: Not bad…! This pilot knows her stuff!
: Please, stop! Continuing this battle will only help the aliens!
: And that’s exactly why the Chairman’s trying to unite mankind! You won’t interfere!

: Step up, Mr. Zaft Commander! We’ll be going right outta here once you’re dust!
: Let’s see you try! You’re making a big mistake by underestimating Yzak Joule!
: (Hang in there, Tifa…! I promise I’ll be coming to get you…!)

: What vigor… this is no ordinary man!
: Your skills are excellent but you still lack the experience to go up against a veteran of the previous war!

: If anything, this commander’s worthy of his station…! He’s not a foe to be taken lightly!
: I didn’t change from the red coat to this white one for nothing! This commander will show his men how it’s done!

: Urk! He’s reading me like a book! Who the hell is this guy?!
: His attacks are bold… but that’s what makes them predictable! I just need to outmaneuver them!
: Looks like I’m dealing with another world’s Ace! He’s certainly a worthy opponent!

: The Freedom! It really is you piloting that, isn’t it, Kira?!
: Yzak…! You—
: Why are you spreading mayhem across the world?! We fought together and I still have no idea what you’re up to!
: But if you’re not willing to listen to us, then we can only fight…!
: I…I may not like this, but I’ll still keep moving forward!

: Athrun…! This is what you deserve for betraying ours and the Chairman’s trust!
: I’m simply doing what I think is right, Yzak! And even if you’re the enemy, I will not stop!

And then Roger punches him for 21k damage.

Of course, Yzak’s not going to throw in the towel but he’s quickly recalled by Dearka informing that “those colonies” are displaying some strange movements.
They don’t know what’s happening but at first glance, those movements appear to be something like course corrections. Yzak smells Logos at work and they’ve been ordered to reorganize and attack their base before anything happens.
Yzak and co. run off, with him promising to hunt ZEUTH, Athrun and Kira down so long as they continue to sow chaos across the world. Kappei doesn’t appreciate him treating us like we’re the bad guys and Holland sighs at Zaft’s “if you’re not with us, you’re against us” policy.
Regardless, today’s engagement proves that they’ve set us as targets which means Zaft is now a new addition to our kill list.

There’s still the matter of the Archangel and, despite our common goals, our people have a hard time forgiving and forgetting like before. Kira and Harry’s talk is the same as before, as is his conviction to keep going despite any hatred he might earn.
Setsuko and Rand speak up first, wanting to hear more of their side of the story in order to understand what’s pushed them down this path. Kira himself said just now that you should try everything you can to convey your thoughts with words, so he should apply that same theory to us - especially considering they helped the non-Argama side of ZEUTH before.
Heizaemon agrees to hear them out as understanding each other is the first step towards preventing past mistakes from coming back for another round. Some of the more hot-headed people aren’t happy but Banjou agrees as picking a fight with other humans when we’re about to fight the aliens is so very idiotic.
Of course, Zaft pretty much did that and tagged us all as enemies which, Amuro figures, is more reason why we should try to reach an agreement and work together.

Aboard the Argama, Murrue explains their suspicions of Durandal, the Coordinators attempted assassination of Lacus and their lack of evidence to support their claims.
The convo is pretty much the same as 51 ZEUTH, sans Haman, and the teams agree to ignore whatever happened in the past in the interest of working for our current common goal.
Regardless, since we currently don’t know what Durandal’s endgame is, Quattro says shifting our sights to Zaft wouldn’t be a good idea and considering that the Aprillius Allied Army is now focusing on defeating Logos, Jamil figures we can afford to leave them be for now.
The bigger problem is Kazami who’s taken away our element of surprise and brought all that info on our team to the aliens, making our eventual battle all the more difficult. The infighting between the Spacenoids, Logos and Feds will give them a good opportunity to act, too, and Heizaemon fears we won’t be able to win if all those groups keep ignoring this in favor of their individual squabbles.

Over by the hangar, Athrun’s being informed of the Minerva’s return to Zaft and Camille worries that this’ll culminate with us having to fight against Shinn and the others.
Athrun figures there isn’t anything we could do, seeing as how this was the Minerva and crew’s own choice, but Eiji doesn’t think he should just let this matter be, especially considering how he and Shinn used to work together.
Athrun has come to a realization after fighting as Zaft, ZEUTH and going up against Kira: everyone has their own notions of what’s “right”. There are folks on all sides that believe justice lies with their cause and if that’s the case with the Minerva team, we’ll have no choice but to fight.
“Still, Shinn’s like how I used to be… he’s not sure of what he should believe in, so he clings to whatever he’s got.”, Athrun ponders. He may be regressing to that state where the Chairman’s approval is all the validation he needs to his actions.

Yes, Camille set him straight the last time he was like that but many things have happened since then, what with Stella’s death, the events at Orb and whatnot.
Athrun’s head of how Shinn joined Zaft as a way to escape the lingering pain he felt from the scars left by the last war and Harry figures he’ll never be free unless he can overcome that pain. Hell, Durandal may know about all of his issues and approached Shinn after seeing that he’d be someone easy to manipulate.
Kira’s certainly not willing to forgive the Chairman if that’s, indeed, the crux of his interest in Shinn. Cue the introduction from 51 ZEUTH and his convo with Camille.

