DQ 8 is a good one. The DS remakes of 4-6 are all real good, too; 5 might be my favorite. Um, don't play 9 or 10, 'cause it's when they turned dragon quest into lovely MMOs i guess. 7 is super long and has a weird beginning section, and is not for everyone. You can't really go wrong with DQ, they're just simple well-made games.
