How to unlock Mindslayer: Go yeek Archmage. Put a point in arcane eye. Get glacial vapor. Throw it down out of range while the guy dies. Done. You can see him, but he doesn't activate because you're way out of range and he can't see you.

I have been told this works by friends but I haven't tried it myself. I'll try it later and confirm it.

So yes, this is correct.

Tribeam archmage to get through, dump points in vapor + arcane eye, sneak up and cast vapor on him til he dies of chills. I took off my lamp 'just in case'.

Decided to play a Shadows-based Doomed. Seems solid, shadows do a lot of damage. Reminds me of Oozemancer in some ways.

I was thinking of going crazy and running Darkness too, since the multipliers will be pretty hefty once maxed out. Does the damage increase from targets being in your darkness also affect your shadows, though? And does the darkness gently caress with their targeting, or do they see through it?

I know Mental Tyranny would let Force of Will abilities trigger Madness. Will it also convert some of the Shadows damage into Mind and let them trigger Madness as well?

Does Feed Power also boost the Shadows? I guess what I am asking is what effects the Shadows inherit when you gain percentile increases from other talent trees.

Also Tsuru how in God's name do you deal with the first 15 levels or so on a Shadows Doomed? Like people complain about Cursed having a slow start and Cursed ramps up six times as fast as Shadows Doomed. I just can't get far enough in to get Shadows rolling without getting bored and irritated at them being idiot spazzes.

I floated 2 points each in Willful Strike and Reproach and then slowly filled out the Shadows tree. It's a bit slow til you hit 8 or so, then it's fairly smooth. Once you hit 12 and can control them it's solid.

I wrote an entirely too long effort post about it a while back (possibly in this thread), but the cliffnotes version:

Choose whether you give two dicks about stealth or not. Non-stealth rogue in massive armor is actually totally viable even if it's kinda defeating the purpose of the class.

If you're going stealth, you probably want to go Cornac so you can use a category point to bump the tree. I even went so far as to take the Tricks of the Trade prodigy to boost it even further, but I wouldn't advocate that for everyone. Some artifacts boost it too like the Serpentine Cloak, I'm pretty sure you can get your mastery in the tree to 2.00 or higher without mastery amulets. Max Stealth and Unseen Actions ASAP so you have the best chance of remaining in stealth, and obviously max Shadowstrike very soon afterwards so you basically explode things when stealthed. Abuse Deadly Strikes and Dirty Fighting a lot since the former is instant, and the latter is either a stun or an instant attack. Take advantage of Nimble Movements because you can jump into the middle of a couple of dudes while stealthed and just gib them outright with Whirlwind. Or Windblade, since Windblade loving rules, though you may also prefer going for Giant Leap for extra mobility. If I hadn't gone Tricks of the Trade, I'd have taken Giant Leap, personally.

By midgame through the end of the game most enemies will barely have an idea of where the gently caress you are half the time and the other half of the time they will be screaming in agony because you just hit Windblade from stealth. Even Elendar had trouble reliably hitting me.

Unfortunately there's not a whole lot of specific things to say about them, most of it's just taking advantage of your skills and knowing what to prioritize. And keeping Stealth on auto-cast past a certain point because gently caress manually reactivating it all the time.

Thanks for this. What do you think of the Traps tree? At a glance it looks kind of gimmicky.

Also, I immediately got a Sun Paladin escort, which I betrayed for Mobility. I am trying to resist the temptation of foregoing stealth entirely to rely on Mobility/Misdirection/Dual Weapon Defense to dodge everything and then pick up AM to plug the spell side of things. I know that pretty much every good fixedart dagger is Arcane, though. :(

Initial Skirmisher impressions:

Heavily relies on Dex/cun (not a surprise), utilizes will to a lesser extent. The Will tree has some potentially good talents, but depends on how they scale.

Shield effects scale off dex and cun.

Minimal investment in generics, no exciting 'UNLOCK ME AT 1!' categories unless you love traps, play not-Cornac. I went Halfling for obvious reasons. :v:

Might be good as AM, especially if the Will tree scales well, not sure the ratio of magic to non-magic fixedart slings, as I don't have any sling experience prior. Either way you'll want an extra tree because of lack of generics to spend otherwise.

