So yesterday after a guy tried to merge into me, then rode my rear end, then brake-checked me multiple times (the last time he was trying to cause an accident, I nearly wrecked but I held it and got off at the exit nearby to get away from the guy) I'd like a cheap dash-cam.

I have a couple of cars that I drive depending on the weather and want something easily transferable. Something like this that just straps to my mirror would be nice, though something smaller that doesn't block the mirror (one of them is a newer car and I don't need the backup camera stuff, though I would like a rear facing camera).

So this is the one I settled on because it's got two cameras and wifi and is still reasonably priced. I might buy a second in the future but right now I want something easily transferable. I switch between two cars but I actually have six and I'm not buying six of these things.

I got the second camera hoping it can see out my back window. I don't want to wire in a second camera but I want that view - last year I got rear ended and the guy ran off. We don't have front plates here so I don't need that level of detail, I just want to show what happens behind me.

I might use it for the interior sensor feature, not sure yet.

I also ordered a 64 gig card, looks like it should be good for eight hours before it overwrites, which is more than fine for me.

The wifi feature looks neat... download the video directly to my phone without taking the card out sounds pretty nice.

also, they straight up tell you the daytime video is going to have a purple tint? What the hell is that? I've never seen the dash cam do that.

This is the true dual camera I've used, but seem to be unavailable now. I'm sure you can find another https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D9F1QP8/?coliid=I2VUHDN0PMK06U&colid=QN6ZDL5RPQ22&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

I think in the interior view I can see plenty out the rear window. I have the IR stuff turned off at the moment. I am going to keep playing with the settings but overall, for being night, I think the video is good. I'll play with it more tomorrow in the daylight.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwAJyGM4bjw
This is supposed to be 1080p front. The rear camera is also recording at 1080p. During the daytime the rear camera is all but useless for what I need it for - the daylight washes out anything in the windows. Oh well, I was afraid of that but it isn't that big a deal.

No points for that driver's poor timing but suicide lanes are definitely allowed for turning left into, at least in AZ - but you have to stop as soon as you get into it and wait until you can merge.

If you look, there's left turn arrows painted on the road in that lane. I believe here in Indiana they're explicitly for left turns only, not for turning into and using to merge. I could be wrong though.

I don't think this is the AI consensus, but a lot of people around here like to poo poo on roundabouts because they think they cause accidents. Compared to a 2-way or 4-way stop, yeah a bad driver is going to mess it up. However, the accidents that happen in a roundabout, whether caused by the thing or not, are FAR less severe than a similar accident at a 2-way or 4-way stop.

Even if the grey Forester (or whatever that was) kept going and hit you, they're going almost the same direction as you and the impact would be far less severe. It would be a sideswipe instead of a T-bone. Since head-on accidents are all but impossible, the worst accident you'll have is rear-ending someone. Even then, it'll be far less severe since you have to slow down to use the thing in the first place. Compare that with a 2-way and 4-way intersection, you can blast straight through at full speed if you want. Signals and signs can't stop you, but islands and obstructions very much will.

Oh I agree completely, I love roundabouts. I just with the people around here knew how to use them.

That's a stupid law. I'm in Indiana and as awful a state as it is, no police report is needed. Insurance claim is filled out and I'm calling a body shop next week. I'm out a $250 comprehensive deductible but that's it. The damage looks to be limited to the front bumper cover and the splash guards on both sides and the middle. The tread went all the way under the car and popped the rear bumper cover off on one side but I put it back and it doesn't look damaged.

I kind of wish I'd stopped at the next rest area like the buy behind me did, it looks like it might have done some more damage to their BMW.

Yesterday morning I got behind a pickup truck going ridiculously slowly. I patiently waited until the dotted yellow before passing him, and he tried to brake check me... as I was passing. Not shown is the part where he angrily sped up and tried to keep up (I was doing about 60 in a 55, he had been doing... 25 before I passed him, not just on these roads but on a few others. I'd been the fourth car in line behind him but a couple of others went straight on a previous road while we both turned)

Well I got rearended pretty hard today in my Volvo

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrWO2ZjWIVY

Basically I was doing 55 in the left lane of US20 (my left turn was about a quarter mile away but I wasn't slowing down or anything yet) and a Jeep Renegade hit me doing ~80-90, then took off. My guess is they still had the cruise set from the limited access part of the bypass (where the speed limit is 65, though it's 50 where I was hit) and were just not paying attention. I tailed them while I called 911 and they tracked the parents down (it was registered in their name, and insured thankfully) and finally got ahold of him. He admitted fault and claims he 'dozed off.' I have the option to press charges for fleeing but I'm thinking I won't. I wish I had a rear-facing camera (which would have showed his speed coming up on me) but alas I don't.

His insurance is the same as mine. I have liability only on it but since he's at fault, my guess is they're going to want to total it and give me a few grand. My plan, assuming that's the case, is to buy it back from salvage. It's my winter beater and I've had it for 13 years. The heat works great, it's a 5-speed and I've got studded snow tires on it. My fear is that the impact caused other damage - the dash is now fully detached from the cowl and the ABS light is on. The battery was disconnected after I stopped, but moving the battery around seems to have fixed it. Runs and drives OK as far as I can tell.
