One of the things I liked playing Nethack and Crawl way back when was playing them online. Not multiplayer, really, but seeing other player's ghosts and deaths, spectating, stuff like that. Does this have any servers or support like that? Gotta admit that any game with a feature like Turbo Ebola has me confused and intrigued, whatever your answer (ed) More prosaic question, how newbie friendly is this without extensive wiki/IRC guidance? (ed) Oh, just noticed ingame chat is built in. How about that, reading the OP providing information? vvv excellent Ciaphas fucked around with this message at 02:28 on Feb 8, 2014 |

I managed to unlock Cursed earlier and try one. My guy looked at a weapon and got all , but I decided to decline... whatever mechanic was being presented to me. (I then got murdered by Bill again.) What did I skip out on?

Do any player classes get that Fearscape Thunderdome thing? Because that is metal as hell and I want it. Current character, a Cursed, is doing better than I've ever done yet. Level 13, in the Old Forest. Glad I went back and shat all over Bill at level 10 though, that Transmogrification Chest is neato. Got a bitchin' trident too. Reminds me of another question. I've sussed out that green, blue, and purple are regular items with increasing amounts of random modifiers, but what are the off-orange and yellow text colors on some items signifying?

theshim posted:Green is one or two minor egos, blue is one major, purple is two major. Pink is rare, yellow is Artifact, and orange is random artifact, or randart for short. Randarts can roll with anything from complete crap to utterly insane egos on them, while Artifacts are fixed and always the same (and pretty rad). Thanks for the info. Don't think I've seen a pink item yet, how are those different from regular items? I'm a little colorblind, so just gonna check, randarts all have goofy names like "steel amulet 'Relgebers'" right? Turns out that trident I mentioned was indeed an artifact, The River's Fury. Lovely little thing.

I've gotten a lot of unlocks on my Cursed so far, most recent being Yeeks and... some tree for Archmages I guess? Tempests?. Soon I think I'm supposed to go to Dreadfell. ... I'm gonna die hilariously when I get home tonight, aren't I (as though in answer, I already know not to open vaults in Dreadfell. I'm opening all of the damned vaults )

I'm not reading those spoiler bars because damnit this isn't a proper Roguelike if I don't manage to get way in over my head at some point (then survive in blood and glory anyway because gently caress yeah Cursed) By the way, do all of the classes, races, or either have unique stories like the peaceful meadow was for Cursed? That was kind of awesome. Oh another question, there any way to copy text out of either chat or the combat log?

Is there any way to transmogrify stuff in your main inventory en-masse? Another question, the game seems to be loading slower and slower every day, and autoexploring is moving a lot slower than before too. Has anyone else noticed this?

Magres posted:Aw man I read a bunch of stone warden chat and had decided I wanted to make an adventurer that was stone warden but with a mindslayer tree so I could tri-wield shields because it'd be dumb as hell I've been trying to think of an OP-style massively-overblown-but-amusing post on Stone Wardens since I had as much success as I did, and because dual shields is conceptually pretty laffo. Don't want to subject anyone to my terrible writing though Corruptor's dead at level 12. I didn't really dig it, I think--I seem to gravitate toward classes that get stuck in, so mostly melee, and preferably tanky (whether by Cursed's evasion, or Stone Warden's twin shields and vines). Still want to give Paradox Mages a try once I can get them unlocked, though, because being The Doctor is amusing too

Magres I wrote a terrible 'pimp my class' thing for the second post if you want, 'cos I was bored. -- Stone Warden is what you get if Poison Ivy and a Dwarf Bulwark had a baby. After growing up this baby then decided that if shields are metal, then two of them would be metal as gently caress. He was right! Hey, you try arguing when your head has been exploded from impact with a hundred pound hunk of metal with massive corded dwarven muscle behind it. Actually, you wouldn't have anyone to argue with; all your friends already choked and bled to death from the thorned, eldritch vines entangling them. And that shield doesn't even have to hit; he could slam it into the ground so hard your tibia explode out of your legs from the earthquake. "That's okay," you tell yourself, "he's like miles away, he can't bash me from there!" Guess what, he just used those vines entangling you to burrow through the ground and pop up next to you, hale and hearty, shields-a-swingin'. Or maybe he yanked you to him, chin dragging and bouncing across the stony ground between you. "That's okay," you tell yourself, "I've got like five more friends beating him up, I'll be fine!" Except he just called up an eldritch barrier that explodes with all the force put into it by your friends (who are, by the way, now exploded across five miles of landscape by kilotons of sheer pissed-off nature). And if that's not enough, now there's three of them, his stone and crystalline essences called forth to bash heads. And when they're done bashing, they rush back to their owner in an explosive nova, whereupon he goes right back to tearing you apart with thorned vines, stone shards, and two giant blocks of gently caress you. Who the gently caress needs swords, anyway? then you get jumped by an orc high pyromancer and die horribly. whoops -- This game has sucked up so much of my loving time, good christ even when I'm not playing it.

I want to try Cursed again, actually. How are they supposed to handle large mobs (besides "find a corridor")? As I recall they don't have much AoE, though I'm sure I could be forgetting something. Also, now that I'm a bit more knowledgeable about the game, is it worth it to take the Cursed Auras thing, or does that leave my generics spread too thin?