: All this time I’ve been running away…
: I didn’t target the enemy’s cockpits or their energy cores but, as I kept on fighting, people were still getting hurt… and I kept facing away from that fact.
: …Such is war. And while I don’t mean to use that as justification for it all, there’s no other way to describe it.
: I agree but I don’t think those words alone make me worthy of forgiveness or even give me the right to ask for it…
: Still, I won’t stop, even if I end up hurting people… because this is the battle I chose to fight.
: I’ll press onwards, bearing the anger and the hatred of all those people within me.
: That’s the answer you found, hm?
: Yes.
: It’s up to you to decide what you deem right and wrong. Nevertheless, I believe we can fight together now, Kira Yamato.
: Thank you.
: I want you to tell Shinn what you said just now.
: Shinn Asuka… that’s the pilot of the Impulse, yes?
: I think he’s still unsure of what he’s doing now. So, I think it’d do him good to talk with you now that you’ve managed to find that answer.
: I understand, Camille. I wish to speak to him as well.
: (Shinn… I’m back with ZEUTH… next time we meet, it’ll probably be in battle, right…?)
: (I want to talk and help you and Rey understand what I’ve obtained. )

Banjou and Neo are talking in the sidelines, and Neo’s fully recovered now. When Gavane asks, Banjou explains who the guy is, how Logos manipulated his memories and how he’s brought him over to the Archangel after the Chiram battle (old Muu data and whatnot).
Neo asks about Shinn and is disappointed to see that he’s gone – he had hoped to see him again by joining up with ZEUTH but it looks like he’s lost his chance.

Finally, this mission ends with the scenes from the end of ZEUTH 52, aboard the King Beal, regarding Kazami’s betrayal and how we need to deal with him if we're to stand a chance against the aliens, but that's put on hold once we get news of Zaft’s failed attack and Logos firing the REQUIEM from the start of ZEUTH 50.
The only difference is that it’s Henken accompanying Lacus by the laser-bending colonies but everything’s pretty much the same

Yeah Talia, way less cool here.

So yeah, the main thing is other then a few unique scenes like the extra Yzak stuff most of it is just reordered.,

Ask me about being the best dad ever.

This mission starts like 52, with Tifa talking to D.O.M.E. and Djibril throwing a hissy fit that Aprillius didn’t get destroyed by REQUIEM.
Bros need time to get more gas revenge preparations underway.

Likewise, the following scene with Durandal and Haman is the same as 50 at first: loads dead in the Plant colonies, Durandal is moving Messiah up front to draw Djibril’s eye and, if he wins, he’ll get that Destiny Plan party started.
The changes start rolling then with Haman saying she’ll have Zaidel use a certain something as a countermeasure to their REQUIEM problem for the time being and asks that Durandal leave her to deal with ZEUTH.
Durandal’s surprised that she’d take to the field herself but Haman says there’s a foe she needs to face in person and takes off. “She’s yet another human bound by love and hatred. So long as people are incapable of extricating themselves from such things, the battles will continue.”, Durandal ponders to an uncertain-looking Talia and it’s for this reason that he must take action.
Durandal sends Meer to Copernicus, assigning the Minerva to be her escorts and, inwardly, tells Talia that, once everything’s finished, he’ll take the reins over that which they couldn’t overcome themselves: Destiny. With that, he’ll secure eternal prosperity to all of mankind.

Location: L2 Sector

Our people have heard of REQUIEM’s attack and the casualties resulted of it, as well as the way Logos managed to curve that beam to find its target (according to Henken’s intel).
Harry and Jamil figure they must’ve used mind control to force Tifa to tap into D.O.M.E.’s energy supply as fuel for that a weapon. Attacking the place willy-nilly is dangerous as the aliens could intervene (especially now that they have Kazami’s data) but we can’t just sit around.
So, as in 51, we’ll be going after the relay station Logos used to bend the beam: take it out and TEMPORARILY disrupt their shots. Still, if it’ll delay Logos’ strategy even a little, Kira figures we’ve a responsibility to get it done.

Apolly and Roberto are rather surprised at the kid’s clear-headedness - he doesn’t feel like a regular Ace pilot – and Amuro chalks it up to him being an admiral in Orb (technically speaking, Kira’s the highest ranking soldier in ZEUTH).
Impressive for such a young man and Roberto figures, just like in Zeon, results will quickly propel you to the top in Orb’s military. Amuro says that if you ask Kira, though, he’ll just say it’s because of Cagalli being his sister, so he’d rather we pay no mind to his rank.
Kira overhears a bit but, when asked, Amuro says they’re just gossiping. Inwardly, though, he can see the sorrow hiding in Kira’s eyes and figures his past also weighs heavily on him – more so than we can tell by just looking at his face.

Mission 49 (Zaft Route) – Light of Despair, Glimmer of Hope

The Titans are hard at work keeping anyone from touching the relay station – only Lacus and Henken’s ships remain, having lost their MS troops.
Waltfeld wants Henken to run while the Eternal keeps the enemies pinned as their ship should be capable of giving these guys the slip when the Raddish has gotten to safety.
Henken isn’t about to take that risk, though, and figures they can get through this together – ZEUTH should be here soon, so they just need to hold out until then. Meyrin’s also take the job as the ship’s Operator, determined to do her part for the sake of both Earth and the Plants.

