FX is doing an excellent job editing the previews. The one last week made it look like Phillip was on the rooftop with Stan. It faked me out. I was looking forward to that confrontation all week.

Except the preview begins with a shot of the roof guy's face as he loads his rifle.

Considering how wrapped up you guys have been about the warehouse scene, (Seriously, he was a loving janitor, I doubt he was willing to risk dying to protect a milling machine) I'm surprised that there hasn't been a bigger discussion regarding the Aunt scene. It was just so strange that I feel like the showrunners were hoping you wouldn't think about it too much. What exactly does that woman do the rest of the time? Is that photo of Elizabeth always hanging there, or did someone tip her off in advance? It was such a huge stretch that it pulled me out of the episode.

The Americans definitely seems like a prestige series to FX, so an early renewal isn't surprising. Hopefully ratings stay decent.

Elizabeth has her moments. She was torn up last episode after she watched Larrick kill Lucia. I actually found it really jarring when Phillip said "it's easy for you" when he had comforted her during her breakdown only a week earlier.

Killing US military personnel, blackmailing a gay man, and allowing comrades to be murdered are all okay, but by god if you stop your daughter from going to church.

It's there to show that Elizabeth and Phil, despite seemingly (particularly in Phil's case) having ingrained themselves in American culture, still hold their beliefs above all. Sure, the writers can make Elizabeth rant about Reagan and the horrors of capitalism, but showing that their resolve is so high that they are blinded by hatred and willing to push their daughter away is much more powerful.

He wanted to make a statement more than interrogate her, plus he'd already made it clear that she wasn't getting out of her predicament alive. In SEAL Beecher's sociopathically-driven mind, he probably felt he was doing her a favor, since the fate that would've befallen her for getting herself compromised (even though it wasn't her fault) probably would've stretched on agonizingly longer than him just breaking her neck and ending it quickly - that's why I think he at least told her she'd "done her job well."

I'm also guessing the message on the inside of the toilet paper roll was "I'm compromised" and her leaving the toilet seat up was what got Elizabeth's attention. That's just something you don't see in the apartment of a woman living alone.

The one sad thing is that Drew Carey's brother (I don't know his name) had better 'secret compartment' security than Kate.

The message on the inside of the roll was "Get Jared out." Elizabeth reads it off during the episode.
