Giant Bomb is a personality based gaming website that values entertainment on at least an equal footing with presenting the facts. Once part of Whiskey Media, but now back at the company that several of them originated from, CBSi. They produce a lot of video games entertainment, and offer a premium membership at the low, low price of $5 a month! Note that each person's name below leads to their twitter, and their Twitch/Youtube channels are listed below if they are known for using them. The People San Francisco Video Crew Jeff Gerstmann Jeff’s Tumblr Jeff's Twitch Channel A founding member with Ryan, as it was his firing from Gamespot caused the creation of the site. Appears in a lot of the videos and also has a really bad habit of buying the dumbest things possible, be it Game Room or multiple copies of the same game. He serves as host of the Bombcast, as well as host of weekly premium feature, Unprofessional Fridays. Brad Shoemaker Brad's Twitch Channel Brad’s Tumblr Brad is the straight man of the group, but also takes dying to a game very rough, even in quick looks or the Breaking Brad premium content. Point in case. He hosts the number on MOBA series on the web, the Daily Dota, which contains only the most pro strats. Dan Ryckert Dan's Twitch Channel Tumblr Dan Ryckert joined the crew in 2014, beating out strong competitors to the throne such as JARED ROSEN, coming over from GameInformer. He is a man of mystery. The mystery is 'how the gently caress is this man even alive'? He once spent a Summer eating hotdogs off a shoebox. He lied about needing glasses to get a prescription for them, and hence ruined his eyesight to the point of needing glasses because he thought they were 'cool'. He once cooked eggshells, thinking they were the egg white. This man has a degree. Nonetheless, he is absolute gold in videos. Matthew Rorie Matt's Twitch Channel Matt Rorie was an ex-Whiskey Media team member who worked on Screened alongside Giant Bomb reviewer Alex Navarro, and has worked as a Games Guide editor at Gamespot and also as a PR Manager at Obsidian Entertainment. He now works as Community Manager at Giantbomb, ‘replacing’ Dave Snider. He is typically found in the background of I Love Monday’s, modding the stream chatroom or playing Dark Souls for the internet. Drew Scanlon Drew's Twitch Channel The site's main video editor who also features on video content. Hired immediately after his stint as Giant Bomb’s first intern, he is a fan of hardcore simulations and the quicklooks for those are always awesome. More recently, he seems to have taken a stronger role in operations, appearing in Bombcasts and often brings the best content to Unprofessional Fridays. Jason Oestricher Jason is another new hire with Dan Ryckert coming over from GameInformer. He doesn't have much of a camera presence (yet) and for the large part is taking the role of video editor. His Street Fighter skills are real and he is a competitor to the title of 'best in office'. If you hear a voice pop in on a QL, chances are it will be Jason or Drew, telling the crew the super obvious thing they have been missing for the past 5 minutes. He is a super legit camera person and has massive IMDB credits. Alexis Gallisá Site designer for Giant Bomb. He builds most of the designs of the site and gets called out for it when they don't work. A massive fan of Halo. Also nearly died eating 100 chicken nuggets one time for a Big Live Live Show. He is a frequent couch member when Unprofessional Fridays go live. People Who Appear in a Lot of CBSi Office Content Gamespot Most of the crew used to work at Gamespot. So did a lot of other people too. Some still work there, the poor saps. Danny O'Dwyer Danny O'Dwyer is Gamespot's lead Irishman. He serves as a frequent guest on Unprofessional Friday, and also co-hosts premium podcast Alt-F1 with Drew. Mary Kish These images say a lot about Mary Kish. She is a producer over at Gamespot, who works on their show The Lobby (which GB duders sometimes guest on). She also pops up from time to time over on GB and is really funny. Also GB need to steal her for their team because she rules. East Coast Vinny Caravella Vinny’s Tumblr Vinny's Twitch Channel Is the video producer for the site but also channels an almost contagious amount of glee when describing games or mechanics he likes. Due to this he is probably the consensus favorite for person you want in a quicklook, at least on Something Awful. He moved over to NY recently to raise his child with his family, and is now a part of the 'Alex-Vinny QL Dream-Team'. Alex Navarro Alex is the reviewer in the east coast. He doesn’t appear in much West Coast content, but you can see him twice every week in Scoops and the Wolf. He also handles half of the hosting dutes for the Giantbomb movie podcast, as well as the Powerbombcast. Austin Walker Austin Walker is the game philosophizing, mech idolitizing, wrestle ideologising new member of the East Coast crew. He is Dr. Videogames, the Black Marx, the man who is bringing great content to your front page. Hired in 2015, Austin immediately fit into the crew over there as a natural team member with Alex and Vinny, and brings to the front a lot of indie game which would otherwise go unnoticed. He is a great writer and an even better personality, and has a fantastic laugh. Outside of Giant Bomb, he also does a few things with Stream Friends as well as hosting his own tabletop roleplay podcast, Friends at the Table. People Who Appear in Non-CBSi Central Videos Iron Galaxy Dave Lang Lang's Podcast, GFBRadio, which is very fun Dave Lang is the man. He is CEO of Iron Galaxy, and can be found guesting with Pat on Professional Fridays, supplying the location, his very own Iron Galaxy Studio. Cards Against