Henken’s Raddish a wee bit bulkier than in the Gibraltar route but you only need to hold on for two turns and both ships have enough Iron Wall casts to stay alive that long.

Pre-battle lines:

: Many of the AEUG’s members are Spacenoids.
: While we may have split with Zaft, that does not mean we’ll ignore a weapon made to destroy Colonies!

: If we leave that facility intact, it’ll mean an even greater danger to the Plants!
: Exactly! And that’s why a small numerical advantage won’t make us flinch!

Two turns later…

: Rrrgh, they’re stubborn like cockroaches! Give up already!
: We have something to defend – that’s what drives us in battle.
: And so long as those feelings lie with us, we will not yield against any force.
: They’re here! It’s ZEUTH!

: Are you alright, Lacus?!
: Yes, Kira. Both we and Cpt. Henken are well.
: We’ve been waiting for you guys!
: Meyrin?! You’re on that pink battleship?!
: I’m the Eternal’s operator now.
: All troops, launch! Provide support to those two ships and destroy the relay station!
: Wait! I’m detecting a VERY large energy signature coming from the opposing direction!
: Is it another beam from the Moon?!
: No, the direction is different but it’s headed straight this way!
: All ships, emergency evac! You too, Raddish and Eternal! Quickly!!

: Hmph. Running off like dogs, are we, ZEUTH?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsNKq8Aaiy4

: THIS— THIS CAN’T BE!!

…Whoops.

Henken tells us that what destroyed the relay station is a weapon called Colony Laser – the empty shell of a space colony that’s been transformed into a weapon of mass destruction.
It looks nothing like a Zaft weapon, Waltfeld thinks, and from what Pala had gathered, this one belongs to the Space Revolutionary Army. It’s quite the trump card for the Aprillius Allied Army and now we have super weapons on each side.
Henken sighs, saying they oughta point those guns towards the aliens if they wanna make a show of strength. Bright figures the Allied Army used that weapon on the relay station merely in self-defense against REQUIEM but it’s only a matter of time before they aim it at the Moon or, worse, at Earth itself.
The meeting’s interrupted when Miriallia comes in with a message from Wong to Quattro: Haman wants a meeting with the AEUG and ZEUTH.

Location: Near the Colony Laser

We can’t really fathom what Haman has in mind requesting this meeting but we also can’t afford to refuse someone who’s seemingly intent on parleying.
Sara smells a trap, though, especially with the fact that she wanted the meeting with Quattro and the captains to take place aboard her ship, but Gainer doesn’t think they’d jump straight into this without thinking – at least Kira and Athrun, ever the enhanced Coordinators, have gone with them for some added security.
Jiron figures him and Fatman should’ve gone as bodyguards, too, but Roger says the two of them wouldn’t exactly fit in with this meeting of leaders… which makes Rag ask what he’s doing here. Shouldn’t he be out there with them, negotiating on our behalf?

Roger says no, since this meeting is no place for a fair negotiation to occur. Mind, he’s not yet saying that it’s a trap but he’s certain the other side’s up to something – they wouldn’t have called us all the way to their Colony Laser otherwise.
Of course, he’s got no clue what Haman’s angle is, so we can only wait for Quattro and the others to return.
Nearby, Amuro’s ill at ease – he feels as if Haman’s pressure could envelop them all. The best he can do is count on Quattro to see us through this as he’s long since stopped being “just a pilot”.

In the Gwadan’s conference room, Haman bids welcome to all her guests and formally introduces herself as Mineva Zabi’s regent.
Heizaemon is quietly surprised that the leader of such a powerful organization is this young lady and Bright also didn’t expect to see Wong hanging out with Axis. As before, he slipped into their side to protect himself after Brex’ assassination and while he doesn’t know if Durandal was behind it, he shares the AEUG’s former leader’s doubts about the guy.
Quattro asks why he wanted to mediate these talks between us and Axis but Haman cuts him off, asking that he direct his questions to her. As before, she quickly reveals Quattro’s true identity to us.

Quattro asks her to get to the point and she does: “Give me access to ZEUTH’s firepower”, is what’s up. Holland asks if the Allied Army’s trying to talk us into joining now that their previous attempt at suppressing us failed but, no, Haman says that was Zaft’s doing and has nothing to do with her.
Indeed, Durandal has no idea that this meeting’s taking place and Quattro asks if she’s suggesting that Axis break away from the Allied Army and join forces with us.

Haman sees Durandal to be a bigger threat than even the corrupt Federation, to say nothing of the fact that she’s fed up with listening to Zaidel prattle on about the Newtype Theory.
There’s the same convo from ZEUTH’s 51 regarding the Newtype Theory and how Haman despises Zaidel for using it as a tool to leverage his own influence and she offers Axis’ strength against Durandal and Zaidel if we agree to surrender ourselves to her command.

“…And if we refuse your request?”, Quattro asks. “Then you’ll have made an enemy out of me. I can afford to deal with Durandal after the New Federation’s finished.”, she replies.
Holland doesn’t care for her “puppetmaster” shtick but she tells him to snarl all he wants: what she does, she does for humanity. Kira and Athrun see that she has her own ideas for what’s the right thing to do and just looking into her eyes tells them that no one’s words will shake her iron will.

