Long may she reign.Yes, the show is finally back. No All-Stars, no Drag U, and a poor excuse for a Season One replay later and we need some fabulousness to perk us up this dark February. Mama Ru is going to lead us into the light! RuPaul's Drag Race is a competitive reality show where Drag Queen compete in a series of challenges to prove that they have the Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve, and Talent to be crowned the Next Drag Superstar and win a lot of money. The girls complete in a mini-challenge that usually gives the winner(s) some kind of advantage in the main challenge, which can be anything from building costumes to acting to putting straight men in drag, and then there is a runway show. After talking with the judges, two queens are placed in the Bottom Two and they battle it out in the Lip Sync For Your Life  . The loser of the LSFYL goes home, and the winner of the challenge may or may not have immunity.I know that it sounds like standard fare so far, but this show is just a joy to watch. The important thing to keep in mind is that most of these people are professional Drag Queens. They know how to speak, they know how to perform, they know how to put on a show, and at this point they should know exactly what they have to gain from appearing on the program. Sure, it would be nice to win $100K (or more?) but the real benefit to being on the show is the exposure. Each of these queens knows that simply being on RPDR is a huge career opportunity. The longer they are on the show, the more we get to know them. The more we know them, the more likely they'll get booked to do shows. If you are prepared and savvy enough (Willam, Detox, Jinkx, etc.) the sky is the limit. These aren't 18-year-olds thinking that Tyra is going to make them a supermodel or decently singing twinks who are going to get chewed up and spit out by the industry, it takes real balls to be a Drag Queen so don't cry for them We're likely to see the following: - At least one singing challenge - Group choreography - Dress construction - The Snatch Game, a take off of the classic TV show Match Game - The Library is Open, whereupon the queens read each other to filth - Acting challenges - Makeup challenges - Makeovers for non-drag queens - Hot guys in underwear - Etc. NEW THIS YEAR: THEY MADE THE GIRLS PROVE THEY HAVE A SNATCH GAME CHARACTER!!! I can't tell you how much I hated those queens who had no clue. You got a pass in Season Two, hunites, but NO MORE.RuPaul's Drag Race Untucked usually comes on after the main show to feature conversations between the Queens as they await the results of the judging. Personally, I don't care for it but I get the appeal. The Judges RuPaul Charles  The leader of the merry bunch, we thank Ru for coming up with this tasty weekly confection that is RuPaul's Drag Race. What else is there to say? Okay, let's be real. The winner of the show is picked by Ru. The person who is kicked off each week is picked by Ru. This is Ru's baby. It exists to give glory to Ru and help sell her albums (now on iTunes). You thought it was bad to ignore Tim Gunn? DON'T IGNORE RU. Michelle Visage  (That picture is everything forever.) Every once in a while I remember that Michelle wasn't an original judge on the show and I have to pause and collect my wits. Michelle has been friends with RuPaul forever. She co-hosted with Ru on her VH1 talkshow, has been a more than welcome addition to the judging panel since the third season, and is the one who really goes on the road with the queens to help push the brand. She's fabulous, and I can't wait to see how big her breasts are this year. Santino Rice  Ugh. Why is he still on the show? Count on him to cut someone down in a horrible manner and for Twitter and Tumblr to get all up in a tizzy. The Pit Crew  Eye candy, props, set movers... you call them and they'll show up in their skivvies. There will also be a lot of special guest judges and extra special guest judges. They include Neil Patrick Harris, Paula Abdul, Heather McDonald, Bob Mackie, Adam Lambert, and Sheryl Lee Ralph. Notable Queens from past seasons (work in progress): Willam Belli and DWV   Willam Belli is this thread's spirit animal. She first appeared in Season Four, kicked rear end, and then got kicked off for... reasons. Right when she got kicked off, she seized the moment and released the song "Chow Down (at Chick-fil-A)" with fellow Queens Detox Icunt and Vicky Vox. Their group has eventually become known as DWV, and they travel around the world performing their songs. When Detox was released from last season, they released the sublime "Boy is a Bottom". Last year, one of the best things ever happened. Willam started doing a weekly The Soup-style web show called Willam's Beatdown. Something happened, the show ended, and Willam can't use the name. He's promising the return of Billam's Wheatdown (for legal reasons) this year. There have been some slice-of-life videos of DWV on the road under this label, hopefully we'll get back to her reading to filth soon. She's also the reason we say "...goddamit" all the time. Just watch. She's amazing, and it kills me that I've never seen her live.  More to come... In the end, this show is all about fun and acceptance. Just relax and enjoy the ride. If you can't love yourself, how in the hell are you going to love anybody else?

I refuse to be angry about Darienne still being in the competition. Why? - Her lip syncs were better than Ben's, or at least since this week was a virtual tie the previous one kicked Dela's rear end - While they didn't work, I appreciated what Dar tried to do with the first and third looks - Neither of them were going to win anyway, and at least now Dela has a shot at Miss Congeniality. - It wasn't Bianca going home. - It's not half as bad as Jocelyn not being in the bottom two for the Interview challenge