Humanity/Maxistentialism Max Temkin After the crew played his game, Cards Against Humanity, one TNT a partnership and friendship was quickly born between Ryan and Max. He is a good friend of Pat and the rest of the crew, and often guests/co-hosts in Giantbomb Chicago content, such as Super Professional Friday. Ex-Crew Members Ryan Davis Handled the hosting duties of giantbomb podcast and appeared in a lot of the quick looks. Passed away July 3rd, 2013. He may be gone, but his memory lives on in hundreds of hours of content, both video and audio. Try not to discuss his cause of death please, it won't do the thread any good and will just cause an argument. Patrick Klepek Patrick's Twitch Channel Patrick's Youtube Channel Patrick’s Tumblr Ex-news editor of the site. He left to become the Senior News Editor at Kotaku. He used to feature in a lot of content, from Bombcasts to Quick Looks, often of stuff that would otherwise get overlooked. He also created the Interview Dumptruck, which were raw recordings of live interviews with the industry dropped onto the site for you to listen to. I'll miss his content. Dave Snider Hardcore Dave was the lead Designer of Giant Bomb. He is a huge pc gamer who seems to be drawn to weird european games. He left Giantbomb after the new site was in a good enough working shape to focus on his family and other projects, such as Webhook. What is on the site Quick Looks: The main site content, these often run ten minutes to hour and half long videos showcasing gameplay of games. For the most part these are generally good, but there are some stinkers out there. QL EX tend to have a person from the developres, which can either be really great (Double Fine) or really awful (Sonic Racing). Bombin' The A.M. With Sccops and the Wolf: A morning 'radio show' style mini podcast, hosted by Patrick and Alex, with guests. Goes live Endurance Run: Only three to date, they are LP style video contents from the start of the game to the end. The first was Persona, then there was a dual endurance run with Deadly Premonition, and then the third covered Chrono Trigger. The (not so) Daily Dota: Brad Shoemaker plays some Dota 2 (or gets carried, at least), alongside ex intern Matt Kessler, and whichever friend of the site happens to be playing and interested at the time. Subscriber Content Random PC: Name says it all, just them playing a random old PC game. Load Our Last Save: Resuming years old X-Box saves. Haven't had a new entry in a long while, so it might not be coming back. I miss it. Jar Time: Jeff answering questions from the community. Patrick’s Question Time: Jar time, but without Jeff or jars. Breaking Brad: Brad trying to earn a hard to obtain achievements and failing miserably. Spookin' With Scoops: Patrick with a scare cam. Unprofessional Fridays: New weekly in house games display, in which each SF staff member will bring in a game of their choice to play live on the internet for our viewing pleasure. Often involves beer and laughs. Typically runs for 2-3 hours, depending on how long or how crazy the games being shown are. Untitled Giant Bomb Movie Podcast: A movie podcast hosted by Matt and Alex. New eps don’t come out often, but it is usually worth a listen. The POWERBOMBCAST: The official Giantbomb wrasslin’ podcast, hosted by Alex, featuring Jeff Gerstmann, Jared Rea, Giancarlo Varinini Just who are these guests? Giant Bomb is known for it's cast, but also for the deep connections the cast has to the rest of the industry. With these connections, they often pull in guests for bombcasts, livestreams or panel shows, many of whom you might not know if you have not followed them for years. Here are the most frequent guests: Double Fine Double Fine offices are up the street or something like that, so they guest all the time. Brad Muir Designer over at Double Fine, Brad Muir is a long standing friend of the crew who is known for almost impossible levels of happiness on display at all times.. Tim Schafer Tim Schafer is the founder of Double Fine and a developer who is heralded as a masterful designer of classic adventure games, such as the Monkey Island series or Grim Fandango. Jamie and Adam's Tested.com Ex-Whiskey Media Family partner site, Tested is home to Will Smith (not that Will Smith), Norman Chan, Gary Whitta and Joey Fameli. They don't appear much in content anymore, but if you are going through the back catalogue, you will see a lot of them. Current Tested chat may as well be welcome here, because a) there is nowhere else to discuss them, and b) I don't see why it wouldn't be welcome. Test away. Will Smith When Whiskey started Tested, so came Will Smith. Ex-writer for PC Gamer magazine (I think), Will works for Tested, a devoted tech news site and podcast, which used to be recorded in the same ramshackle basement as the bombcast. Norm Chan Alongside Will you would often find Norm doing something stupid on Happy Hour. Norm was also known for being Brad's Starcraft 2 rival (despite being out of Brad's league) and for being pretty good at Battlefield 3, but not as good as Mike Horn. Disney John Vignocchi From Midway, to Vogster to executive producer at Disney Interactive, John Vignocchi is a long time friend of the crew and the site. Once guested on the Bombcast without even realising it. Sony Adam Boyes Adam Boyes used to be a tester for EA, now he is Head of Publisher Relations at Sony Computer Entertainment America. Talk about climbing the ladder. He also turned up to the E3 2013 podcasts with a real PS4 like it was nothing. John T. Drake Diet Coke drinkin', If there is anything that you would like to see added to either this OP, or the second post, drop me a PM and I will get on it. I want to try to keep this relevant and up to date. ROYS BOYS code:

It seems like it is an extremely niche group of people who even want this. I remember back when this was announced a lot of people in my old sixth form were interested in playing it. A couple were even placing bets for who will cap their level first with each other, because that is apparently a thing they did in MMOs.

OLIVIAS WILDE RIDER posted:If "story was predictable" was 100% of how you judge a game, all video games would score a 0. Really, you can reduce any story down to two key events. 1) There is a plot. 2) There is a conclusion to a plot. As such, I just cannot see why people can ever be surprised with stories, as they are just so predictable. I feel this work can only merit a 7/10 at best because of this.

I remember when Demon Souls first come out I read about it in some gaming magazine (no idea why I wasted my money on that crap back then) and I reaaaaalllly wanted to be able to play it, but I only owned a 360. The concepts behind it sounded cool and the online soapstone trolling sorta thing was right up my street then. Pretty sure the review I read also gave it something like a 9/10.

Akuma posted:It really is if you're only posting to be smug about it. I died three times getting through Blighttown the first time but it was still hard and I could still see why it's a challenge for people. I'm saying Blighttown (and Dark Souls, by extension) is not actually hard when approached right. Three of the times I died were because I couldn't spot the toxic guys. After I killed the first one mind, I never had an issue after. All the time up to then I was not using a shield, so I was used to getting dicked on by arrow guys. One other death was because the dogs are dicks and cannot be hit by a rapier easily. The reason I found it easy I think is because, like Brad, I play cautiously. I fell for a total of one trap in Sen's (the backwards arrow, gotta admit, good trick there). Paying attention to poo poo and being mindful of your surroundings does wonders. I just legit don't get why people find Blighttown challenging, and also don't get how a shielded run is supposed to make it easier than my no shield run. I guess falling off might be an issue for some people, but it is never really an issue if you pick your battlefield - kite guys to somewhere that you can breathe in. The ground floor is just an exercise in managing your estus well. The fights are not a real big deal there, so I can only see the lack of flooring as an issue. Also, I found the way into Anor Londo through the window in like three minutes. E: I did find Sen's tricky, mind. A lot of the enemy positioning, with the zappy guys offscreen was not fun. But that is partly a flaw with the camera controls. Another Person fucked around with this message at 20:09 on Jan 16, 2014 |

Oh, also, Brad, just listening to the AGDQ part of the podcast now and you said you liked watching people do speedruns that are not glitch runthroughs, but just pure skill, watch the F-Zero GX speedrun. I don't particularly mind about the quality of play when I watch GB or something like that. If I wanted to watch pro play, I would look for pro play. Lord knows it is easy to find out there on the internet. But I am watching for more than that - to be informed and entertained. That is the main reason I watch/listen to Giant Bomb. You guys deliver that. Maybe people just don't like watching people play in a way they feel is wasting their time or something like that. Also, what KoB said.

Yeah, Brad is playing the game properly. I don't think we need Brad to run in like a headless chicken for this to be entertaining. We already have Vinny playing devil's advocate - I feel that will be enough. I think it will be more painful to watch him bang his head against an encounter because he doesn't pick his fights.