: …
: Relax. Even should you choose to decline my offer, I swear that you’ll be allowed to leave the Gwadan.
: …
: Let’s hear your decision, Char. Will you stand with me or against me?
: You handle this, Quattro.
: …
: None of us have a read on her true goals. So ZEUTH will defer to your choice on this matter.
: …
: Lt., Amuro asked me to tell you something.
: Amuro?
: It seems he anticipated this would happen. “I look forward to hearing Quattro Bajeena’s – not Char Aznable’s – choice.”, is he said.
: “Quattro Bajeena’s choice…”
: Your answer, Char?
: I…

Quattro’s decided against Haman’s offer and Emma sees that, regardless of all the help she could be against the Allied Army, he just couldn’t bring himself to accept that bargain.
No one seems to have an issue with his decision, Amuro sees, and hearing that eases Quattro’s consciousness a bit. But now he has a job to do as Quattro Bajeena – this world does not need the son of Zeon Zum Deikun.
Henken’s surprised that Haman actually made good on her promise to allow us back to our ships and Wong has no idea what she’s thinking: he absolutely expected her to try to kill us once we turned her down.
Bright’s just about to order the ships to leave the area when Torres detects movement from the Axis troops.

The Gwadan deploys troops and a bevy of revolutionaries show up right after. Lancerow isn’t happy that Haman’s private meeting with ZEUTH ultimately ended with her attacking us and she apologizes, saying this is because she wasn’t strong enough to convince us.
Jamil quickly recognizes his old rival from 15 years ago and Holland isn’t happy that her promise extended only to letting us leave the Gwadan but not to actually letting us leave HERE.
Everyone deploys and Garrod and Pala have something in mind, deploying by themselves, while Fa and Camille go over the Zeta’s newly equipped parts (same as 51). We have to deal both with Axis troops and the revolutionaries protecting the Colony Laser and Apollo sees an opportunity in this: we can beat both sides and wreck the thing while we’re at it.

There’re a lot of troops in the area (a suitable escort from the Aprillius’ Army’s trump card, Athrun figures), though, so Bright tells us to focus only on clearing the current attackers – we’ll worry about the Colony Laser later.
Runa’s a bit miffed, considering how close we are to the thing, but Mizuki figures it’d be difficult to approach it with all the defending revolutionaries breathing down our neck.
Inwardly, Quattro wonders why Haman allowed us to leave if she was just going to attack us anyway.

Mission Objective: Shoot down all units (the Axis troops will retreat once the Gwadan goes under 50% HP or is shot down)
Mission Failure: Any allied battleship, Garrod or Pala shot down
Skill Point: Destroy all enemies within 6 turns.
Not a difficult point: we’ve a bunch of revolutionaries to the west (Lancerow will make a beeline for Jamil’s squad, if he’s deployed), Axis troops to the north and more enemies will be showing up from the south.
Send a handful of units up top to kill whatever they can before working on the Gwadan when the timer draws short, while everyone else hangs around southwest (you’ll want to keep them close-ish to intercept the new arrivals).

Vs. Lancerow:

: Is it you, Lancerow Dawell?
: So, that sensation I had in Orb really was you, Jamil Neate!
: We both saw time, didn’t we?! Then, why are you making the same mistakes?!
: Let this conflict continue as is and all you’ll accomplish is reviving the nightmare of 15 years ago!
: We have no choice…! The Colony Laser must be used if we’re to prevail against the New Federation!
: Don’t you see that this’ll lead us down a path where there’s no going back, Lancerow?!

: So what you’re Jamil’s old rival – ya ain’t scaring me!
: The way this boy fights… it’s just like Jamil…
: That’s ‘cuz of all the work I did with him! Here’s what I learned!
: You were trained by him, hm…? Then, let’s see what you’ve got!

Vs Gwadan:

: I feel some pressure coming from that ship… is it Haman Karn?
: You can sense me, boy? You’re rather talented, I see.
: What are you thinking?! What’s the point in pushing this battle along?!
: If humanity’s to have a future, the scum that corrupts it must be removed first. THAT is the point of this.
: Can’t you see all the lives that’ll be lost while you’re doing that?!
: How disappointing… a prodigy you may be, but you’ve let morons poison your mind.
: Then, as a favor, I’ll end your life right now.

: Why were you dealing with both us and the Allied Army, Haman? What are you planning?
: My thoughts already lie beyond this war and, so, I’m making preparations.
: Come with me, Char. Your power’ll also be needed.
: You’re asking me, personally…?
: The two of us, together, can show the way to society.
: Any future imagined by someone who can’t see the crisis that’s unfolding before her eyes would be no more than an illusion!
: Wake up, Haman! This isn’t the place for us to be having this dispute!
: What a fine speech…! That’s the answer you found in this world?
: Those scum have corrupted you as well! I was a fool to think I could rely on you!
: The fact that that’s the only thing you’ve taken from my words shows how you cannot be entrusted with leading society! Make way, Haman Karn!

We also missed these two “vs. Reccoa” convos when we did ZEUTH’s 51:

: You've grown a lot, Setsuko.
: 2nd. Lt. Reccoa... but why?
: I've found something, just like you have your pride of the Glory Star.
: I'm fulfilled now, as a woman... and that's why I fight!
: I don't care about men and women, but I don't want to have to fight you like this!

