Yup. The first episode had richard kind, and was wonderful. The second was an average episode of wilty, entertaining but not laugh out loud funny. The stories are more like those of the early series; a bit mundane. It's cut down quite a bit because the CW apparently has over 9 minutes of ads, though.

I forget who was telling the story, but someone (a male celebrity) was once talking about Richard Kind ripping some rank farts at some sort of event or taping.

You'd think I'd be able to find it with google, but so far, nope.

If, like me, you were wondering why last night's Colbert was replaced last-minute with a repeat...

https://www.avclub.com/stephen-colbert-tests-positive-for-covid-tonights-late-1848827283

quote:

As Colbert joked in a tweet announcing the cancellation, tonight’s episode of his show was supposed to be focused on Netflix’s Ozark, with him set to interview both Laura Linney and the dreaded Jason Bateman. As-is, the show will instead air a rerun, allowing audiences to revisit some past moments with America’s favorite finger-snapping Grimace, Josh Brolin. (Also: The Who!)

Late Show was already set to go on hiatus next week so it’s easy to imagine that the show will be ready to return for its next scheduled air date of new episodes, May 2.

Kicking off the final week of April, and, as previously mentioned, Colbert's off this week. Nobody else is, though. On Friday, Shawn Mendes will "co-host" Tonight with Jimmy Fallon. He follows Cardi B, Kevin Hart, and Dave Grohl in "co-hosting" the show in recent years. And upstairs on 8, Fred's back on Seth... longtime Sheryl Crow drummer Fred Eltringham, that is!! Hahaha got you, Fred Armisen doesn't actually play in the band he ostensibly leads. Also note that despite his lead-in being on a planned vacation, Corden will be new this week. Wow! Let's aggregate some data!

That's a shame, but I suppose it's time for him to move on. I kind of regret not giving him a chance before the pandemic, though it really was the style and charm of his garage and no-audience shows that endeared itself to me in a way that the normal show absolutely didn't (and now that he's returned to the full normal show as of last week, I find myself less interested, though still watching.)

I was so happy with that whole bit. Always love Ya Burnt but the 90s throwback had me grinning like a goddamned idiot. Especially loved how it went over the heads of all the Zoomers in the audience and that he didn't give a hot gay gently caress. My only complaint is referring to it as "early 90s" when AOL CDs were firmly late 90s/early 2000s, it was floppy discs in the early-mid 90s

The problem with Seth is the way his show operates now doesn't work for 11:30. It's more longform and not designed around games like Fallon. Oddly, were it say 2006 it would of been weirdly experimental but Colbert and Seth share a similar space. Though, I think Seth is a actually a really good interviewer of the 5 network hosts.

I know this is from a few months ago, but this thread moves rather glacially, and I wanted an excuse to engage beyond just wanting to share how much I really loved Seth's Day Drinking segment with Post Malone, but that does dovetail nicely with your mention that he's easily the most relaxed and free-flowing interviewer of the bunch - probably owing to the fact that most people going on an 12:30 show don't really care about hitting all the pre-interview/plug beats as much as they do on the 11:30 shows.

Formulaic though it may be, what I genuinely love about Seth's show is that the energy he brings to the bits, and regularly winking at the writers and crew (who knew Wally's delivery was so good?) means that when he breaks, he also addresses it with the reason instead of just giggling like a moron before going on to some toothless low-hanging attempt at a zinger like Fallon.

He's also the only late night host that consistently digs into issues and has a clear stance on these things. He and his writers are obviously the most progressive team on late night, but they articulate the outrage over some truly despicable poo poo going on all the time. That time slot he has means he can cuss up a storm when he's upset and nobody at S&P at NBC is going to bat an eye, and the catharsis is that much better for it.

It may not have the "gently caress it, who's actually up watching this at 12:30?" weirdness of the previous versions of Late Night, but it's the only one I usually watch all the way through because the monologue is mercifully short, A Closer Looks are cathartic, and the recurring bits always end up better than I think they're going to be. On top of all that, he rolls with interview guests way more naturally than anyone since Ferguson.

Seven years in, I think he's finally figured out that perfect mix of "none of the people upstairs care, so let's just bring the audience along like friends and rip on the writers/crew a little." He's mentioned it in interviews since coming back, but once he was back in the studio (even once audiences returned too), he ditched the rehearsal and that spontaneous energy has really come through in more than just him also losing his suit.

But yeah, watch that Post Malone bit. It's hard to imagine any of the other late night hosts engaging that genuinely, right down to the god-awful Cheers theme rendition.

Cannot agree more. I only wish he did more than one non-ACL comedy bit a week; Tuesdays have become the de facto "we can do a bit" night, and almost always there is only one bit on that night. The act 4 comedy bit, long a staple of the Late Night franchise, is sorely missed.

I feel like one of the writers must be reading this thread, because they literally did an Act 4 3 bit on Seth with loving bees and it was so good I woke my roommate up because I couldn't stop laughing. It's probably the weirdest, best-delivered bit they've done in ages, and I feel like you somehow called it into being. For that, I thank you, because while my stomach is sore and my roommate is cross with me, it was all worth it.

BEHOLD! https://www.nbc.com/late-night-with-seth-meyers/video/best-case-scenario-worst-case-scenario-and-one-with-bees/NBCE116421671

Haha I was surprised too! I am happy to take credit for willing into existence more comedy. His "BEES" voice is reminiscent of his Werner Herzog voice from Corrections, glad he got to use it on the main show. And now that it's on Youtube, nobody has to deal with the nightmare that is NBC.com's janky-rear end video player!
