Behold the Bull of Heaven!
0. Introduction
Welcome one and all, to this Choose Your Own Adventure thread, set in the mythic and magical world of Glorantha!

Glorantha

Glorantha is a setting developed primarily by one Greg Stafford, and is the setting primarily used in the RuneQuest and HeroQuest RPG systems, as well as the excellent video game King of Dragon Pass.

Glorantha is heavily inspired by our own world's early Bronze to early Iron Age periods of history, as well as mythology and epic poetry, such as Beowulf, the Kalevala and the Epic of Gilgamesh. Our real world knowledge and concepts of physics, biology and other sciences are meaningless in this world, which is a literal cube of earth mass, floating in an endless sea. The gods and heroes are all real, tangible entities, and the myths are the mortal people's way of remembering the events of what is called the God Time, or the God Plane - the existence before the birth of Time, which helped save the world after the apocalyptic period known as the Great Darkness. The setting is famed for the amazingly detailed (and seemingly impenetrable to newcomers) lore, detailing the various cultures and their histories, myths and way of life. In this game, you will all help lead the life of an individual from one of these cultures, as well as his companions.

The Orlanthi

"Orlanthi" is a term used to describe the various people across the world who primarily worship Orlanth, the storm god that killed the Sun and later helped bring him back from the Underworld to save and renew the world. It is a blanket term, applied to various, sometimes very differing, cultures. However, it is still a useful guideline. Orlanthi, as generalization, tend to be boisterous, violent and honorable. Their basic social structure is the clan, with various clans preferring to live in walled villages, herding their precious cattle, farming their land and routinely beating each other up in raids and dust ups.
The Orlanthi, like most people of Glorantha worship a pantheon of various gods and goddesses, offering gifts and sacrifices to most of them, but usually initiating into the deeper secrets of only one or two gods. Something to keep in mind, is that when the Orlanthi say "all", they usually mean "every 8 out of 10 people". With that in mind: All men are initiated into one of the many subcults of Orlanth the Father, King of the Gods and god of Storms. All women are initiated into the cult of Ernalda the Mother, Queen of the Universe and goddess of the Earth. Various individuals sometimes initiate into other cults.

Your will be leading an Orlanthi youth throughout this adventure.

Game Specifics
Decisions will be made based on a majority vote, with ties being decided by me. I will try and post at the very least once a week, hopefully more if the interest is there. And to all Glorantha veterans out there, don't forget - Your Glorantha Will Vary.

I. Character Generation

1. What are you?
Gender roles in Orlanthi society are divided, but equal, with a lot of mobility for people who are not happy with what they are doing. Some cults have gender restrictions, so keep that in mind.

A. Man
B. Woman

2. Who do you worship?
Pick one. You will be able to learn the mysteries of other cults later on, but for now you have only been initiated into the secrets of one of these cults.

A. Orlanth - Thunderer, Adventurer, King of the Gods.
Orlanth is the King of all the Gods, a title he earned by killing the Sun and then, when the Great Darkness came, going into the Underworld to save him and bring about the Dawn. A natural leader, Orlanth created the Storm Tribe to help various gods and people come together and protect each other during the violent and turbulent Storm Age, following the death of the Sun.

Orlanth is the god of men, and only men can initiate into his cult, though all can worship him. Orlanthi tend to be violent and emotional, usually acting first and thinking later. However they are also loyal to their friends and family, and strive to right the wrongs they have made. Orlanth's motto is "Violence is always an option.", and he also adheres to his father Umath's stance that "Nobody can make you do anything."

B. Ernalda - Earth Mother, Provider, Queen of the Universe.
Ernalda is Orlanth's wife and the goddess of fertility and women. She is the Earth, with all of it's bounty and power. She is the one who urged Orlanth to kill Yelm, the Sun and she has always tried to keep her husband in check, tempering his violent nature with pragmatism and kindness. Ernaldans are often seen as pragmatic, detached manipulators.

While that is certainly an aspect of them, they are also kind and caring, willing to do anything to protect their husbands, children and clan. They try to think things through before acting, unlike the emotional men. Ernalda often has to remind Orlanth that "There is always another way", stopping him from doing something that might hurt people in the long run.

C. Vinga - Adventuress, Warrior
Vinga is either Orlanth's daughter, Orlanth himself or his Female aspect, detached from the Male one. She is the Red Haired Woman, and is the only way a woman in Orlanthi society can initiate into the secrets of the male cult of Orlanth. While most women only initiate into the cult for a short period of time, when they need to avenge themselves for example, there are still some who initiate permanently.

Vingans tend to act a lot like men, being impulsive and brash, emotional and prone to short term thinking. While seen as kind of odd by Orlanthi, they are still accepted and celebrated just like any other person.

D. Barntar - Farmer, Herder, Wrestler. The Free Carl.
Barntar is Orlanth's son, and the god of the free farmers. He is the one who first discovered the secrets of the plow and wrestled the Storm Bull into submission and forced him to pull it and help plow his fields.

Barntar is the most widely spread subcult of Orlanth (and as such, restricted only to men), as most Orlanthi tend to be farmers or cattle herders. While he is still one of the Thunder Brothers (the name for the various Storm deities that are part of Orlanth's tribe), and he fights in the clan fyrd, he is no warrior.

As such, most Barntar initiates do not go out of their way to seek fortune and glory, but strive to work their land or take care of their animals and help the clan. However, like all Orlanthi, when adventure is called upon them, they pick up a weapon and fight with the best of them.

E. Issaries - Talker, Trader, Traveler.
Issaries is the Storm Tribe's diplomat and merchant. Unlike the Storm gods, he prefers to talk things over, instead of just fight people. He helped Orlanth on his Lightbringer's Quest, as he helped navigate the Underworld, and as such he is an important part of Orlanthi society.

Issaries initiates tend to be quite knowledgeable from all of their travels, and strive to be fair and honest traders, aknowledging that by helping people talk and trade with each other the world becomes a better place. The Issaries cult is also the birth of the language Tradetalk, which is the most wide-spread language in the world, used by most cultures to conduct trade and negotiations. Despite that Issarites tend to learn a lot of various other dialects and languages to help them in their duties.

Of all "non-mainstream" cults, this is perhaps the most beloved one by the people of Orlanthi society.

F. Lhankor Mhy - Knowing God, Scribe, Keeper of Truth.
The God of Knowledge and Writing is an old sage with a long, flowing beard, and one of Orlanth's companions on his Lightbringer's Quest. He is the repository of all knowledge in the world, and there are no secrets hidden from him.

Lhankorings, his initiates are usually the only ones in their clan to hold the sacred secrets of writing and reading. They act as sages, lawspeakers and historians, recording and remembering the traditions of their fellow clan members, and helping the Chief and his Ring to solve the various legal problems of clan life.

One should remember, though, that Lhankorings are no dotting old men and women, hiding away from danger and blood. They are still Orlanthi and, as such, they are just as willing to grab a spear or a sword and wade into combat or adventure, especially if rare and hidden knowledge is the prize.

Even so, Lhankor Mhy initiates are seen as odd, if respected people. They seem interested in all kinds of, seemingly pointless, knowledge, which rarely relates to either cows or grain. Members (male or female) must have a long and flowing beard. Most women simply wear artificial and fake beards.

G. Humakt - The Sword, Oath-Maker. God of Death and War
Back in the God Time, Eurmal the Trickster went into the Underworld and there found the weapon called Death. He used it on Grandfather Mortal, and from then on everyone - gods, monsters, spirits and men were able to die.

Humakt, one of Orlanth's brothers saw this and took away Death from the Trickster and hid it away, severing his link to his family and clan to stop himself from showing preference. He knew that everyone and everything must die sooner or later, and didn't want his feelings for his family to stop him.

After much trepidations, Humakt did rejoin Orlanth, but not as his kinsman, but as his Champion - part of the clan, yet outside of it. Humakti are grim, cold, emotionless and usually feared by both friend and foe. Most regular people tend to keep away, or even run away in fear from Humakti initiates, for their very presence can sometimes cause death.

