Stuff I'll probably check out at least one episode of or interests me in some way:

JoJo Part 3 - It's JoJo.
Ping Pong - It's a Yuasa anime.
Captain Earth - I enjoyed Star Driver from beginning to end, so I'm looking forward to what Igarashi and Enokido cook up next. Hopefully we get good Enokido (Utena, most of Star Driver) and not bad Enokido (some parts of Star Driver, that scene in Diebuster where a dude goes "I don't wanna grow up so I'm gonna rape a robot").
If She Triggers A Flag - Normally this would be the show of the season I watch two or three episodes of, bemoan that it isn't doing anything interesting with the concept while being even creepier than you'd think it could be in the worst-case, and curse light novels from the bottom of my soul. But the promotional material makes me want to throw up already so I'll just skip to the end and go "gently caress 99% of light novels" and sit this one out.
Black Bullet - I've actually heard some decent things about this one. I've seen a few posts elsewhere comparing it favorably to Nitro+ material. I'm not particularly hopeful or optimistic that it'll be good though because gently caress 99% of light novels.

EDIT: Also Kamen Rider Gaim will be continuing. We're 20 episodes in and so far the series just keeps getting better and better. You should check it out if you haven't seen it yet.

Aldnoah.Zero has some cast announced and a promo video. It looks an awful lot like a Sunrise not-Gundam show. Hiroyuki Sawano (Attack on Titan, Kill la Kill) is attached for the music.

Gargantia's followup project has been confirmed to be a two episode OVA released this Fall. So between Gaim (regular reminder: please watch Kamen Rider Gaim it's great), Psycho-Pass 2, Aldnoah.Zero, and Gargantia OVAs I'm wondering just how Urobuchi is going to be shuffled around here. Probably the Gargantia OVAs will get Gargantia'd and Urobuchi won't actually be writing anything there. I'm most worried about Psycho-Pass 2, which Urobuchi hasn't been confirmed on yet, although he has retweeted some stuff regarding it so he's probably still involved somehow.

EDIT: Oh yeah, there's a promo out for Expelled From Paradise.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwYtT76j_Qc

EDIT 2: Ahhhh I see. Buried right there at the bottom of the article ANN mentions that the person billed for series composition for Aldnach.Zero isn't Urobuchi but a guy who does a shitload of adaptation stuff (ranging from "really good" to "god awful"). So I guess Aldnach.Zero is the one getting Gargantia'd this year.

EDIT 3: I'd probably care more about the above usually but Gaim will still be airing in the Summer and it owns so I'm not really upset by this development.

"Hey I think you're a bear." "Yes. No. Maybe."
"Wanna be 'friends'?" "Yes let's be 'friends'."

And then Ikuhara blasts off into space by farting lilies.

Opinions on shows.

Inugami-san: This sure is a 4koma adaptation. Kinda wanna punch the twintailed girl in the second episode. Dull and not that funny.

JoJo Part 3: Looking good so far, but there's already signs of the production team having to cheap out (that shot of Jotaro falling down the stairs was hilarious). Hopefully this won't get as bad as some of part 1 was. Still too early in the game to give it a real verdict, but looks good so far.

Captain Earth: Star Driver team makes Star Driver-ish anime. It's pretty fun so far, but I'm not a big fan of the character designs. The launch sequence for the Earth Engine was great. The ending of the second episode warmed me on the main character quite a bit.

The Mangaka and His Assistants: This sure is an adaptation of a Hiroyuki manga. I'm kind of disappointed they couldn't/didn't get the drama CD VAs to reprise their roles, we could've had a goofball ecchi manga artist voiced by Jun Fukuyama. It's the sort of really dumb crap that I can't actually get mad at for being bad because it's very self aware about the whole thing (and not in that "wink wink nudge nudge" sort of way light novels tend to do but with a big glowing neon sign with "THIS IS STUPID" in giant letters). It's a very low effort adaptation but I guess that kind of fits? Might watch more, might forget that it exists entirely.

Chaika: I couldn't find any overtly awful looking stuff about this after a two minute Google search so I gave this a try. So I'm watching this and I'm like "This is the chuu2est poo poo I've ever seen but its a nice setup for a fantasy adventure show I'm kinda curious where it goes from here" and then they introduce the non blood related overly attached younger sister character and had a scene with the goth lolita character covered in bread dough all suggestive-like and I'm like "WELP". I did last through the second episode, which was better. If it sticks with the action and avoids the dumb light novel style fanservice poo poo I can see this being enjoyable.

Mekaku City Actors: 22 minutes of a shut-in MC being hosed with by Kana Asumi while crazy stuff happens around him because of magic eyes as animated by Shaft. OK I guess I'm down for now.

Akuma no Riddle: Somehow works a lot better as an anime than it did as a manga. Sugita hamming it up is always entertaining. Will probably stick around.

Ping Pong: Very well done to the great surprise of no one. Yuasa stylin on hitting balls back and forth, good times.

You're not a true anime fan until you've experienced anime burnout at least once. This sounds like a good plan.

Seriously for all of my complaining about light novels I've certainly sat through worse over in VN land to get to the "good parts", but that's harder with anime and people are kind of willfully ignoring and understating the unsavory aspects of NGNL right now in favor of HEY GUYS JOJO/ACE ATTORNEY REFERENCES, particularly when recommending the show to others. The basic premise actually does look pretty cool by taking the "dorks get transported to game world" premise and not even trying to hide how ridiculous it is and just having fun with it, but you should probably be aware of the awful looking bits too before jumping in.

Seems like it'd be easier to skip to good bits with anime what with fast forward being available from the start and the fact that a VN usually requires you to actively contribute to advancing things.

You'd think that, but in my experience the awful parts in VNs are usually all relegated to individual scenes that you can just hold CTRL until they're over. Whereas with anime it tends to be more pervasive throughout a work and harder to see coming, and therefore harder to ignore. Like, to avoid dumb poo poo in a VN I'd have to hold CTRL for 20 seconds every 2-10 hours and it's usually really obvious when something retarded is about to happen, but for avoiding dumb poo poo in a light novel adaptation with particularly bad content I'd have to click around a bunch to fast forward multiple times an episode, and even then you'd have random pantyshots or cameltoe or dumb camera angles all over the place. That's most of the reason why I can stand reading 18+ visual novels but light novel adaptations drive me up the wall.

I also enjoyed the fact that I knew nothing about the book going in (I'm a fan of the author's other works so I didn't bother looking up info beforehand) and it turned out to be a really good story about love between young girls and singing when I was getting mad at this season for it's mediocre idol and yuri anime.

Those rankings aren't really good for determining "ADTRW thought it was best" because they're not weighted at all. It's "this many people ranked it in their top five shows of the year". It's good as a measure of popularity but not for relative opinions on quality.

Essentially, yes. The first five or so episodes were fun enough but the novelty wore off pretty fast. There's really not much to separate it from the dozens of shows like that following a bunch of middle/high school girls around other than the gender of the cast.

You know how dumb and crazy someone has to be to pay Japanese prices for anime? Add "idols" to the mix and suddenly you have fans that are many times dumber and crazier.

In any case, the first volume will likely sell much more than the rest of the show (although the rest of the show is going to sell really well too). It has an event ticket and costs about 20 dollars less than the other volumes, despite having the same amount of content on the disc.
