Haven't seen either episode in a long time, but I easily think back and remember all the parts I liked about Regional Holiday Music and most songs/shifts in the episode. Abed's Christmas just isn't all that memorable aside from the gimmick (well, and the clay characters like Teddy pierce or Jeff in the Box). Plus the funniest joke ABC gave us wasn't even in that episode.... it was the clip show's recollection of Jeff's stoic disinterest with everyone pretending to be made of clay.

Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas is warm, funny, and great overall. Easily the best Community Christmas episode. I. M. H. O.

Last Chance posted:Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas is warm, funny, and great overall. Easily the best Community Christmas episode. 100% agreed. Regional Holiday Music is a very funny episode, but it's honestly third in my Community Christmas episode rankings because the two that preceded it both make me tear up (plus the first season Christmas episode is one of the funniest of that year).

It's always funny when people arguing about which piece of art is objectively better and why (and don't get me wrong. I do it.), but it's doubly funny when it's about Christmas specials.

Shirley's "Baby what? What the hell??" alone makes Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas amazing.

But which Halloween episode is the best? Despite played out zombie plot, it's certainly season 2's in my opinion thanks to ABBA and George Takei.

Zombie Jeff smashing the blackberry is one of the funniest bits in the whole show IMO.

I think Epidemiology had a better story and was more clever, but Seven Spooky Steps made me laugh out loud more, even though it's probably the weakest of the three. Statistics was one of the first episodes to really show Community's freak flag, which gives it a special place in my heart. It's a tough choice. I'll go 2 > 1 > 3 as episodes of TV, and 3 > 2 > 1 as my personal enjoyment of them. But they all have their merits.

The best Halloween bit in Community is the outtakes from Season 1 where Donald Glover ad-libs questions to ask Batman.

The zombie episode is too fantastic for my tastes and the short stories one has a weak premise. Season 1's is my favorite by default, but that being said, I don't think Community has done a great Halloween episode like it has done two and a half great Christmas episodes.

I just can't believe that a Community haunted house episode written by the Ganz ended up so disappointing. Oh well! In case anyone is really, really curious and doesn't care about major spoilers, the episode description for 504 has been released and begins with "after Pierce's untimely passing..." still, it happened to Starburns

Ludwig Gorannson (the show's composer) released a medley of tunes that wasn't on the original soundtrack. (He still has yet to release the tunes from Fistful of Paintballs though!) It is both awesome, uplifting and amazingly nostalgic. (for something that is 4 years old) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzdJFyHM5cc This show.

So is this show worth watching again or not? As soon as I heard Dan Harmon was no longer involved I kinda just stopped watching since I figured he was the main creative force behind it.

I'm gonna add it to the OP, but everyone who didn't watch Season 4 should at the very least watch episodes 8 and 11 (Herstory of Dance and Basic Human Anatomy), which are actually pretty decent episodes, at the very least. In the case of Herstory of Dance, it's even more important now because it introduces a really great guest character who's returning this season.
|
|
|

Basic Human Anatomy in particular is a really good one. In the end Season 4 might have been worth it since it meant that Jim Rash had an opportunity to write a script and not have it picked apart and rewritten and retooled by insane control freak perfectionist Dan Harmon.

I wish Jim Rash could write more episodes because he's real good at that writing thing.
