Since it's the spooky month, does anyone have any recs for retrowave/horrorsynth that sounds like it's straight out of a 70s/80s horror flick? Lookin for those John Carpenter or Goblin vibes, or anything that's a bit spookier than typical retrowave.

They're not really 'retrowave' but Zoltan are kind of like that, obvious Goblin influence https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23iYq9fd6Vs

Is it me, or are the two options for seeing any sort of synthwave artist live to either live in Los Angeles, or to live in Europe? :sigh:

I find that pretty hard to believe given how easy to make and generally lazy the music is. Surely the local synth nerds have a project or two wherever you are?

i personally dont really get why metalheads are into synthwave. pretty much the only metal i like is as close to shoegaze as possible, while i am crazy about all sorts of synth

It's because a lot of metalheads like very tacky things and they also don't know much about electronic music

Yeessh

it doesn't seem very surprising that a genre spread primarily on internet forums that is mostly about nostalgia for an imagined past might attract that sort of thing.

How about some new wave from when it really was new? I'm primarily stuck on that sort of thing, post punk and 'new' wave, and being from Serbia I know a huge amount of bands operating all over Yugoslavia in the 80s. Think we really kicked rear end as far as music goes in that time period, so I'll drop some representative stuff down.

Videosex - modern-day Slovenia

No way you can talk about new wave in Yugoslavia without mentioning this band. Anja Rupel was(is) adored and they are icons of the new wave movement.
Videosex - Videosex
Videosex - Kako bih volio da si tu
Videosex - Detektivska prica (live)

Beograd - modern-day Serbia

Splendid synthwave, 'nuff said.
Beograd - Sanjas li u boji?
Beograd - Opasne igre

Kaos - modern-day Croatia

Croatia had one hell of a punk and post punk scene. More often than not, if you hear good poo poo from that end of the spectrum you can bet it came from Croatia, really a bunch of hella good bands. Kaos is very representative of the post punk scene.
Kaos - Satovi bez kazaljke
Kaos - Tigar

Hope all of you enjoy this little preview of the Yugoslavian new wave scene. Now I am barely scratching the surface here, if enough people dig this stuff I will gladly take you for another run around the ex-Yu scene :) .

This is a good post about cool music(that videosex album rules) but it's going to be lost on most of this thread because they want to talk about corny contemporary synth stuff made by computer programmers rather than actual new wave.

Not that I care if they are all devil worshipers, but I assume all the satanic imagery you see in art for CB, Gost etc is just mimicking the 80's moral panic about Ritual Satanic Abuse and how often it showed up in media from the era.

where are the christian synthwave artists, let's make this genre as lame and dweeby as possible

A human heart

fyi the imagery is probably there because a bunch of synthwave guys were in mediocre black metal bands before they started doing synthwave

The article doesn't say that Perturbator is alt right(and in fact goes out of its way to say that he isn't), just that many alt right guys listen to him, which is correct.

is there a separate thread for non-synthwave highfalutin experimental electronic music or is this it? i'm looking for stuff similar to the last 2ish years of Orange Milk Records releases. i'd call that vaporwave adjacent I s'pose because of the death's dynamic shroud connection. the sonic palette contains more FM/wavetable synthesis and windowsXP/vista-esque piano & found sounds and the song structures are usually bonkers. often it sounds like the electronic version of free jazz or weirder non-jammy prog. any other labels out there doing similar stuff?

no one in this thread knows anything about this stuff, try asking in the phiz ambient/drone/noise thread.