Feared and ostracized, they still respected and supported by some clans and Chieftains, for they are the pinnacle of Orlanthi warriors and are capable of using the most powerful of magics of War and Death.

H. Odayla - Hunter, the Sky Bear.
Odayla is one of Orlanth's sons, but not from Ernalda, but from a spirit of Nature. He is wild and untamed and prefers the wilderness to the farmstead or clan hall of his kin. His most famous feat was when he hunted and killed the Sky Bear in mythic times.

Odaylans act as hunters and scouts for their clans, providing food for when the fertility rites and the cattle magic fails, also providing leather and bones for craftspeople in villages and cities.

They are often seen as crude and wild by more settled Orlanthi, and the Odaylans don't bother dispelling this view. They are quite anti-social, rarely gathering in to groups, even between themselves, unless they have to.

Odayla is associated with the runes of Air and Bear.

3. What is your strongest virtue?
The Orlanthi generally hold these six to be the most important virtues. While you should always strive to maintain all, pick the one that you feel is your strongest.

A. Honor
B. Provision
C. Defense
D. Obedience
E. Justice
F. Hospitality

4. What are you good at?
Pick three skills you are better at than the average person of your clan.

A. Farming
B. Redsmithing (bronze-working)
C. Hunting
D. Poetry
E. Healing
F. Fighting with a weapon
G. Fighting without a weapon
H. Other (Like what?)

5. What magic do you have?
Besides the powers of the gods, most people know a few spells, own some charms or were simply born with magical talants that help them out in their daily life. Pick three.

A. Spit Fire Charm - A small stone charm that allows you to spit a ball of fire if you put it to your lips.
B. Stop Sword Wound from Bleeding- A spell that allows you to close up wounds on yourself done by swords.
C. Bladesharp - A charm that allows your bladed weapons to become sharper.
D. Speak with Alynxes - You know how to speak with alynxes, the large cats that Orlanthi use instead of dogs.
E. Hide in Forest Charm - A charm that holds a forest spirit that allows you to hide in wooded areas.
F. Shatter Stone - A spell that allows you to turn stones to rubble.
G. Listening Wind Charm - A wind spirit that can listen to distant things and allow you to hear them.
H. See in Darkness - You were born with the ability to see in darkness like you would in the day.
I. Resist Magic Charm - An iron ring that helps you stop magic aimed at you.
J. Water Seeds - A bag of seeds that, when planted in the ground, would make a tiny water spring sprout from them.

Coming up later: More information on your background , picking your companions and choosing a name!

Character Sheet

Yrsa Paper-Cut
(her third rune is not revealed yet)

Yrsa Paper-Cut is the story's main protagonist. She was a weaponthane of the Karmaki clan from Sartar, until her clan was destroyed by the Lunar Army, and for which she despises the Red Moon. She is an initiate of Lhankor Mhy, but unlike most initiate she is happy to use violence to solve her problems, and she has explored various ruins and sites in search for knowledge.

Aside from fighting, farming, reading and writing, she also knows how to recite and create poetry, speak with alynxes and is good at diffusing tense situations

Amongst her possessions are her riding horse zebra and bronze scale armor, her bronze sword Steel Feather, various books and scrolls she saved from her temple and the rare and magical Alien Combination Machine. Aside from her magic as a Lhankoring she knows a bit of combat magic.

She is currently the without her weapon and gold, stuck at the plateau on which lies the ruins of Dwarf Knoll.

Lionfish Golden-Eyed

Lionfish is an Esrolian trader who joined the party on his routine travels to Pavis. Despite being quite knowledgeable about Prax and how to travel through it, he is a slimy and cowardly little man, who always hides behind his sunglasses and has an annoying and punchable grin. He is an initiate of Argan Argar the troll god of trade and communications. So far it seems he doesn't hate the Lunars and can be seen talking to them like with anyone else.

He appears to be able to see in darkness and is familiar with a lot of languages including Sartarite, Esrolian, Tradetalk, New Pelorian and who knows what else. He seems to be a competent trader and has so far always managed to find what he's looking for.

He has a riding horse on which he travels along with his trollkin slave, named Grag, whom he loves to beat up and abuse.

He is currently the Talking Companion to Rostala, a fact that he relishes. He is traveling with a caravan to Pavis.

Esrolare Harvasdottir

Esrolare Harvasdottir was/is a priestess of Ernalda the Earth Mother and along with her daughter Darasin she is traveling to Pavis and has joined Yrsa and her party for protection. She has a controlling presence and is used to people obeying her orders, although she also shows genuine compassion when it is needed. Uncharacteristically for an Ernaldan, she is quite passionate, although she still remains down to earth and practical in her thinking. She fled Sartar after her clan was raided by the Lunars and while she is not as open of her distaste for them as Rostala is, she still hates the Lunars and is making plans to strike back at them.

Her ox-driven wagon carries her and her daughter's possessions like her considerable wealth and a copper idol of Ernalda that she is quite protective of, and is bringing to the Pavis Earth Temple for safe keeping. She has a strong affinity for the Mastery Rune and has displayed her ability to make people heed her words when she proclaims something or issues a threat. She also claims she is a competent healer and can use her magic to stop wounds from bleeding.

She is currently helping Yrsa and Rostala in organizing a larger caravan in which to travel, so as to protect the precious statue.

Rostala

Rostala is a wanderer and adventuress from Sartar, a strong and competent fighter, who joined the party after she heard what the Lunar Army had done to Yrsa and Esrolare's clans. She is an initiate to Vinga Thunderous and has an open and passionate hatred for the Lunars which she displays constantly, with little regard for subtlety, almost always looking for trouble.

Aside from her natural prowess in combat, she also wields powerful battle magics and is exceptionally strong. Aside from her bronze sword and leather armor her only notable possessions are several flint-tipped javelins which she claims she can hurl as thunderbolts at her enemies. She also has several protective charms that help her stay unhurt in battle.

She is currently the leader of the party's Ring, as suggested by Yrsa, and while she is still uncertain in her ability to lead she is becoming more comfortable in her new role with the help of Yrsa and Esrolare. She is leading the caravan to Pavis.

Halari the Gentle

Halari is a worshiper of Heler, the Storm Ram, the Orlanthi god of rain. He (and sometimes she) is compasionate towards other people and usually tries to solve his problems through means other than violence.

While not a particularly good fighter, she is none the less a very powerful magician who can call down storms and rain if she so choses. He wears a loose robe that can fit both a man and a woman, and carries a short bronze sword in case she has to protect herself.

His goal in life seems to be to free the Zola-Fel river from the Lunars, so that the city of Pavis can be free. He had a vision sent by Heler that said that Pavis must be freed for the Lunar Empire to fall.

She is currently on a quest to retrieve a sacred White Bison by the Eiritha priestesses from the Paps oasis.

Other Notable Characters
* Ironspear, an Elmali warrior from some western clan that nobody seems to have heard of. He carries a magical spear with an iron head and is a very powerful warrior. Also he's kind of a wet blanket.
* Whispers-to-the-Grass, an ancient-looking High Llama shaman who has decreed his spirits ordered him to join you. Apparently, his llama can talk.
* Destor Ortossi, a trader of the powerful Garhound family of Pavis County. He has offered to speak on your behalf and make you weaponthanes if you swear loyalty to his chief.
* Derrik, a brash young man from Moonbroth, who is infatuated with Esrolare.
* Rostalos Pol-Joni, an Orlanthi nomad who is accompanying you on your travel to Pavis. He has befriended Rostala. You suspect it is because they share both a name and a passion for wandering and rude jokes.

Behold the Bull of Heaven!
II. Your Background

1. What secrets do you know?
As an initiate of the Knowing God, there are things you can do that other people can't. You can read and write in the Three Sacred Scripts, you can cast sorcerous spells and learn new ones, you can tell if someone is lying to you or not and you can try and remember obscure facts and knowledge.

You are not allowed to ever write something you know is a lie, and you must strive to protect the sanctity and truth of the written word.

