I'm 95% certain the name changed from Games Day because they didn't want people associating The Hobby (tm) with games of any kind. They're Forging Their Narrative.

I'm fairly confident that Rifts and 40k are the same setting. Though it raises the question of who handles their IP worse: GW or Palladium?

Daedleh posted:The uncertainly should come from how effective your assault is - i.e. do you flub your to-hit/to-wound rolls and does your opponent make a stupid amount of armour saves. Not a single dice roll to determine whether you actually make it or not, leaving you smack bang in the middle of bumfuck nowhere, 3" away from the target, with the entire enemy army pointing their guns at you. This! Not to mention the melee to-hit chart means you never get a better chance to hit than 3+ or worse than 5+ no matter how great the discrepancy in WS. Unless you're Kharn. Edit: And if you fail the charge, you're stuck within 12" of yet another round of enemy fire, this time at full BS. ThNextGreenLantern fucked around with this message at 17:43 on Jul 30, 2014 |

Man, I missed a lot of the fun here while I was playing Warhammer 40k with a friend. Most of the posts are people who are upset and flabbergasted that Serious Gaylord continues to stand up for the boxes. Now, I'm not one to start randomly pulling GW quotes out of context, but if "the hobby is buying" "these jewel-like objects of wonder" we call "Citadel miniatures", then I'd expect a pretty box to entice me to purchase them. When I first saw a plain white GW box, it immediately made me think of a cheap toy from a cereal mail-in promotion. Edit: I was mostly mad because I didn't find a translucent Ghost Obi-Wan figure in the box. ThNextGreenLantern fucked around with this message at 04:10 on Aug 2, 2014 |

Really, the way that they're packaged doesn't have an impact on the amount of enjoyment I get from assembling, painting, and playing with them. I just wanted to be snarky. It looked fun. I would take all of the models having a plain white box if they could divert those funds to improving the rules.

40k is a Premium Product because you can collect Citadel (TM) miniatures to play with Games Workshop (TM) rules and read the Black Library (TM) fiction. Why oh why aren't their paints and modelling tools made by Hive Fleet Hobby? That would make it even MORE Premium.

After assembling the minis, I put all of it back in the box (except the terrain) and haven't looked at it since. They were such a pain to assemble, I just don''t want to look at them. You know how in 40k the Emperor of Mankind is a barely living corpse of an entity everyone constantly reveres but hasn't actually done anything tangibly useful in thousands of years, and whose existence is only possible by the countless sacrifice of his own hapless subjects? It's completely unrelated, I just think 40k fluff is cool.