: 2nd. Lt. Reccoa, what's the matter with you?!
: You tried so hard to be a good soldier after you defected to the AEUG...
: But that'll just make you a woman who does whatever the men want!
: I'm fighting of my own free will! For my own goals, not for anyone else!
: I was wrong, 1st. Lt. Emma... you're a strong person...
: But I'm a woman!

Fast forward…[/i]

A bunch of Fed units approach quickly and Banjou figures they’re trying to piggyback off this battle in order to destroy the Colony Laser. Schlan is also present and says that, in truth, their mission is just to destroy us.
Gain is amused that they’d prioritize us over that huge gun but, indeed, they consider us the bigger threat. As in ZEUTH 51, Yazan and Reccoa are also present and their convo is pretty much the same (Camille and Quattro also sense her).

Garrod and Pala are worried that we’ll get overwhelmed from all sides and he moves to cut us some slack by taking out one of the leaders. Despite Jamil’s warnings, Garrod charges after Lancerow, is summarily slapped around and thrown screaming out of the battlefield.
Renton’s just about to go after but Gain and Holland stop him, figuring they can take care of themselves – furthermore, we’ve no wiggle room to go after them with all these enemies around. The only think we can do for now is make our way out of here and hope they’re safe.

Same secrets as 51 ZEUTH: the Reccoa stuff and Biosensor weapons for the Zeta.

Ramsus, Dunkel, Jerid and Mauer retreat with either indignation or surprise that they’ve been wrecked. Schlan’s retreat is exactly the same as ZEUTH’s 50 while Reccoa’s is like 51.

I could’ve killed the Gwadan but that’d be :effort: and it wouldn’t change anything:

Haman can’t afford to have her main ship sunk and pulls back. “Put your back into this, ZEUTH. There won’t be any point in calling you here if you don’t.”, she thinks.
Witz finds it very odd that they’d run off so easily after attacking us and Quattro seems to have an idea of what’s going on.

Lancerow can’t keep fighting and unceremoniously retreats.

All enemies downed:

: We’ve got even more Revolutionary troops approaching!

: They just keep coming!
: Shows how much that Colony Laser’s important to them.
: Cpt. Bright, order all troops to retreat!
: But we can’t simply leave the Colony Laser—
: Relax – he’ll take care of it.
: “He”?
: The Moon’s in sight.
: I see…! All troops, retreat! We’re leaving this sector ASAP!

: Hmph! ZEUTH’s run off. Looks like they’re all bark, no bite!
: We’ll usher in a new world order! None may stand up to us!

Nearby…

: ZEUTH’s cleared the area, Garrod!
: Heheh… looks like they saw what we were up to!
: All we have to do now is get rid of that Colony Laser!
: Alright…! I see the Moon!!

: Radar’s detecting a large energy signal?! That’s--!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rek5euZWclg
Honestly, I was very pleasantly surprised to see that they actually made a special cutscene for this but also disappointed that it only shows on this route!
How’s that for a proper representation of the Sat Cannon’s firepower, Blitz?

Garrod gets a hero’s welcome back on the ships and Witz now sees that he simply feigned being shot down by Lancerow so that he could leave the battle and position himself for a good shot on the Colony Laser while the enemy was focused on us.
Indeed, this was their plan from the very start since they figured the Sat Cannon was the only weapon that could bring down something of that size – Kouji’s impressed at Garrod’s acting and even Renton thought he had been legit shot down.
Still, looks like a few folks figured out what he was up to since they got everyone to pull out of the area, right? Yeah, he was a bit too over-the-top when he got shot down that our more seasoned people figured he was up to something and just rolled with it.

Either way, thanks to his stunt, the Colony Laser is totaled but something about this whole engagement smells weird to Rand and Setsuko: Haman could’ve very easily had her men kill us aboard her ship when we refused to cooperate but she didn’t. Maybe she didn’t care to take such a cowardly course of action, Pala wonders.
Kira doesn’t think so, having taken her to be someone who wouldn’t be above using any tactics in order to get what she wants – to say nothing of the fact that Axis’ troops didn’t really seem to be fighting for real despite having initiated he attack.

Roybea is starting to get the picture, though: thanks to Haman calling us over and initiating a battle that close to the Colony Laser, the revolutionaries wound up losing their super weapon.
Haman wanting us to destroy the thing is the only explanation for her actions. Quattro turning her down made it so she needed to stick with the Allied Army but it’s likely she saw that Colony Laser as something she’d rather the revolutionaries not have access to. In the end, she played us as pieces in her own plan.
Camille has felt how dangerous she was during the battle: the ruthlessness she was emanating showed him that she would absolutely use even the lives of others as tools to further her agenda. Kouji’s annoyed that there’s someone like that in the Allied Army and Tetsuya figures the same applies for Logos and the Federation, what with their respective use of REQUIEM and forcing the Coralian Antibodies to awaken.