Though you were expected to stay in the Temple Library and study like the rest of the initiates and apprentices, your wanderlust got the better of you and you became a Wild Sage, roaming the land in search for knowledge and secrets. You came back only when it was time to help on the fields and when you had to observe the holy days of Lhankor Mhy at the Library in the town near your village, where you often got into arguments with the priests,

These are secrets you have learned about your god or goddess during your initiation or in your travels. You should never reveal the knowledge of these to people who are not part of your cult, less your god's spirits of retribution come to you. You may pick only one secret. You will have the chance to learn more as the game goes on.

A. How Lhankor Mhy Found the Truth - You know the details and secrets of this myth and, theoretically, know how to re-enact it in the Hero Plane.
B. The Alien Combination Machine - You have had access to the ACM and are able to learn spells from foreign or ungodly manuals without becoming corrupted by their evil.
C. The Knowing Feat - You may attempt to learn a piece of information through the power of your god, even if it's something you have never read or have no way of actually knowing by yourself.

Your ancestors moved to Dragon Pass long after it had been settled. The Colymar were already an old tribe by that time, but your ancestors were fiercely independent and refused to join them, or any other tribe. Thus, the Karmaki clan was born. They fought and traded with their neighbors and refused to bow down to anyone's authority.

That all changed with the coming of Sartar the Founder. His promise of peace and unity overwhelmed their sense of independence and they joined him in founding the kingdom of Sartar, the same kingdom that your parents and you yourself were born in.

When you were a child, a woman with red hair and a shining star on her forehead had come to your village. She had talked with the chief and the Ring, and soon a lot of warriors, including two of your brothers had marched off to fight against the evil Lunar empire that had started to take over the kingdom.

Your brothers did come back, but the news they brought were grim. You grew up with a sense of foreboding around you, and it seemed there was a reason for it.

2. What was your role in your clan?
This will determine the social status you held in your clan, and what wealth you have with you on your trip.

A. Hunter - Cottar
B. Sheep herder or simple farmer - Cottar
C. Cattle herder or free farmer - Carl
D. Carpenter, Redsmith, Mason, some other crafter - Carl
E. Poet or Skald - Carl
F. Scribe - Thane
G. Weaponthane or Huscarl - Thane
H. Priest - Thane
I. Something else (Like what?)

Two weeks ago, a group of foreign soldiers marched towards your village. They wore bright red, and their banners carried the evil rune of the Red Moon. They demanded that your clan relinquish all of it's cattle and much of it's harvest as punishment for their part of the rebellion. Your clan could not stand this, and rose up in arms and charged the army.

The results were expected. The Lunars slaughtered everyone who dared raise their hand against them, killing seven out of every ten people in your clan. They desecrated your temples, smashed the shrines of your ancestors and looted everything they saw fit. At last, they left. The Karmaki clan was no more. Your people were either killed or scattered. You gathered what possessions you had.

3. Do you hate the Lunars?
Your clan opposed the Lunar invaders, but what is your personal view of them?

A. Yes!
B. No! (Why?)

After your clan was destroyed by the Lunars you decided to head East, towards the wastelands of Prax and the city of New Pavis, like many other Sartarites did before you and are doing now, as they flee the invading Lunar Army. This was not an easy decision to make, but none of the tribes around you wanted to help you out - your clan's independence had backfired, for nobody wanted to put their neck on the line for you.

4. Who came with you on your trip?
You met a lot of people as you traveled East. You couldn't possibly take everyone with you, but it is still safer to travel in a group. Who were your companions? Pick three.

A. Rostala, worshipper of Vinga Hedkoranth(Vinga Thunderer). She favors flint tipped javelins.
B. Esrolare Harvasdottir, an Ernalda priestess from the Blue Badgers Clan, and her 12 year old daughter Darasin.
C. Lionfish, worshiper of Argan Argar. A scheming, oily little man with a slick, surprisingly well groomed black hair and beard and a trollkin thrall he calls Grag.
D. Halari Fairface, a beautiful young man who seems to have an affinity for waters. He seems kind of odd, but you can't quite put your finger on why.
E. Olamarth Stoneface, a herder from your clan. His family were all killed and he joined you in hopes of finding vengeance. His name comes from the time he broke a stone with his head.
F. Ironspear, an Elmali warrior from a far way clan you have never heard of. He fights with a magical spear with an iron head.

You had only been to a city once in your life, but you had heard rumors that Pavis was a marvelous place. That Orlanth was still worshiped there, under the nose of the Lunars, and that there was food for all and mysteries that waited exploring.

5. Who are you meeting in Pavis?
Do you have any contacts in the city? Do you have someone to help you get used to your new place and give you a hand?

A. A member of your clan.
B. A member of your family.
C. A member of your cult.
D. A friend.
E. Someone else (Who?)
F. Nobody

This is your story. Your future lies uncertain before you. Will the future generations speak of you with good or ill? Will they even remember who you were?

6. And lastly - what is your name?
Orlanthi usually have first name and for a second name they either use their clan name, the name of their father or mother (adding -son or -dottir after it) or use a colorful and descriptive title.

Behold the Bull of Heaven!
III. Yrsa Travels East

As you fled your village, you managed to save some some scrolls from the Temple, as well as taking the Alien Combination Machine with you, to save it from the Lunar plunderers. You grabbed your horse and your sword, Steel Feather, and left off.
You have been on the road for two weeks now, ever since you left your destroyed home.

As you were leaving, you were met with Olamarth, a carl from your clan. Once he learned you were planning on hiding out in Pavis, he begged to come with you so he could plot his vengeance against the Lunars. You refused. As you were riding away, you could hear him shouting curses at you, calling you a traitor.

Eight days ago, you met a strange couple of adventurers. One appeared to be an Elmali and introduced himself as Ironspear, and the other was a strange looking man called Halari. He did not appear to be a youth, yet his face was beardless. They traveled with you for a while, but you split ways as you headed further east, and they mentioned they will head South to Esrolia before venturing into Prax. You each bode the other luck in your travels, and promised to meet each other in Pavis, if all of you survive.

Four days ago you met someone who claimed to be a merchant heading to New Pavis on his regular trip. He introduced himself as Lionfish Golden-Eyed, and said he would very much enjoy your company along the trip. He had a miserable looking trollkin with him, which he regularly kicked and hit with the butt of his spear. As you gathered later, the trollkin even had a name - Grag. As you were talking with him, a powerfully built woman with short red hair approached you. She gave the Greeting, and introduced herself simply as Rostala and did not give a clan or family name. She said she had heard you, and was interested in joining.

"Do you have any business in Pavis?" you asked.
"No." She simply answered, then looked back at the distant Red Moon. "But I need time before I can come back prepared."

It is now Clayday, Death Week of Earth Season, and it's getting kind of dark. You met a woman and her daughter, who were riding a wagon, drawn by a pair of oxen. They carried all kinds of things with them, and at the back had a clay statue of Ernalda the Mother. The woman introduced herself as Esrolare Harvasdottir of the Blue Badgers Clan. As you offered her hospitality at your campsite for the night, she explained a story eerily similar to yours. She and her daughter were heading towards Esrolia, but they found out from travelers that Lunar Patrols had made the trip there quite difficult, so they had decided to leave for Pavis instead. You offered them to travel with you and after some thought they agreed.

As everyone else was getting ready to sleep, you took your spot near the campfire as the first guard shift. Things were quiet, save for the birds from the nearby woods, until you heard a very loud rustle from behind the wagon. Jumping from your spot, you drew Steel Feather from it's scabbard.

1. Do you try to wake anyone else before you go investigate?
A. No, let them sleep.
B. Yes, Rostala
C. Yes, Lionfish
D. Yes, Esrolare

You quickly move towards Esrolara and gently nudge her. She tiredly opens her eyes, though when she sees your drawn blade she instantly awakes and gets up.

"What is it?" she asks, as she also hears the rustling in the bushes and starts to look around herself.

"I am not quite sure myself, but it might..."

You are cut off mid-sentence by an almost animal-like squeal. As you whip around you see Grag the trollkin screaming as an enormous gray wolf has it's teeth around his throat. As the trollkin starts shouting in broken Sartarite "No hurt! No hurt! No hurt!" the wolf growls and tightens it's bite. Everyone else wakes up, but before they can react, you find yourselves surrounded.

