If I hear someone in real life refer to women as "females" it's jarring and awkward. Only one female person I know does it and it's not just me (an internet feminist dumbass) who picks up on it as sounding weird.

It's in the context it's used by the person using it, I think. I wouldn't find it weird to hear it used by someone doing a study of all human females. I would find it weird to hear it used like, "There was an HB10 white female on the bus, did I ever want to cream in her." When used by MRA types it always sounds like they are referring to women like test subjects/objects as opposed to human beings. I guess I think it's weird to call men males in the same way. And yeah, blacks too. "There was a black on the bus." "There was a black dude on the bus."

We caught my uncle making really horrible racist comments on YouTube a few years ago and it was all brushed under the carpet as "oh its just the internet, he'd never actually be a racist in real life" and a few months later he's up in court for chasing a black man away from the door shouting racist abuse when he came collecting money for a charity. He's like a 40yo virgin as well so he's probably an MRA by now.

I have two friends who post voiceformen poo poo all the time that I have to call on their bullshit. I know many Nice Guys who believe MRA crap. I dated a guy whose best friend was a straight-up, gross as it gets, PUA. I don't think someone has to identify as MRA or PUA or incel to be one, just like someone who stands up for women's equality won't necessarily identify as a feminist.
