We make reading goals, then keep track of the books we read. Not much to it.

Here's my Goodreads, feel free to post yours! They have a great tool to help you keep track of what you're reading, too.

MOD EDIT: Good luck to everyone on your challenges! Just a reminder that the forum rule against posting only book titles with no other explanation or discussion applies in this thread also. If you're posting book titles, post something about why you want to read them or what you thought of them.

Well you're just going to have to get over that.
Decided I'm not going to be posting people's goals this year, it was a lot of extra work and I don't think anyone really cared.

For myself, my goal is the same as last year - 75 books. I'm starting a REAL JOB this month so this might be difficult for me.

Seeing as my final total of books in 2013 was 52, that will be the initial number of books for 2014.

I've also finished my first book for 2014.

#1: Cloud Atlas - David Mitchell.

Yeah, I know I started reading it at the end of last year. I finished it this year, so it counts.

Downsizing to 60 this year. Schedule has really picked up and I don't think I'll be able to read as much as the last couple of years. Last year, I also found that I was avoiding longer books to keep up with my goal and I really want to avoid doing that. I'd also like to put a secondary goal of reading at least 3 non fiction books. I'll up my total if I find that I'm going too quickly.

Edited to add in goodreads profile.

I just got back into reading last year after almost a decade of not reading anything beyond what was mandated by my job or education, so I'm keeping it modest at 12 books for the year.

Here's my next question. I'm in the middle of a book. Does it count for this year if I started it 2013, but finished it in 2014?

Tiggum

Your life and your quest end here.

I read 54 last year, so I'll set my goal at 52 again this year. One a week seems reasonable. I'm also going to add some extra conditions this year though. Firstly, at least 20 of the 52 must be by female authors since it was only 17/54 last year. At least ten of them must be non-fiction since I only read five of those in 2013. And finally, no more than five books from any one series can count, because otherwise I'm likely to read too many Poirot books. I will be counting books that I've already started reading though, as long as I finish them this year.

Here's my Goodreads for anyone who's interested in seeing my reviews or whatever.

Aiming for 26 books which will ideally include 6 non-fiction. I'm actually more concerned about the non-fiction part of that goal, which is why I'm setting it.

I'm not a nerd! I'm a video game enthusiast.
Three years down, three goals missed. Why set another goal? Years ago, I remember this bit going around the internet about Peanuts as written by Charles Bukowski. In the final bit, Charlie Branaski is asked why he keeps on trying when he constantly fails. His reply? “I guess someone needs to be lousy at everything. Otherwise you’d get no perspective.”

I'm in for 18 books. Here's my Goodreads profile.

Enjoy your perspective.

From everything I have seen, and from what I do, it is your goal. You decide what counts and what doesn't. I am personally going to have the book I am finishing up that I started last year count, because I am going by when I finish.

Good luck with your goal!

I missed my 2013 goal, which was 26 books and no rereads, by quite a bit. I ended up with 17. However, I enjoyed having the some sort of target to shoot for, so I'm going for it again. A bit easier this year, I'll shoot for 24 books (2 per month, rather than one every two weeks), and rereads count, because there are quite a few things I want to revisit.

Well, last year my goal was 40 but I impressed myself by managing 53. I was thinking about splitting the difference and going for 47 this year, but at the same time I want to make a point of getting through a fair few of the larger volumes on my bought-but-unread pile (and there are quite a lot).