Half a dozen wolves have appeared from the shadows, watching you intently with a frighteningly human gleam in their eyes. Two men, naked save for a wolf skin hanging from their shoulders, covered in markings, painted runes and talismans also emerge from the darkness. They are each carrying bronze short swords, and look around at your curiously. Werewolves, Telmori.
The older man approaches closer.

"Which of you is leader here?" he asks

1. What do you respond?
A. Say you are the leader.
B. Say someone else is the leader. (who?)
C. Remain quiet.

"You are in Telmori territory. Your fire has scared away the game we have been tracking for days. You must make amends for this or be punished for it."

You instinctively know that the man is not lying to you. This situation could explode at any moment, as you've read the the Telmori are vicious when slighted and would not hesitate to slaughter all of you.
Rostala clutches the handle of her sword, but the moment she moves two of the wolves get closer to her and bare their teeth. She does not draw her blade, though she also doesn't let go of it and looks at you with a questioning look.

Esrolare looks at you and whispers "Remember, there is always another way. Let me talk with them." You make a quick look around your camp. Esrolare's daughter is huddling on the ground, a wolf standing near her, but it hasn't closed in yet. Grag has stopped shouting and is simply whimpering as the wolf still holds it's jaws around it's neck. Lionfish doesn't seem to care much what's happening to his thrall, though he holds his spear in hand and looks around the Telmori as well, with an discernible smirk on his face

2. How do you deal with the Telmori?
A. Seize the moment, attack them!
B. Try and negotiate with them.
C. Let Esrolare negotiate with them instead.
D. Something else. (Like what?)

(Also, is this set up working for you guys? Should the posts be longer, shorter, more frequent, or give more time between them? Would you prefer if I post more or less pictures along?)

Behold the Bull of Heaven!
As the Telmori asks for the leader, your mind starts whirling away, remembering previous laws, precedents and traditions. While you did organize everyone together, nobody has clearly designated you as leader. You were a weaponthane, yes. But your clan no longer exists, and with it - any authority you might have, plus Esrolare claims she is a priestess, which would make her your equal. She appears to be older than you, but not by so much as to be your elder. Lionfish is a trader, so he's below your position, but then again there was the precedent of Harvar the Honey-voiced that had occurred three generations ago, and as for Rostala...

You feel like you're starting to lose track of the situation. Reigning back your mind from wandering off too much, and decide to remain silent. That proves to be a rather poor idea, as Lionfish steps up next to you and, his chest pumped, he turns towards the Telmori male. "That would be me, yes! These ladies here are all my companions in my long travels!"

A sharp "WHAT!?" makes you realize that Rostala's face has become so flush with anger that you can barely make out where her hairline begins and where her forehead ends. She is clutching her sword handle so hard that her bones seem like they would burst out of her hand. Esrolare, meanwhile seems to have, miraculously, held her composure and her only reaction to this was giving disgusted look towards Lionfish and a smoldering glance at Rostala. She then turned to the short trader and with a slight bow asked. "Would you like me to negotiate this situation for you, sir?"

Lionfish's smile was still on his face, though it seemed to have lost some of it's energy from before. He nodded "Yes, yes that might be best." and stepped back.

Throughout most of this the two Telmori men's reaction were more or less a constant. The elder's face did not change from his scowl, and the youth seemed a bit confused as to what had just transpired. Esrolare stepped closer to the elder and gave him a deep bow. "I am Esrolare Harvasdottir of the Blue Badgers Clan, priestess of the great Earth Mother. What are your names, noble wolves?" The elder finally seemed content with the situation as he replied. "I am Harim Two-Brother, and I am leader of this hunting party. We demand that you make due for your reckless behavior."

"Of course. We apologize for the damage we have caused, and we hope you understand it was in no way intentional on our part to drive away your food. We will be glad to pay you the equivalent of five cows in treasure." As the Ernaldan was talking, she calmly walked over to her wagon and produced a number of silver arm rings and other jewels and presented them to the Telmori.

The elder thought for a while and then replied "This is not sufficient. With the followers of the Red Moon now all over the lands we can not be sure your money will be accepted by the wretched villagers. We demand food to compensate for our own." he looked towards the wagon and pointed at one of the oxen. "We shall take this animal as payment!"

Esrolare turned towards you and Lionfish with a questioning glance. The normal worth of the ox was irrelevant in this case, for his practical worth was immense. Without both oxen to pull the wagon your movement would be slowed considerably.

1. Do you give the Telmori what they asked for?
A. Yes, give them the ox.
B. No, offer to give them even more jewels.
C. No, offer to give them some of your own food instead.
D. Violence is always an option.
E. Something else?

Behold the Bull of Heaven!
"Let me make you an offer..." Everyone turn towards you, and listen with curiosity in their eyes. Lionfish's smile has become slimier than ever, and Esrolare crosses her arms in front of her chest and waits to hear you out.

"...How about instead of you ripping us to shreds, which I would like to point out will be neither easy, nor without losses from your side, we instead strike a bargain. Your hunting group will lead us to our destination, the city of Pavis. You will act as our scouts and envoys through the territory of your people, and as guards through our travels in Prax. As payment, we shall give you both oxen, along with a sizable amount of silver and gold, which you can then use in Pavis to purchase whatever it is you want and bring it back here."

The elder werewolf quiets down for a bit. It feels like eternity until he finally answers you.
"We can not do this. Prax is a foreign land to us, and we have no sympathy or good blood towards the savages that populate it. I will not send my brothers to get killed in the wastes, away from their families. We will take both of the oxen, and you can keep your money, and we will tell our tribe to not harm you until you've left our lands."

Esrolare chimes in at this point, her voice hard as steel. "Listen to me, and listen to me well ye cursed souls. In my wagon I carry the sacred statue of the Earth Mother. I have sacrificed more than you will ever know to save it from the vagaries of the Red Moon, and I will bring it to Pavis and safety. If you take my oxen, there will be nothing to pull the wagon, and the statue will be stranded."

Her face looks grim and scowling, and you feel a shiver going down your spine. "And I swear by the Bloody Earth, if you force me to abandon this idol I will make sure that the Earth itself turns against you. Your women will go barren and wither, animals will always sense you and your own bestial kin will abandon you!" You can feel the power of the oath in the back of your skull.

To your relief, you think the Telmori have also sensed the weight of the situation, and Harim Two-Brother seems less certain in his actions. Before anyone can do anything, you jump back into the conversation, hoping to stop this from escalating.

"Harim Two-Brother, I will make you a new offer than. We will leave you half of our food, as well as 20 cows worth of goods. In return your band will talk to your people and we will have safe passage until we reach the oasis of Moonbroth. We will keep both of our oxen, and with that would be able to leave your lands as fast as possible." You reach into your bag and put on your sheep-wool beard on. Harim and the young Telmori look quite confused by your action and give each other an asking glance.

"Harim Wolf-kin, I will remind you of the past. Both your people and mine have suffered under the Red Moon, and both your people, and mine, have been once allies. Sartar the Founder made peace between us, and helped the Wolf People and the Storm People live together. This very land we stand on was given to your kin by him, after all. As such, I ask you that you hear my offer of peace, and realize that we must once again work together if we should endure the hardships of our times." As you finish your speech, you immediately launch into a poem ((which I won't write, because I am very, very bad at poetry)) about the strong ties between Sartar and the Telmori, how he saved them from the curse of wandering the Earth without a home to call their own.

Once the poem ends, you turn back towards Harim. He has remained quiet all this time, and as he opens his mouth to speak, you can hear his voice shake slightly. Your poem has moved him considerably, it seems. "Strange woman, who looks like a man - I hear your offer. Come, my brothers, we will depart." As he says this, you hear rustling around you, and before you can even turn your eyes towards them, most of the wolves have stepped outside of the light of your campfire and back into the darkness. "One of my wolf-brothers shall follow you until you leave our lands and guard you against anyone who would dare attack you. Once you reach the Moonbroth, leave the food and we shall retrieve it. You may keep your silver and your animals, for nobody, even we, would dare offend the Great Mother."