Unless Hurricane Shot scales well, I foresee some issues handling packs of monsters.

I foresee Mobility potentially being nice here. I'm going to try going AM, actually.

You can Vault over tress. Don't know about other terrain. It's red but you can still do it as long as there's an enemy between you and the tree.

Bash & Smash seems to scale well and hit really loving hard.

Breathing Room is 7.4 stam regen (and healing) at max rank. Doesn't appear to scale off Will.

Kneecapper's pin caps at 4 points for 2 turns. The slow is hefty. Good for kiting, but appear to have a lot of mobility tools as it is. Damage scales at +6% per point.

To anyone who used to lament how bad Grappling was: make a Cornac Brawler, unlock Grappling at level 1, and just build Grappling, Double Strike, and your finishers. I'm level 15 now and this build is a complete riot. It's fun as heck to play, has a pretty good balance between straightforward ease-of-use and tactical complexity (positioning is huge for your grappling talents), and is preposterously strong if you can use it right (I suplexed a venus flytrap so hard that I got Size Matters at level 14 in T1 gauntlets). It's also funny and badass as all get out - I couldn't grapple Norgos, so I grabbed a snake and suplexed it onto him; I couldn't grapple Shardskin, so I ran off and starting hurling loving ants at him like Donkey Kong chucking barrels ahahahaha holy poo poo

A big priority is gonna be getting access to equipment that increases my size, I think. As soon as I can grapple those bigger boss/elite enemies this poo poo is just going to be a nonstop pain train all the way to Suplex City.

It was 1/5/1/5 until I hit like level 48 because I ran out of things I wanted to spend class points on. I didn't pump antimagic shield because I always forgot to use it. Silence was a natural choice because it has an absolutely bonkers range at higher ranks and mana clash is kind of silly when you're already at 65+% crit chance with a ridiculous crit damage% in part due to the force of will multiplier.

Look at what the 5th point in Silence gets you, or 4th if you're an Oozemancer. Nothing but range, unless you're cat pointing that tree. This is a 'splitting hairs' thing, but just hitting specific breakpoints in abilities (usually radiuses, range or durations) and then stopping there can free up those points for more valuable options.

For Anti-Magic Shield you put it on auto-cast. Mana Clash is baller as gently caress though.

Genpei Turtle posted:

Eh, I think that's more of a mixed bag. A lot of it is good in that it makes a lot of skills more viable, especially the Storm Drake tree which kind of sucked, but there are significant nerfs to a lot of other really nice skills. I don't really think Wyrmic is a class that needs anything nerfed--it's an early game powerhouse to be sure, but the much harder late game more than makes up for that.

I haven't played in a while but based off my experience with Wyrmic:

Cold tree: Straight up buff to everything but the armor, and the armor was something that was oft skipped due to the cost when stacked with Anti-magic shield anyway. The armor scaling on its face was probably a wee bit strong, a couple points was a poo poo ton of armor.

Fire tree: Wing Buffet still garbage, Bellowing Roar needed a slight toning back. Devouring Flames is either a buff or a nerf depending if you liked stacking it with the harmony talent. Fire Breath was garbage. This tree was pretty much '5 points in roar, ignore the rest'. Now it might be worth points.

Higher tree: Buffs all around. Guile is exciting.

Sand: Swallow/quake flat out buffs, burrow heavily rebalanced and might have some very nice mid-fight utility/escape with instant usage. Sand Breath, probably not really a change in blindness uptime when coupled with maxed Guile in drawn out fights. More damage is nice.

Storm: Much needed buffs, was pretty garbage before beyond hitting breakpoints in lightning speed.

Venom: Slight buffs, more corrosive mist uptime is very nice.

Overall I think this is a nice selection of changes. I don't know what the 'much harder late game' is, but Wyrmic was piss easy from start to finish. These are pretty much all buffs aside from some durations being tweaked. The biggest thing is that there are numerous buffs to cooldowns which helps solve an issue Wyrmics had of blowing everything and being left with nothing for a few turns.
