Huh I was going to reinstall and check since I haven't used it for years but it appears to be pulled off the market.

I pretty much read all my comics with the Windows Cover App on my Surface these days.

Just did a search for it and the first thing that came up was a reddit post from two years ago that it is gone from the Play Store.

I guess best case scenario at this point, since the app’s been dead for years now, is hope to find a cracked version that doesn’t do the license check

This is in fact what I did, since ComicRack is officially completely abandoned I'm gonna go ahead and drop a link to the cracked version in spoilers

What does ComicRack offer these days that alternatives don't? I remember I used it for a while but it just seemed like a lot of overhead to read books. I think I went to Perfect Viewer for a while until I got my Surface

YACReader is working on an Android app. Right now it's remote viewing only, but it's hands down the best reader and library manager on iOS. I have the iPad Pro and the Samsung S9 and I can't wait until the Android version is out because right now I'm reading all my new books only on the S9 since it has Kindle on it and I'd love to be able to access my archived books as well without having to be connected to a network. Right now I can only do that on the iPad.

admittedly, it's probably mostly inertia in that it's just the main app i've been using for years. my other comic app is CDisplayEx, which is still maintained and actually is able to read my smb network share drive, but i find the reader part of the experience more robust and customizable in CR. and actually i think the library ui feels a lot more "functional" and not very nice too look at in CDE as well

I use perfect view on android and it works, I don't use any network functionality, whatever comics I read on my tablet are on the tablet so I can't help anyone there, but it seems to work well for me.

Yeah library management was a big thing to me. All I wanted was something like Plex for comics, where I could have my books on my main computer and "stream" to my tablet. YACreader was great looking but didn't have Android. The Cover App works PERFECTLY for my Windows tablet, but alas it's Windows only. But it's nice to have cover art and all that download automatically

I've been using Codex for this, and am quite happy with it. It doesn't need a dedicated app, either, the browser reading experience is quite nice. Biggest problem is that it can't download for offline reading, although you could probably get that using an OPDS client.

YACReader is on Android now. It's early days and literally only streams to the tablet right now. I'm waiting for it get full library functionality before I really embrace it because I'd like to manage my archive directly on my tablet when not at home.

Alright I'm looking to read the new skybound transformers and gi Joe stuff, and I haven't touched comixology since the Amazon poo poo a couple years ago. Is it any easier to navigate Amazon for single issues? And do I use the comixology app or something else?

Endless Mike

No, Amazon still sucks rear end for finding single issues. You still use the Comixology app.

The only improvement is now you can put things in a digital basket and buy all at once instead of having to buy each individually.

Well, I wouldn't have Ol' Chomper here, that's for sure!
A feature I'm still desperately missing from "Amazon Presents: The Comixology Experiencetm" is when it'd tell you if single issues were part of a collected book. Back in the day if I was like "hey that run looks cool" I could click on the first issue of said run and find out immediately if it was collected/how much of it was. Sucks rear end that I have to sleuth around and peck at available collections to see if it is, all with the very real possibility that it's not and I'm just wasting my time.

Amazon is sunsetting the Comixology app on December 4, and it will be merged with the Kindle app. Not unexpected, and sounds like it won't be too different, but I guess we'll see!

quote:

We’re writing to let you know about upcoming changes to the way that you will access and read your Comixology digital comics, graphic novels, and manga titles. On December 4, 2023, we will be merging the Comixology and Kindle applications on iOS, Android, and Fire OS. Starting today, any books previously purchased on Comixology will automatically be visible in your library on the Kindle app. The upgraded Kindle app experience is available now; however, you may continue reading your books in the Comixology app until December 4, 2023. You can read more about the upcoming changes here.

Hello Comics fans,

We’re writing to let you know about upcoming changes to the way that you will access and read your Comixology digital comics, graphic novels, and manga titles. On December 4, 2023, we will be merging the Comixology and Kindle applications on iOS, Android, and Fire OS. Starting today, any books previously purchased on Comixology will automatically be visible in your library on the Kindle app. The upgraded Kindle app experience is available now; however, you may continue reading your books in the Comixology app until December 4, 2023. You can read more about the upcoming changes here.

We’ve been hard at work upgrading the Kindle app to deliver the great digital comics, graphic novels, and manga experience you’re accustomed to in the Comixology app, including:

Your library in the Kindle app now groups your issues, volumes, and omnibuses from the same series together.

The Kindle app now allows you to hide and unhide specific comics, graphic novels, and manga in your library. Titles you’ve already set to hide via the Comixology app will automatically be hidden in the Kindle app.

With your complete library of books now conveniently in one place, you can select ‘Comics & Manga’ from the in-app filter menu to quickly find just your comics, graphic novels, and manga titles.

Members of Comixology Unlimited, Kindle Unlimited, or Amazon Prime can borrow comics, graphic novels, and manga titles directly in app. Tap the ‘Home’ button from the bottom nav, select the ‘Explore’ button in the top left directly under the search bar, then select the ‘Comics, Manga, and Graphic Novels’ button listed under the ‘More categories’ label. You may also continue to browse for content on the web via https://www.amazon.com/comixology.

You may also continue to read your Comixology books on the web via read.amazon.com. If you prefer to read on your Kindle E-reader, you can go to Your Content and Devices to send individual titles to download on your e-reader.

I thought I posted about it before, but I didn't see anything and got reminded of this again elsewhere. Some dudes are trying to get a comixology replacement off the ground. Has stuff from a bunch of major indies, but Marvel and DC aren't on the service (yet?). no android app yet either but that's allegedly coming out sometime this month

I believe the Big Two have exclusives with Amazon sadly, but this looks super promising if the Android app works well. :)

Not really BSS related, but on the topic of libraries, I learned fairly recently that they often have video games too. If, like me, you miss renting a Nintendo game for the weekend, check your library!

Hehehe, I had to renew trials of mana 3 times, return it, wait for it to returned again, then sign it out for one more time to finish. Would have been different if it was paid rentals.

I live right next to one of the smaller branches of the Detroit Public Library. Like literally next door. It rules hard. They've got a ton of physical TPBs too. Getting a library card in Detroit was a whole new era of comic reading for me.