And with that, you hear some faint noises and the Telmori vanish away back into the nearby woods. Your party look at each other, and back at you with approval. The first to speak is Esrolare. "Yrsa Paper-Cut, I thank you for what you have done for me and for Great Ernalda. Your deeds this night will not be forgotten and will not remain unrewarded. But for now, let us all go back to our rest, for the road ahead will be long and draining." Everyone just nods and go back to sleep. Rostala offers to stay watch until the morning. Though it takes you a while, you finally let yourself go and fall asleep.

You wake up early in the morning and quickly gather up your campsite. You and Lionfish gather up your gear and put it back on your horses, and Rostala (and Grag) help Esrolare and her daughter put their stuff back on the wagon. In the clear morning light, you notice for the first time that the idol of Ernalda is not wooden, but in fact made out of copper and it glistens in the morning sun.

You get on your horse and your party slowly start to make their way across the fields and hills. From time to time, you are almost certain you can see a shadow moving in the woods to your left.

After two days of uneventful travel, the hills you've been climbing up constantly seem to reach their peak, and you get a nice, panoramic view of the valley head of you.

((You are, in fact, somewhere in the far background of the picture, a long way to the right.))

The flat plains of Prax stretch out into the horizon. You can even clearly see the Block many kilometers away to the south. Closer by, you can see the river you will need to cross to get on the road to Pavis. Far less of a cheery sight are the tiny buildings near what you assume is the Moonbroth oasis. Traditionally, this territory was held by the Pol Joni, who are Orlanthi that have decided to live like the animal nomads of Prax. However these buildings do not seem to be of Sartarite build, at least not from what you can see from up here.

Before you begin your journey down you leave your food near a pile of stones. It pains you to leave your rations like this, for you know they will not last you in your travel through the Wastes. As you head down, you look behind your shoulder and you spot several men in wolf skins bringing in the food back into the forest, and several wolves and men following you with their eyes.

1. Where do you go from here?
A. We will head to Moonbroth and get on the Pavis Road from there.
B. We will avoid Moonbroth and get on the Pavis Road further north.
C. We will head south of Moonbroth and cross the river there, traveling through the open plains until we reach the Road.

Rostala estimates that your food might last you only for another week at best, if you ration it and give nothing to Grag (a fact that makes the trollkin become quite gloomy. That, in turn, is fixed by Lionfish swiftly kicking him in the head.) and hoping that none of it spoils in the sun.

2. What are your plans to get food for your trip?
A. We will hunt it yourselves.
B. We will steal some if we can.
C. We will buy some from Moonbroth.
D. We will buy some from a caravan we hopefully meet on the road.
E. Something else?

In general there's been quite a few caravans going through and fro, ever since the Lunars took over Prax, but let's not forget we're still in the middle of Earth season. People are still busy gathering the produce for the year, so there's not that much to sell yet." He shrugs and leans on his spear. "Thus, we have two options. We could find a caravan that's heading to Pavis right now, which is pretty likely, and probably is selling cloth or other such items, or we could wait in Moonbroth for an unspecified amount of time, and latch onto a food caravan. Those should probably start showing up in a week or so."

He gives you one of his trademarked slimy grins. "However, considering you seem to despise the Lunars this much, I doubt you'll be too happy to be around them for so long."

Also, what is The Block?

Geographically, the Block is that big..well, block that you can see on the image I showed to illustrate Prax. It is half a mile wide on each side and a mile tall.

Mythologically it's a bit more complicated. Before Time, during what is called the Gods War or the Great Darkness, Prax was the place of the final battle between the Storm Bull, Urox and his foe Wakboth the Devil. Although Storm Bull was born to fight against Chaos, Wakboth had become too strong and Urox could not keep fighting him for much longer. As Urox fell to the Earth, she gave him some of her strength, so he could keep fighting. As he leaped back on his feet, Urox called out to the world itself to aid him, and as a result an enormous piece of Truestone, the material of which the World Mountain was made out of, landed on top of the Devil, crushing him. That piece of Truestone is known known as the Block, and it is probably the most sacred place of Urox's followers.

Behold the Bull of Heaven!
IV. Out on the Praxian Plains.

After an uneventful night your party wakes up early in the morning and you all head off towards Moonbroth. After a short while, you finally reach a proper (dirt) road and, to Esrolare's delight, move out of the rough scrubland you have been traveling ever since you left the Telmori woodlands. Along the road several groups of people pass you by, but going towards Moonbroth and departing from it. Most seem like merchants, although a small contingent of Lunar soldiers also heads out back to Sartar. Thankfully for everyone, they don't seem to pay you (or anyone else, for that matter) any mind and seem concentrated on their marching.

As you near the bridge across the river, you see a gathering of people. As you get closer you quickly realize that Lunar soldiers are stopping people and talking to them before letting them pass the bridge. Most of the soldiers are on foot, though you see a few people riding sable antelopes staying nearby as well.

It is too late to try and run, as you get funneled towards the bridge. After the merchant wagons in front of you finish passing the bridge one of the antelope riders comes close to you and says something in a language you don't understand, but strongly suspect to be New Pelorian. After noticing you didn't seem to understand him, eh sighs with annoyance and switches to a rather choppy Tradetalk. "Where are you go, and what business?". As you are about to reply to the man, you realize your grasp of Tradetalk is even worse than his, and you turn towards Lionfish. He gives you one of the most horribly sleazy grins you have seen from him so far, and you must fight the urge to punch the man in the face right there and then.

"Greetings to you, dear Soldier" Lionfish says, as he rides closer to the Lunar. "I am a merchant, and these two ladies are my escort in my travels. The good lady in the Wagon is a friend of mine who is traveling with me. We are hoping to rest at Moonbroth before going to Pavis."

You feel like strangling the little poo poo for giving away your intended location, but the Lunar's reaction seems to be to just raise his eyebrow at you, scowl at Rostala (which she returns right back at him) and wave you to move along.

"Well, I'd say this is going rather well, wouldn't you, Yrsa?" says Lionfish as you cross the bridge and head towards the town. You just reply to him without even giving him a look "There will be talk about your actions, Golden-Eyes, but not here and not now."

The Oasis of Moonbroth, and most of the town around it are located on the inside of a depression in the earth some 2 kilometers across, as far as you can tell. As you look to your right, you see something you did not expect to ever meet in Prax - a fortress in what is clearly Sartarite style of building. You guess this would be the Pol Joni stronghold from which they oversaw the oasis. As you squint your eyes in the glaring daylight, you notice flags with the symbol of the Moon weaving over it's towers and walls.

As you continue down the road you slowly start descending the slopes into the oasis proper, you can see the town itself more clearly. Around you there are fields of various grains, maize and fields of melons, as well as quite heavy clumps of date palms, pomegranate, olive and apricot trees, all heaving with fruit and various people working on the fields and the orchards. You can see a lot of construction going on towards the north-easter end of the town, with buildings out of red bricks and covered in scaffolding litter the view. A large temple is also being constructed towards the center of the depression where you see the pools of hot water and geysers that Moonbroth is famed for.

That, however, is not where you seem to be headed, as the road veers to the north and towards a large gathering of shacks, tents and other buildings surrounding what you would guess is the market, judging by the smells of people, animals and spices, and the noise that emanates from it.

Lionfish turns towards you once again. "My ladies, as loathe as I am to abandon you, I am afraid I do have business to attend to at the market, and I must go and pay my respects at the market shrine. Let us meet later today at the caravansarai over there, beyond the market" he finishes, pointing out a large square building you sort of make out in the distance. "Before I go, would you have me pick up any supplies you might require, beyond the rations of food we would need to replace, obviously?"

1. Do you have any requests that Lionfish should look to buy/trade. (Pick two)
A. Extra food, just to be safe.
B. Weapons and armor.
(Yours and Rostala's are in pretty good condition, but you never know)
C. Charms or amulets to help for a faster and safer travel.
D. Animals or livestock that you might want to take with you.
E. Something else.
(Like what?)