Athrun says the Allied Army losing their trump card should do a number on their impetus but the problem is that this will provide Logos with an opportunity to counterattack. That said, something odd is that today’s battle didn’t see Logos troops but actual Federation Army units (as shown with Schlan’s presence) – does this mean the Army has dealt with Logos while we weren’t looking?
Kira suggests that the Federation many no longer see them as enemies, having noticed throughout the Archangel’s past investigations on the Feds’ movements that they weren’t actively trying to destroy Logos once and for all after their coup.
Jamil seems to have an idea…

Harry comes in right then, telling that our next objective with be to deal with said Logos on the moon after resupplying on an AEUG-allied colony.
We’ll be trying to destroy them before they can get another REQUIEM shot going which means the moment Garrod’s been waiting for is at hand. He’s certainly not about to let them keep using Tifa as a cog in their war machine.

Over by REQUIEM, our people’s suspicions are proven to be true when Djibril gets punk’d by Scirocco and the Bros.
This scene’s the same as ZEUTH’s 51, as is the last one of Diana telling Agrippa that she’ll be taking Scirocco’s invitation to release D.O.M.E.’s seal.

Finally, over by the Bazaar, we get the Soul of Steel event only taking place in the AEUG’s colony. The start is just like before, with Garrod giving the colonist girl his preserved bouquet but, this time, it’s Henken that’s impressed with the display.
He’s sure the kid’ll save Tifa with that forward-facing attitude. Henken himself will not be accompanying us, since the Raddish will be taking off to spy on the Allied Army, so he gives Garrod the Soul of Steel as compensation.
The kid thanks him, promising to work extra-hard to make up for his absence.
Pala, however, is curious as to what brings Henken to this Market and judging from his flustered response, Roybea quickly figures out that he was buying something for Emma and offers our help finding the perfect gift.
Henken, quietly, wonders how even non-AEUG people know of his relationship with Emma. Gossip, I tell ya…

Pretty much my favorite thing about any SRW is when the guys from one series interfere with a big moment from one of the other series, vastly improving the outcome. Like Rom Stoll busting into the middle of End of Evangelion to give one of his speeches and then everyone owns the hell out of the MP Evas.

Extra Chapter: New Game + and other extras

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFo6F-3gW7Y
And here we see the Female Real Robot Lead and Male Real Robot Lead of Super Robot Wars Z Beating the final boss. :v:

Well there we have it! We've beaten the game.

:toot:

Congratulations to us!

But, of course, there's still more. It's not exactly been a secret that this game has a New Game +. Heck, it's in the title of this update and Brunom's gone through the game with his file being a New Game + File. However, there's a few other things I feel like showing off.

Once you beat the game you're allowed to make a Clear Save. This save is exclusively used to start a New Game +. There's no secret post game or anything like that sadly. Here you can see your protaganist's level, the number of stages you've beaten (Obviously on a clear save it will always be 60), the number of turns you've taken throughout the game, Blue Stones, and money.

I obviously did not speedrun the game, but I didn't exactly sit around lazily either. 411 turns is reasonable for a game of this length.

Load the clear save and this screen comes up. There are three different "Modes" you can play your New Game + File in. You beat the game once, and you unlock standard New Game+ and EX-Hard mode. Beat the game again and you unlock Special Mode.

With any NG+ you carry over the kills, money, PP, and Blue Stones you earned your previous playthrough(s). However, it's not all immediately. The first time you play through, you carry over half of the cash, PP, and Blue Stones you earned. The next time, you carry over 75%, the third time, you finally carry over all of it.

Of course, even half of the total earnings you earn is still a substantial head start.

While SRWZ is a decently challenging game in my experience it's not super hard. And, of course, it can be made more challenging! For those players who just beat it and one an EXTREME challenge can pick EX-Hard Mode.

EX-Hard mode does a few things. First, it permanently places the game in Hard Mode. In a regular game, the difficulty level is set based off the number of Battle Masteries you've collected. Not so in EX-Hard. Getting all the Battle Masteries in EX-Hard is purely for bragging rights and for the easing of the few secrets that use them.

But that's not all. EX-Hard disables upgrades and the Bazaar. All you get for no mech upgrades, no pilot upgrades, no extra parts from the bazaar, nothing. All you can spend is a handful of Blue Stones to buy the mechs and secret parts that pop up.

If anybody wants to do a pure gameplay focused EX-Hard LP, feel free. I'm not going to show any of it off, since it obviously doesn't become interesting until several hours into it when the lack of upgrades starts to take effect.

Once you pick the NG+ mode you want to play (standard, in this case) you go back to the character select screen you are at for the start of the game. Yup, you're not bound to Rand or Setsuko once you go onto a NG+.

Then you can, again, name the character and pick their Birthday and Bloodtype. Now, me and Brunom both picked the 11/11 B Special Birthday. Which gives a a lot of unique utility with cheap Attune and Focus and the like. However, there are a bunch of other birthdays you can pick. Now, Rand's default and Canon Birthday and bloodtype is August 9th, with Bloodtype A. Which, as you'd expect, makes Rand a Leo. :v: His default gives the following Spirit Commands:

  • Strike(15)
  • Invincible(10)
  • Spirit(30)
  • Boost(20)
  • Courage(65)

Now, that's not a bad list! It doesn't have the extra utility of super cheap Attune nor Drive, and Courage is 15 SP more Expensive, but Spirit coming early is helpful. And Boost is utility that 11/11 B just does not get. It removes any semblance of movement issues from Gunleon.

