If I had never seen Classic Who and you asked me if the Psychic Paper or the Sonic Screwdriver was the new gadget added in the New series, I wouldn't have guessed the paper. Not that the Doctor really needs "proper" authority when he just barges in wherever he pleases anyway.

2nd Doctor didn't need any papers in War Games.

They're perfect for walks or long car drives. I can attest. I listened to virtually the whole of S1 of the 8th Doctor ones (starting with Blood of the Daleks) as I drove across Washington state.

Yeah. I frequently drive across Arizona listening to them. Big Finish is good for keeping me engaged during long night drives.

And Star Trek 09 and the latest Mortal Kombat are both a reboot, remake, prequel, and sequel all at the same time.

I think there were a few things that went into the decision. They wanted to update the Cybermen design like they did so successfully for the Daleks, and I think for the most part they succeeded there since I quite liked the new design. RTD absolutely loved Spare Parts and wanted to do a similar origin story, but he didn't want to negate the audio, and since he needed a parallel earth story to set up for the finale, it all just kind of slotted together and made sense to combine the three.

Rose does actually mention the Cyberman head they saw in Dalek too and the Doctor explains that there are Cybermen in their universe as well, so I don't think the original intention was to replace the Mondasians... except of course every time after season 2 that they showed up in the RTD era they were explicitly the Cybus versions even when you had to really stretch to explain how they got there. It wouldn't have even been a copyright thing, since they still had to acknowledge Kit Peddler and Gerry Davis, so I'm guessing it was down to not wanting to fiddle with the designs and remove the big Cybus logo they put front and center.

Would Mondasian and Cybus Cybermen be hostile toward each other? Everyone always mentions Spare Parts, but I also loved The Silver Turk. A small band of Cybermen raised hell in that one. I'd love to see the two kinds meet in a story.

I'm in the middle of Eyes of The Master, couple questions, but what stories do Liv and the Eminence come from originally?

I'd love Star Trek. I don't even care what Star Trek they do, as long as they can make Jeffery Combs a regular.

Star Trek is usually background noise for me anyway. Its verbose nature would work drat well in radio format. Star Trek's 50th anniversary is happening in what, next year? Maybe Big Finish will be able to cut a licensing deal.

I've been binging through Doctor Who on Netflix and I got to The End of Time. By all accounts, it's still terrible, but I just noticed that The Master as a child looks like a little Delgado Master sans beard. :3:

I'm also almost done listening to The Sandman and holy hell do I wanna see Colin Baker school an army of lizardmen.

One thing that bugged me about Waters of Mars. The Doctor explains to Brooke that the Dalek that she saw as a child didn't murder her because it recognized that Brooke's death on Mars in 2059 is a fixed point in history... but if the Daleks intended to be successful in their invasion of Earth, then wouldn't that have prevented humanity from reaching Mars in the first place?

This leads to two possibilities. Either the Daleks knew they were going to lose, or that Dalek was going to come back with a cage of some sort, transport 6 year old Brooke to Mars in 2059 and then throw a meteor at her to preserve the fixed point. WHICH ONE IS MORE LIKELY!? :psyduck:

Having listened to Zagreus a while ago, thanks for putting up this summary because it all clicked for me again. The universe is a giant GPS - of course it requires fixed locations to calculate every other object's location. It's pretty simple when you put it like that.

While that is a good explanation, equating an event like Pompeii to a chromatic road map is a bit cold.

I'm listening to Doctor Who and the Pirates right now and Evelyn's narraration and added color to her storytelling is just adorable. :3: And of course 6 would have his enemies compliment him when he's telling his side of the story. I can tell everyone had fun recording this story.

Speaking of Whomobile and Bessie, I was sure that in Dark Eyes 2 that The Doctor was going to pull out Bessie from that garage, not a Volkswagen Beetle. He was in the 1970s after all. Though I guess that would have meant him stealing it from Three.

I didn't like the Time War looking like a Lucasfilm space battle instead of the reality-warping war between Great Old Ones and Outer Gods we were told about.

That part was a bit of a let down, but I still cling to the explanation that the war probably started this way, but too much time and lives were lost, and they ended up using ancient tactics. Like the war between the Thals and Kaleds on Skaro before them resembling WWI.

Peter Capaldi is going to be the closest we'll get to David Bowie as The Doctor.
http://www.express.co.uk/news/showbiz/485534/The-Thin-White-Doc-New-Doctor-Who-based-on-David-Bowie

Some British website that David Bowie's Facebook feed shared posted:

The 55-year-old took inspiration from music legend David Bowie when embarking on his tenure as the 12th incarnation of the Time Lord.

His sleek costume was praised when it was previewed in January but the decision to include a buttoned-up white shirt was inspired by Bowie, according to insiders.

The singer sported a similar look as the Thin White Duke, his persona on the Station To Station album cover and in the film The Man Who Fell To Earth.

The source said Capaldi had decided Bowie was the ideal template for his Doctor: “He explained he drew inspiration for his Doctor Who look from his ‘scrapbook of ideas’. He thought Bowie was the perfect look.”

It was no secret that Peter was a Ziggy Stardust fan, and the actor revealed last year he attended three out of four Bowie concerts as a young fan in Glasgow, missing the last one only because he couldn’t afford it.

No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 per cent Rebel Time Lord

Peter Capaldi

For the show, he sports a sharp black waistcoat and red-silk lined coat from Scottish-firm Crombie, as well as all-purpose Doc Martens boots.

He will also keep his Scottish accent, unlike David Tennant who changed his to sound more southern. Christopher Eccleston gave his ninth Doctor a northern accent.

Capaldi says of the Doctor: “He’s woven the future from the cloth of the past. Simple, stark, and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 per cent Rebel Time Lord.”

The actor was photographed with co?star Jenna Coleman’s character Clara in the first image of the pair in the new Tardis.

Fans were excited when his darker persona was showcased in a 15-second teaser clip on Friday. The Doctor looks sinister, silhouetted against a fire, asking: “Clara, be my pal and tell me – am I a good man?”

A nervous-looking Clara replies: “I don’t think I know who the Doctor is any more.”

The first episode of the new series airs on August 23 on BBC One. Capaldi is hoped to take the Doctor in a new direction, with some taking the outfit as an indication that the series will be scarier and a bit more serious.

Some 6.2 million viewers tuned in last August to find out Capaldi was the new Doctor.

Capaldi, best known for his role as foul-mouthed spin-doctor Malcolm Tucker in the BBC series The Thick Of It, had already appeared on the show, in the 2008 adventure The Fires Of Pompeii, as a Roman merchant.

Suddenly the "Rebel Time Lord" quote makes more sense. Bowie Doctor Who. Bowie Metal Gear Solid V. David Bowie's been crossing over into all my interests lately.