He nods and rides off into the beehive of the market square, dragging Grag along with him. You, Esrolare and Rostala head further north, and you soon arive at the caravansarai. It's a square building (also in what you have now dubbed a Pol Joni architectural style) that has a large, open inner yard that has all kinds of wagons, tents and other such things littered all over it. People walk around you, talking to each other or going about their business.

As you arrive, a young man that appears to be neither Sartarite nor Lunar approaches you and greets you in New Pelorian. As you shake your head, he quickly grins and nods and switches to Tradetalk. "Welcome, friends! How may we serve you? There is free space for you to stop your wagon, and we shall provide food and water for your animals for you!"

2. What sort of accommodations do you order?
A. A room for each of you, Rostala and Esrolare plus her daughter, as well as one for Lionfish.
B. A common sleeping quarters for you, Rostala and Esrolare, and another one for Lionfish
C. A room where all of you can sleep together.
D. None, you will sleep in the yard.
(you can see quite a lot of people having set up tents around the square)
E. Food and drink (He points you towards several taverns you can find along the inner sides of the building)
F. Information (Mind you, your Tradetalk is quite bad)
G. Something else?

As you get settled in, you find that you suddenly have quite a lot of free time on your hands. Lionfish probably won't be back until way after dark (It is now noon), and most people around the caravansarai seem to be traders and busy talking amongst themselves. You sigh a sight of relief that there don't seem to be too many soldiers about the place, though several small groups do patrol around the yard, making sure nobody's trying to steal anything or cause trouble.

3. What will you do for the rest of the day? (You really have time for only two)
A. Read some of the documents and scrolls you've taken with you from your clan temple.
B. Just rest and talk with Esrolare and Rostala.
C. Go and explore the town.
E. Something else?

You give Esrolare and Rostala a questioning glance. They both just shake their heads. "Nothing for now, no. We will arrange for your stay at the caravansarai." Lionfish gives you a bow and a smile "Then I shall be off, for I have sacred duties to fulfill!"

Rostala shakes her head and turns towards you "I still don't realize why you let this slimy little toad of a man talk to you like that, Paper-Cut. If it was up to me, I would have smashed his beady little head already."

"Yes, and if it were up to you all of us might have ended up wolf food by now" says Esrolare in a business-like tone, which seems to shut Rostala up for the moment and make Darasin giggle. (And which, in turn, makes Rostala just hang her head and mutter something under her breath)

In very shaky Tradetalk you explain to the young man that you would want a private room for the four of you, as well as reserve a room for another person, who will join you later. The young man seems to understand what you mean, since he smiles and bows at you, then directs you towards the left side of the gate you entered through, explaining there is an inn there that has free rooms and would be suitable for your needs. You thank him and give him a silver guilder, asking him to direct Lionfish (whom you describe as best as you can) towards your inn when he arrives.

The Sleeping Alynx seems to take up a large portion of the gate-side space in the caravansarai, reaching all the way from the gate to the bend in the wall and taking up both floors of the building. You leave Rostala to guard your horse and the cart and head into the cool shade of the inn. It is well lit by light coming from holes in the ceiling as well as candles on the walls. The walls themselves are painted in colorful frescoes depicting alynxes and the floor is covered in woven reed mats.

As you enter, an elderly woman of obvious Sartarite origin welcomes you, and after a bit of language testing she smiles as you start talking to each other in Sartarite (for a moment you panic at people noticing you and reporting you to the Lunars, but it seems none of the people gathered in the eating hall seem to care for you). "Welcome, my dear friends! Welcome to my humble inn, the Sleeping Alynx. I offer all of you my hospitality."

You arrange your sleeping quarters, and Esrolare pats you on the shoulder, speaking in a quiet voice. "Paper-Cut, we must find a safe place for the idol of the Goddess, it will not be safe out in the yard." As the innkeeper (who identified herself as Aslora Silverhaired) overhears you, she gives a deep bow to Esrolare. "Mistress, do not worry yourself! No true Orlanthi woman would let anyone harm an image of the Allmother! I will store it in my personal safe, and you can be assured it will not be touched by anyone." Esrolare seems doubtful for a few moments, but you say that the innkeeper is being honest, plus she already offered you Hospitality and you accepted.

She smiles and calls for a burly young man, explains to him what the situation is and then accompanies him and Esrolare outside. In a few moments you see the youth and Rostala bending over under the weight of the copper idol as they bring it into the inn. A few people stop talking and stare in awe at the sight. Esrolare seems pleased with the attention and gives instructions to the pair with an air of authority you have not really seen in her since the encounter with the Telmori.

The statue disappears behind one of the doors and Esrolare and Rostala soon re-appear and you three, plus Darasin, head upstairs into your room. There are niches in the walls with your sleeping mats, as well as a small table and chest, where you put your cargo from your horse and cart. There is also a weapon rack where you and Rostala leave your armor, though you both still keep your swords. At this point Darasin mentions she is hungry and she, her mother and Rostala head off to eat. You decline to join them, and say you will meet them downstairs afterwards.

Once you are finally alone, you take your travel bag and pull out some of the scrolls and books you managed to save as you fled your Library. There is the map of Prax that you found, on which you dutifully note that Moonbroth is now under Lunar control, and you check through most of the other things, you realize that in one of the books (Notes On My Travels Through Dragon Pass and The Holy Country: Observations Into The Life Of Our People originally penned by Rostandos of Jonstown) you find several scrolls written in a language you do not recognize at first, but thinking it through you deduce it is Auld Wyrmish - The dead language of the Empire of Wyrms Friends that once ruled Dragon Pass until they were all betrayed by their draconic allies. While you certainly don't know how to read this language, the way the text is written ,as well as some of the symbols used, suggest to you that this might be some kind of EWF magic, somehow survived through to the modern age.

The implications of this discovery shake you up quite a bit. You had always seen the priest and his apprentices in the Temple Library as stiff and conservative, damning anything from the bygone eras as "dangerous" and "corrupting". And yet here they were with possible Draconic magic hiding in their books. Did they know it was there? Did any of them secretly know how to write and read this dead language?

As you ponder these concepts, your heart sinks - you may never know, and you are not even sure if any of your fellow cultists survived the Lunar raid. You are sure that Barim and his sister did not live, for you saw them struck down by soldiers. Deep in your thoughts of the raid, you don't even realize you have reached into your bag and taken out your Alien Combination Machine.

As you stare down into the interconnecting metal plates and disks, you sigh - It, after all, is in all likelihood the reason the Library and the priest kept tolerating your wanderlust and your constant expeditions. At the time he was amazed and joyous that you had discovered such a rare and sacred item, for your small village temple had no hopes of ever mustering the magic and people required to attain one from the Other World.

1. What will you do with these Auld Wyrmish notes?
A. Destroy them, they are dangerous!
B. Keep them, but leave them alone.
C. Use the Alien Combination Machine in an attempt to figure out what the writing is.
D. Forget about them, and continue looking through your other documents.

Behold the Bull of Heaven!

Now listen here - I'm not having any of this trickster nonsense in my thread, got it? Good! Back to the game!

You take in a deep breath and take out your leather sheet from your bag. You chant a prayer to Lhankor Mhy to help your mind be filled with understanding and put the sheet over your head. Slowly, as you lose track of time your mind clears, your thoughts concentrate and you can feel your mind expanding and opening up. Throwing the sheet away on your bedding, you take the Alien Combination Machine in your hands and spread out the draconic srolls in front of you. Working the various disks and mechanisms of the Machine, you start to slowly translate the text.

The text seems to be a narrative about the birth of Stone, though you quickly realize it is a metaphorical explanation of how to awaken the spirits that inhibit dormant stone. The author cautions strongly against using this without being fully aware of what awakening the Stone would cause...

The author. Your eyes widen and your breath stops in your throat (and your beard almost falls off from your face, but you refasten it with a shaky hand) The name at the end of the narrative is that of Lord Pavis himself. You conclude that this must be related in some way to his most famous feat - the awakening and commanding of the Faceless Statue.

1. Do you attempt to learn the Awaken Dormant Stone Spirits spell from these notes?
A. Yes!
B. No!

(Be warned that such knowledge can not be easily unlearned, and sharing it with anyone who is not part of your cult might be a threat to your well being.)