Now, other then the default pick and 11/11 B, the way the game handles the protagonist spirit sets is that first it takes the picked birthday and places you in 12 sets of four Spirit commands. These sets are determined by whatever astrological sign the birthday falls into. Then, the game picks one of the four sets based off the bloodtype you put in. Rand and Setsuko learn each of the five Spirit Commands at the same level.

So, what if Brunom had put in his own birthday for the LP? September 21st, Bloodtype B, Rand would have had this set:

  • Strike(15)
  • Invincible(10)
  • Spirit(30)
  • Guard(20)
  • Courage(65)

Which is, in all honesty, rather unexciting. I think the most notable thing here is the relatively cheap Guard. Which lets you throw Rand into groups of enemies better.

A few other Rand sets I think are interesting are:

Leo (July 23 - August 21) Type B

  • Strike(15)
  • Gain(20)
  • Alert(10)
  • Drive(45)
  • Courage(65)

The stand out spirit commands here are Gain and Alert. Alert on a Super is really handy. As it lets them dodge those nasty Boss status effect attacks. I hope I don't need to explain the utility of Gain on the one unit you have nearly all game.

Cancer (June 22 - July 22) Type B

  • Sense(20)
  • Spirit(35)
  • Luck(30)
  • Daunt(30)
  • Courage(65)

Luck is always great to have. And Daunt, holy crap Daunt. Daunt is always a wonderful thing. You can never have enough Daunt. I'd buy Rand SP-Up if I had this birthday set. Sense provides the same sort of utility Alert does.

Capricorn (December 23 - January 20) Type AB.

  • Sense(20)
  • Gain(20)
  • Confuse(50)
  • Snipe(20)
  • Courage(65)

Snipe is a little odd on Rand. But more importantly, Confuse! Another spirit set where I'd load Rand up with SP-Up to take advantage of that command. Mel can always cast the Valors. :v:

Setsuko's default/canon Birthday is 9/3 A. If you can't figure it out, this makes her a Virgo. Her default Spirit set like Rand’s does have a bit of utility that even 11/11 B doesn't.

  • Focus(15)
  • Sense(20)
  • Fury(20)
  • Drive(45)
  • Soul(55)

The biggest loss is 10 SP Focus, thus she can't spam it every turn with SP Regen. Plus no Attune of course. However, consolidating her source of Strike and Alert into sense frees up a Spirit slot for Fury. Fury is pretty good on Setsuko, since she throws out a lot of ALL attacks plus she lacks Ignore SIze on her best attacks.

And, as mentioned when she first learned it, she's the only female pilot in the game to learn Soul.

So, what if I had put in my Birthday for this playthrough? Well, with March 18th, O Type, I'd have:

  • Focus(15)
  • Sense(20)
  • Fury(20)
  • Spirit(35)
  • Soul(50)

It's... uh... her default list with Drive swapped out for Spirit. :v: I think that's actually better, since she doesn't need a ton of Will to start off. A single Spirit will get her up to the will needed to use Nautilus Carver.

A few others I think are interesting are:

Sagittarius (November 23 - December 22) Type O

  • Focus(15)
  • Boost(20)
  • Sense(20)
  • Snipe(20)
  • Soul(50)

Much like Rand's default, the star of this Spirit set is Boost. Actually, while a few other Birthdays give Setsuko Accel, this is the only Spirt set that gives her Boost. And really early too.

Gemini (May 22 - June 21) Type AB

  • Focus(15)
  • Analyze(20)
  • Sense(20)
  • Valor(35)
  • Zeal(60)

Analyze and Zeal! Both useful commands. Interestingly enough, with the spirit sets that let Setsuko learn Zeal, they're actually cheaper then 11/11 B. However, like I said when Setsuko first learned Soul, 11/11 B Setsuko is the only pilot in the game to learn Zeal and Soul. Any regular Birthday set that gives Setsuko Zeal will have her learn Valor instead.

The early Analyze helps with some of the earlier boss fights on Setsuko's route.

Taurus (April 21 - May 21) Type B

  • Focus(15)
  • Sense(20)
  • Accel(20)
  • Confuse(50)
  • Soul(55)

The combination of Accel and Confuse is good enough that this is the most expensive Soul cast of any Setsuko set. Of course, with SP Regen you could have Setsuko cast Confuse on the first turn and still have enough for Soul by the time you're at the end.

Now then, start a new game with Rand!

Hi Mel!

Hi Rand!

And hello Gunleon!

Now, since I played on Setsuko's route, obviously Rand didn't get any kills so I guess-

Wait why is he starting with 115 Will.

Ohhhhh rigghhhttt.

One unique feature of Rand and Setsuko on NG+ is that they will inherit the kills and PP the other earned on their playthrough. Which means that Rand got every single bit of Setsuko's kills and PP from my playthrough. Holy crap Setsuko got 8000 PP.

This means that, incidentally, if you're planning on playing through twice, playing on Setsuko's route might be the optimal idea. Why?

Guess why!

Asakim you prick!

But yeah, remember that when Denzel and Toby were murdered by Asakim, Setsuko inherited their PP. This gives Setsuko a large infusion of extra PP that Rand just does not get... unless you do a NG+. Then Rand can get that sweet blood PP.

