So I guess that Besties "We'll put an episode out before the end of February" thing is kinda shot, which was a shame, because the January episode was pretty good. It might be too early to count them out, but I'm pessimistic.

Monthly is fine as long as the quality and nature of the content warrants it, which seems to be the case here. *Stares at the Besties* Speaking of Polygon, I gave a listen to Friends List and while fine from a content perspective, even I can sit next to a decent microphone. The audio quality is so bad as to be distracting. Sure its a daily thing, but still there are things you can do.

It's like picking up a book called "How to Cook" and having it talk about being a waiter at a restaurant, famous people who have eaten before, and animals you can buy who will entertain you while you cook.

I enjoyed the discussion, and gently caress the marketing guy who thought calling it iconic was a good idea. It is from a marketing standpoint, but eventually all the words that mean good things are going to be all polluted with marketing that they won't mean anything.

I waited on finishing my playthrough of Alpha Protocol before listening to WOFF and it's a testament to the game that the playthrough you guys described varied so wildly from mine. Mechanically I agree, and it was a gem of a game that hides behind it's pretty terrible first act.

NickPancakes posted:As an aside to this, what would you guys like to see from Comrade! that would improve things but doesn't break the model too much (indie games, short eps)? Gary has pitched the "bundle" idea, where we get a new indie bundle on the first day and quickly push an episode briefly covering all of the games, good or bad. That will probably happen soon. Launch a sister cast "Check Yourself Bro" where you play bad AAA games. In terms of helpful suggestions, there should be a bumper crop of indie games at the end of the month as Something Awful Gamedev Challenge 9 is currently ongoing. The theme is public access. Early screens and demos lead me to believe that whatever the result will be, there will be some laughs to be had. Basically do an episode on those when they come out.

Good summation of the current bullshit on the internet Thumbs guys. I'm actually kinda sad Kotaku and Polygon are actually responding to it by making contributors not contribute/disclose all contributions to crowdfunding. Not that transparency is a bad thing, but seriously who gives a gently caress if Ben Kuchera backed a game or once gave a homeless dude 5 dollars and that man was Nick Breckon. You also voiced a thought I had earlier in the week, in that this is the grandest conspiracy for the lowest of stakes. A free game on Steam and a modest income making games? To hear some people tell it, Zoey is a evil mastermind succubus who has not only ruined games forever but does so from a tower of gold.

This is a opinion piece of Word Realms. Warning, the following may contain subjective opinions Disclosure - Zak read an email from me once on Video Games Hotdog. Also we have both been at DragonCon at the same time, though the author is unclear if he met Zak at the time. An investigation is ongoing. The author has financially supported Zak by buying this game. He would consider supporting him on patreon, but Zak has not created a video of him talking over a picture of a hotdog yet. The author will do his very best that this close personal relationship to interfere. Also it is rumored he played The Secret of Horse Island with Riff at one point but this is also under investigation. Word Realms is a good game. You'd probably enjoy it. The thing I like about the feminist frequency videos is they seem to have an actual effect, demonstrated by the designer of Saints Row 3 and 4 in an interview with Polygon I think, saying that they "got called on their poo poo" in 3 and made improvements (but not perfection) in 4 in terms of gender equality. I've played both, and while both have their problems, 4 is a remarkably subversive progressive and sex positive game, while still being a silly AAA shoot em bang bang.

I'm ok with most podcasting advertising. Idle Thimbs has my respect because of their decision to drop World of Tanks. It's pay the bills eat the probably delicious snacks and make a joke domain, harmless farts. In podcast but not video game podcast, My Brother My Brother and Me is getting worrisome. The last or second to last episode had something that sounded like it was one step above a payday loan. That poo poo worries me.

Quality Control will appeal to those who get annoyed with the round table talk about your day stuff. It's all business, talk about the game, Justin makes some snarky quips, the end. You mileage will probably vary on how much you like Justin's style and the game they are chatting about.

He's trying to piggyback on the Firewatch hype. Its not illegal, and not the worst thing but it reveals a kind of artistic bankruptcy and puts him in the tier of scumbag that creates flappy bird clones and the people who make "Snakes on a Train" and "Transmorphers" Edit : unless it's some sort of meta satire, where instead of the narrative is revealed through gameplay and exploration, nothing is revealed, and narrative is somehow taken way through gameplay. I also enjoyed Sirlin's first podcast. These weren't earth shattering revelations, but a really good discussion on some common traps a lot if games seem to fall into. I'm not a fighting game guy, but the topics are broadly applicable, and the fighting game specific stuff was explained in a way I could understand. If your interested in design, probably worth a listen, otherwise not. I wish I disagreed with something he said, because me just saying yep doesn't spark any discussion.

Re: Video games being young The first retail video game released in 1971, 43 years ago. The first commercial movie by contrast was released in 1898, 116 years ago. Coincidently in 1941, 43 years into commercial movie production, Citizen Kane was released. Ipso facto e pluribus habeus corpus, Goty 2014 will be the Citizen Kane of video games. And to throw my small podcasting experience into the ring, it's incredibly difficult to get two or three people to commit to producing something weekly, let alone daily if you wanted to get real serious about making podcasting a job. I imagine part of the reason YouTube works is the monetization is built in and the infrastructure isn't built on coco butter nom noms. I can't buy podcasting reads on my budget but I can throw money into the YouTube pit.

Vinny's story is a nightmare come to life for me. Once I came home to a house where water was literally pouring out of the ceiling in every room (thankfully I was renting at the time).