Lore question: Has Lhankor Mhy ever turned down knowledge? Was there things he did not try to know?

Lhankor Mhy has not turned down knowledge for he Knows Everything already. He doesn't really learn, he just Knows. However Yrsa is not Lhankor Mhy, she is just his initiate. And Lhankorings are pretty torn about this whole issue. Some are Completionists who try to gather all knowledge, even one deemed dangerous by others, and some are Ivalists who destroy anything even vaguely related to sorcery. Most temples are somewhere in the middle of the two extremes - Yrsa had always thought hers were on the more conservative side, until now.

You start memorizing the text, repeating it to yourself in your mind (but being careful not to recite it out loud, lest you activate the spell). After several readings of it you are fairly confidant that you can recite it on your own, and you put away your Alien Combination Machine and the scrolls (which you put back in the book you found them in). All of this is in good timing too, since your door opens and you see young Darasin stand there, a worried expression on her face. "Lady Yrsa, please come! Mother and Rostala are arguing in the downstairs room, and the lady you talked to earlier asked me to come get you!" You tell her to stay in the room and make sure nobody comes in or out, and head downstairs.

What you see in the dining area is quite something: Esrolare and Rostala are standing near their table, arguing with each other in loud voices (and getting close to outright yelling), the Innkeeper standing to the side and looking at the whole scene with disapproval and, oddly enough, none of the other patrons seem to even look at the arguing women. The reason for that, you suspect, is the man sitting on the floor and nursing a bruised eye. Both Esrolare and Rostala are gripping drinking cups, and you suspect that they are quite drunk.

"How dare you talk like that to me! You, which are no better than a dickless man!" yells Esrolare, and Rostala clenches her fists and seems to concentrate entirely on not lashing back at Esrolare. "As if you can judge me. Look at yourself, making a scene!" you can hear Rostala growl through clenched teeth.

This whole thing seems to be escalating quickly, and when Aslora Silverhaired sees you, she quickly comes to you and talks in a quiet tone. "Yrsa Paper-Cut, I beg you to reign in your companions. They have hurt one of my other patrons and this is getting close to breaching the rules of hospitality I gave you. Not to mention that if this goes on, the Lunar soldiers who patrol the caravansarai will come in to investigate!"

1. Esrolare and Rostala are fighting about something - What now?
A. Let them have it out, might as well get it out of their systems now than later.
B. Let them argue for a bit, but stop them if it seems this might escalate.
C. Go in and try to break them up.
D. Something Else?

You shake your head and move in towards your companions. "Stop it, both of you! You are abusing the hospitality offered to you." you turn to Rostala "Would Orlanth have hit another person's guest when they were under their protection?" You then turn to Esrolare "Did Ernalda lose her composure and yell at someone like a common cottar? No, no they didn't. You are being disrespectful both to the gods and to yourselves!"

You lower your voice as you speak. "And need I remind you, none of us are friends to the Red Moon - if you continue this, the soldiers outside will surely come in and investigate the commotion. You are drawing attention to ourselves!" Rostala and Esrolare seem to calm down a bit as you speak to them. They look at each other, and then to the other patrons. Aslora comes to you and thanks you, and Esrolare and Rostala give her a bow and apologize for their behavior.

As you order some beer (and make sure neither of the two women drink anything stronger than that) and sit down, Rostala speaks, and you can still hear hostility in her voice. "I am fully aware we are drawing attention to ourselves, Paper-Cut, for this is why this whole argument started." She throws a smoldering glare at Esrolare "She was asking around some of the men in here if they would like to join us as guards on our way to Pavis! Not only did she tell everyone where we are going and what we're doing, but she is insinuating you and I are not skilled or strong enough to protect our party."

You turn to Esrolare and she raises he eyebrows. "What the Red Woman says is true - I was asking around for caravan guards, but not because I doubt yours or hers fighting ability, but for I know there is safety in numbers. A larger party would be able to deal with more problems than just we three and Lionfish. As such, I feel like her comment about my promiscuity was unwarranted and crude." Rostala bristles up "It might have been said in the heat of the moment, but just as crude was your comment about me!"

1. The whole thing is starting to spiral out of hand, again.
A. "Rostala, Esrolare is right. We need more people if we get attacked by nomads."
B. "Esrolare, Rostala and I are strong enough to be able to protect our party. We don't need any more people with us."
C. Ask both of them to apologize to each other, but take no side.

You take a deep breath. "Listen to me, Rostala. Nobody, neither I nor Esrolare, is trying to offend your combat prowess, but let's think here - if we get attacked by nomads there is no way just the two of us, and Lionfish, would be able to stop them." You look at Esolare "And we have a holy woman, an idol and a child traveling with us, we can not risk being overwhelmed."

Rostala takes a few drinks from her beer and then turns to both of you. "I... I guess you're right, Paper-Cut. And I apologize to you, Harvasdottir - I acted without honor and without thought."

Esrolare's face softens as she puts her hand on Rostala's shoulder. "I accept your apology, Red Woman. I too become carried away in my passions, especially when I have partaken in alcohol. I should not have questioned you, for you are both a great man, and a great woman."

You smile, as the situation seems to have been resolved. "Indeed, despite being a follower of the Knowning One, our companion has proven herself a diplomat of some skill. Though this brings us back to a question that had arisen during our chance meeting with the Wolf-People. I say to you, Yrsa Paper-Cut - Would you lead our group from now onward, until we reach our goal?"

She raises her hand before you can speak. "I am aware that tradition in our lands dictate that men should be the ones who lead and that you are not a man in form, save for your sheep beard. Yet you have the needed qualities, and I would say you have the soul of a man, if nothing else." She looks at you, expecting.

1. What do you say?
A. "No. I am a woman both in body and in soul."
B. "I agree. Though I may be a woman by form, I am a man by soul."
C. "No, I care nothing for Earth or Air. My devotion is to Knowledge, not any gender."
D. Some other response?

2. Also, do you agree to be the leader?
A. Agree.
B. Refuse, say you should work as a ring and have no one be leader.
C. Refuse, suggest someone else should lead instead (who?)

You cough "Now, as I was saying, I am not suggesting we should travel with an entire caravan either - we will be drawing too much attention to ourselves, and it will be quite expensive. However, I feel like we should recruit a few more people into our group, so we could have a decent sized number of fighters. Also, I know a way in which we could increase our magic and make our chances of crossing the wastelands better. You see, during the Green Age Lhankor Mhy was observing the Awe Games and..."

Esrolare and Rostala look at you with questioning glances in their eyes as you start explaining your plan of assembling your party in a mythically appropriate manner in relation to a secret Lhankoring Myth you can not reveal in full. Halfway through your explanation of your reasoning Esrolare raises her hand to stop you. "Please, Yrsa, I am sure I speak for both of us when I say we do not really understand much of what you are saying. Am I right, Rostala?" Rostala simply nods. "You forget, neither of us are close to the Knowing God as you are, and his mysteries are distant to us. Please explain this in a manner in which we could understand."

You shrug. "We need at least another good fighter in our group and we must find some people who are close with animals to get along with us. I was thinking either some friendly...or at least, less hostile, animal nomads. I know it sounds risky, but not even they would dare hurt the Earth Mother, and we will make them swear to her."

The priestess smiles and nods in approval. "A wise plan indeed. How do you propose we go about recruiting these people?"

3. Where do you go look for people to join your party?
A. Ask around in the Sleeping Alynx Inn.
B. Go out at the caravansarai and look for people there.
C. Go to the city and look to find someone there.
D. Ask someone from your party to look around (who?)
E. Something else entirely?

4. What kind of people are you looking to recruit?
This last one is an open question, since I can't list everything - a general idea of what kind of people you are looking for - animal nomads (what tribe?), adventurers, criminals, mercenaries, shamans, priests and so on.

Is answering C to the first question likely to offend either of the people we're talking to, and if so, is there possibly a more diplomatic way to put that?