So yeaahhhh. With the extra Will that comes from him being a Double Ace and my Top Ace, the first stage is simpler than usual.

Now, you can do some fun things with all that money and PP you get from the last playthrough. Especially Rand, with that Sorrow Fueled powerup he has there. Brunom didn't abuse it really, he wanted to show off the game and be fair to it.

First, a shopping spree. I'll never want for Boosters again really.

Next, I use the 4000 PP I got for Rand to teach him Attack Again.

I then up his Skill by 30.

Finally, I teach him E Save and Will Limit Break.

I'm not interested in being fair. Not in the slightest. I max out the Gunleon and its weapons. It's a thing of beauty.

But, of course, there's the final New Game+ mode. Special Mode! Let's try that out with Setsuko again.

Denzel and Toby inherit their PP and kills like the rest of the cast. However, they'll still pass on their PP when they die. So this playthrough Setsuko not only has half the PP she got from the last run, which includes Denzel and Toby's, but she'll then get what Denzel and Toby inherit and earn this playthrough.

But, of course, it's time to get into the real meat of just what makes Special Mode Special. There's two things that Special Mode gives you.

First, this. If you can't see exactly what this is, let me highlight it.

In Special Mode, there are Fifteen Upgrade Bars. This is as ridiculous as it looks. Just look at that. With all fifteen bars filled, the Virgola 3 has Super Robot Level HP and Armor, evade that's just Wrong, and ridiculous attack power. Seriously. With 15 bars, the Virgola 3's Jack Carver is stronger than Space Combination's base power.

But that's not all! There's more!

At the start of the game you're given a minor bonus... just, you know, every part in the game. And not even just one. You get like, 5-2 depending on the part. I have 3 Shadow Angel Feathers! Two freaking Haros! Hero's Mark! Soul of Steel! S Adaptors! It's absurd.

In case you can't tell, Special Mode is basically Banpresto telling you "You want to just mess around and do whatever? Here you go! Just break the game in half, have fun!"

And there we go, that's everything interesting about New Game + I can think to show.

Hope you all enjoy the rest of the ZAFT Route (I've never actually seen it myself).

And Merry Christmas. :toot:

If someone says it one more time I'm having Florina show up as a corpse. I'm not even kidding, I was pissed off with people doing that shit back in 2010, and I'm not dealing with it now in 2016.
I love Special Mode, I've done an Ex-Hard mode playthrough once, on SRW OG2.

Pretty sure you had to beat EX-Hard on OG2 to unlock Special anyway.

And man, if they gave you a random number of parts like that on every game that would be amazing.

But SRW always has really fun NG+ stuff. I rather like J where you got to completely customize your spirit pool. Having Break or whatever it was that let you bypass enemy barriers early in the game was so satisfying, given how many enemies had them.

Don't like it? well...

Of course, one problem with J's NG+ is that it doesn't pass down the bonus points one protagonist earns to the other.

How’s that for a proper representation of the Sat Cannon’s firepower, Blitz?

And here I was wondering if they were going to just skip out on that scene from Gundam X. That was great!

...Of course now this makes me wonder why they didn't just do this with every other threat in space but details!

The other Problem is it's J. And you know how we've been praising Z for how well it's tied together everything from its various plots? Okay now imagine if an SRW did none of that, and each series felt completely divorced from the others. That's J.

Isn't PP completely useless in that game though? All that happens is that at 100 kills a pilot starts at like 105 will instead of 100. Or do you mean level up stat increases?

Call me a Gundam X fanboy, I don't care. I did the ZAFT route when I was playing this game blind and I still think it owns.

Aw, J's not terrible. It's an alright babby's first SRW, especially since it has a proper translation patch.

Yeah that is combined with the worst part of J, the reinforcements. "Oh, you just spent a whole battle fighting FMP mooks? Now here are some ZAFT mooks for an entirely different reason on the other side of the map.

But that's what Zeorymer is for.

It's not terrible it just doesn't do what I want out of an SRW. W could be seen as a redo of J, except this time actually trying them all together.

Not to mention that excluding FMP mooks, you'd likely never encounter two enemy forces at the same time on a map. The Earth Federation only used Strike Daggers, not bothering with any Arm Slaves or Sol Tekkamen or anything else that would make them seem unified in the world. Also ultimately the plots really don't try to work with each other. Why does Kira have to fight in the Strike when the Nadesico is right there to protect them and the Strike Gundam is really kind of important that it NOT gets destroyed? Oh because they can't trust the Nadesico not to flake, it's better to risk getting their one hope shot down.

My personal theory on J is that since the game is set in the Cosmic Era, everyone (both heroes and villains) has their intelligence level adjusted to be as dumb and/or incompetent as the rest of the SEED universe. This explains a lot of stuff in the game, like the Archangel's extreme dependency on Kira despite the Nadesico housing stuff like Mazinger Z and Combattler V or how two of seven Mycenae Generals die not to named playable characters or named villains, but to the loving Brain Powered grunts you've been fighting all throughout the game.

I like this, it implies that Seed is basically the zombie virus of SRW: once infected, you either compensate for Seed and therefor make Seed better than its natural form, or resist it and become a mindless monster that lashes out at every other series in the game.

Also, merry X-mas.
