I think Mega Drive is my new fave. Been blasting it all day long. Long live retrowave! Hopefully it won't die out as quickly as chillwave or bloghouse did.

I need to go find my original style black wayfarers and leather jacket. Winter can go gently caress itself. Also where is my pomade.

edit: I think I may have a problem.. this is all new stuff too. No flacs.

I just run them off youtube. Problem is I have to remember what I want to listen to

most of them are on these 3 channels anyway
https://www.youtube.com/user/LuigiDonatello

https://www.youtube.com/user/NewRetroWave

https://www.youtube.com/user/ManiacSynth

that or just go to the artist Soundcloud/Bandcamp/Spotify pages

this is assuming my poo poo's connected

The Rewind EP is straight through amazing, but this song in particular gives me goosebumps every time.

Mega Drive - [Rewind e.p #04] Neo Tokyo 2019

edit: btw get the "NewRetroWave - The 80s Dream Compilation Tape" vol 1 and 2. Best bang for your buck imo.

Hey 5-HT, you posting that retrowave/synthwave stuff in the 80s thread a month ago turned me into a total retro wave junkie. I listen to that poo poo now every day, so thank you. Also do you have playlists/DJ sets or whatever

not really. usually just make them at random on the fly. your best bet is it to just check the channels for the videos i'm posting. long as you have a good ear, you'll be able to sort out what sounds good quickly.

Why are you so butthurt and bitchy? I'm listening with interest to the music. To me it sounds like it's based on early 90's music, like early 16-bit game carts, which me makes wonder why it gets the 80's label.

These days I do film sound design, if that's OK with you.

Tbh, I was always kinda not down with the whole New Retro/eighties label. It's pretty hard to categorize this music and press it into fitting drawers. I just call it Synthie music and have a cool day

I think you can sense that Retrowave was written by a generation that has Techno & Electronic Music of the 90s and 00s in its DNA. The bass and the drums are harder, there's more stoicism and cynicism present. I think. OTOH it's spooky watching that Linea Aspera vid, it feels like Siouxsie Sioux and the Banshees 2.0.

Manning the graveyard shift, this thread is making it pretty great!

Been listening on and off to this stuff ever since Drive came out, mostly through NRW on youtube and the occasional gimmel mix (yes its true). NRW took down one of my favorite tracks though, I'm pretty sure it used to be the opening track to the second playlist/compilation. It was called running-something, and the video featured a lot of car chases, not much to go by in this scene though.

Speaking of buying plastic discs, this Blade Runner-inspired album with art by Kilian Eng is coming out in May: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/moments-lost