While you have no way of knowing that, you would suspect they probably won't really be offended. Rostala and Esrolare will find Yrsa to be quite strange for her vies of herself, but then again, they (and most Orlanthi, really) see her as strange anyway - She can write, she can read and she walks around with sheep wool hanging from her face. Saying you are neither a man nor a woman is just another thing on top of everything else.

Darasin is not initiated, there is no need to ask about it either - she has no initiation tattoos on her, plus she's only 12. Most children get initiated somewhere between 13 and 17 years of age, depending on circumstances. Until she passes her initiation there is no way of knowing what the Gods have decided for her.

How close is Moonbroth to Pavis? Would seven(eight, with Darasin) people be a large enough group to attract notice, seeing as we're not a caravan, but a single wagon(Does Lionfish have a wagon)?

If we talk to the innkeeper, we should trade news. She might want to know about the recent Lunar attacks, and as an innkeeper, she might have heard things about the current state of affairs in Prax. It's clear our own scrolls and maps are lacking current political details, etc. Incidentally, could we tell if the innkeeper is Ernaldan?

Your maps don't have any proper indication of the length of the road from here to Pavis, but asking around people they tell you it takes about two weeks of travel with a wagon. Lionfish has so far only rode on a horse, and you have no idea how he plans on transporting his trade goods - he hasn't mentioned any of it.

As for drawing attention to yourselves - you can imagine there's a fairly consistent traffic on the Moonbroth-Pavis road, but who knows when and why nomads might decide to take their chances.

The innkeeper is an Ernaldan, because she is a woman that has passed her initiation. However, judging from the several Communication runes () you can see on her arms and face, you guess she is at least initiated into the cult of Issaries, if not a devotee of him.

Esrolare nods in agreement with your statement. "Ah yes, I meant no offense with my question. Your devotion to Lhankor Mhy is admirable."

You ask the innkeeper to go to your room and tell Darasin that she can come down and everything is resolved, and as you start explaining that you would prefer to be an advisor in a ring around some other leader, Lionfish walks into the inn.

"Ah, ladies! A fine establishment you have found for us, and I see the festivities have already begone without me!" As Rostala grits her teeth and gives him a smoldering look, Lionfish visibly flinches back. "Ah, am...I interrupting something?"

"No, no. In fact, I was hoping you would arrive soon. Sit down." As Lionfish sits on the empty spot on your table he looks a bit concerned at you and the other women seated. For the first time in quite a while he doesn't have that annoying grin on his face. "Listen to me well, Golden-Eyed - You have been helpful in your knowledge, and I, most of all, appreciate that. However, your insistence on acting without regard to our group is becoming too troublesome. As such, we are making some changes to our group dynamic."

You explain to Lionfish your idea of hiring more people and that you would like to form an unofficial Ring for your party, and you say you would wish Rostala to act as it's leader, for she is the one closest to Orlanth from all of you. She seems unsure in how to react, and tries to explain to you that she is a wanderer and not a chieftain, but you quickly cut her off and recite one of the several poems of Orlanth's youth before he became the cheif of the Storm Tribe. There is precedent, and she should accept it.

Lionfish listens to you with obvious interest, and when you ask if he would be willing to be the Talking Companion in your group, he gives you a smile (an oddly sincere one, you notice) and gives a deep bow to Rostala. "My Lady, I pledge on my honor, and I swear by my God that I shall follow you and serve to the best of my abilities." You smile yourself, for you know that Lionfish is being honest in his proposal. Darasin comes down from the second floor, and you explain to her your plan as well, and she seems happy that people have stopped fighting and arguing.

"Now that this is done, we must talk about finding the right people for our group." You suggest to Rostala that the two of you would go around the caravansarai and talk to some of the travelers, and see if you can find people that are both honest in willing to help for you, as well as being up to her standards in fighting prowess. Lionfish informs you that after arranging his own deals in acquiring his trade goods, he has also made sure we will get extra food for our trip, as well as finding a merchant that was willing to give you good riding zebras for your horses, if you so desire. However his livestock will arrive in two days, so you will have some time to interview people.

*Montage Time*

The two days pass surprisingly fast. You ask the innkeeper if she could direct you to people who might be interested in the work you are offering, and she lists several individuals or places where you might find such people.

You and Rostala then spend the time talking to them, either in the various inns and taverns at the caravansarai, being careful to avoid the Lunar guards who patrol the place and Lunar merchants who arrive and leave. Lionfish seems to leave a lot more often than you, plying his trade and religious duties in the nearby market. You see him talking to various merchants at the caravansarai too, though distressingly he seems quite friendly with several people of obviously Lunar belonging.

1. What do you do about Lionfish's dealings with Lunars.
A. Interrogate him about it, see if he's not trying to sell you out.
B. Let him be, he's doing his work.
C. Let him be, but make sure to follow him more closely when you can.

At the end of all this walking around you have managed to acquire more than just sore feet, but also a decent list of people who might potentially be useful for guards. At lunch on the second day you sit down with Rostala, Esrolare and Lionfish and start discussing which of these people you should hire.

2. Who do you take along with you as your guards?
Pick as many as you wish, though keep in mind that more people would mean you have to pay more. You still have enough money, but your funds are not limitless.

A. Laran, a Sable Tribe rider who doesn't seem to be personally associated with the Lunars, and who's decently proficient with fighting from sable-back.
B. Rostalos Pol-Joni, a member of the Orlanthi nomads, who like you, is trying to keep a low profile in Moonbroth, and is going to Pavis, so he's willing to work as a guard for a fellow Storm-worshiper.
C. Barazan Blackeyes, a local fighter who seems to often act as caravan guard. He refuses to state his affiliations, but his payment is acceptably low, and he is quite a competent fighter. He doesn't have a ride, and as such you will have to provide one for him.
D. Whispers-to-the-Grass, an elderly High Llama tribe shaman who says that some of his spirits have told him to follow you in your travels. He offers to come with you for no payment.
E. Banashi and Belavani, two Yelmalion brothers, who work as professional caravan escorts. You must hire both of them at the same time, and their payment is quite hight, but they seem to be very competent and disciplined fighters. They have no mounts, and say they would not need ones for the trip to Pavis.
F. Derrik, a local Orlanthi youth who tried to hit on Esrolare. After Rostala beat the tar out of him, she said he's actually quite strong, and he offered to work for you for a pitiful payment. He says he will find his own ride, if you accept him.
G. Destor Ortossi, a merchant of Issaries from the Garhound clan of Pavis county (Lionfish explains that the Garhound are currently the dominant Orlanthi clan in the area), who is returning to Pavis along with his two bodyguards, and offers to join your group. He requires no payment, since he is just traveling alongside you.

B. Let him be, he's doing his work. - 4
C. Let him be, but make sure to follow him more closely when you can.
D. So hey, Lionfish. Any interesting news from the Lunars? - 5

"Oh nothing in particular" he says, as you all gather for your morning meal. "Some are old trade partners that recently converted to the Lunar way. Some of them mentioned that there's news that the Big Rubble near Pavis has been closed off when they left. Something about outbreak of troll attacks." He takes another swing from his beer and waves his hand. "But don't worry, they would surely clear that up by the time we arrive. And hey, trolls are not all that scary and frightening, are they Grag?" as he says this he kicks Grag in the legs, making the trollkin fall to the ground in an ungainly pile of limbs and whimperings.

2. Who do you take along with you as your guards?
A. Laran - 6
B. Rostalos Pol-Joni - 8
C. Barazan Blackeyes
D. Whispers-to-the-Grass - 7
E. Banashi and Belavani - 3
F. Derrik - 7
G. Destor Ortossi - 7

Barazan got no votes, so he's not coming, and the two Yelmalions got only 3 votes, so they're not coming either. Of the others, everyone got 7 or more votes except Laran the Sable. Since you picked a Pol-Joni and a High Llama rider, Laran is starting to doubt if he wants to work with you at all.

He says he will only join you if either Rostalos or Whispers leaves, since he doesn't want to deal with enemy tribes.
A. Refuse him, he's not coming with you.
B. Accept, don't take Rostalos with you.
C. Acept, don't take Whispers-to-the-Grass with you.
