I would have loved to have kickstarted it but I'm a poor digging out of a large medical debt. Its an accomplishment for a start up to get something to the market so congrats.

that's what a terminal, for example, terminal.app, is for - to reach out into linux boxes from your desktop computer.

My Creative Suite that I use EVery Day @ my NON Profit Args ORg:

LIbre Office Writer: mostly for DEKSTOP PUBLISHING
Libre Office Calc: SPREADSHEET STUFF!!
GIMP: Fixing pics for the website, program, etc
Inkscape: Making cool graphics for the website, FB, program, hanging banners, etc
KDENLIVE: non-linear video editor. use it for making cool trailers, promo vids, ads, etc
Pithos: pandora desktop client. epic
Firefox: pretty good browser
Chrome: i use this on Windows so I also have it open at work for my personal stuff, also it keeps my NETFLIX info up. also my REAL PHONE rings on my GMAIL so its good to have this so i can cool good quality voice calls. sounds better than using my celly.
Files: Need this to browse files
AUDACITY: the phone greeting and voiceover for videos and crap
VIRTUALBOX: This is pretty key too. my softphone and also VONGAE BUSINESS DEKSTOP CLIENT only work on WINDOWS so I have a windows XP VM to power my phone master control and also let me make and recieve calls on my line without buying a handset like its the 1970s or something
Google Docs/Drive/Etc: not UBUNT GNOME related but we use G-APPS at work that google gives us free for being a 501c3 so we that thruout the org to chat, collab on things, etc etc. also calendar but ill tbh i dont like nor understand how GCal is supposed to work in a pseudo "enterprise" environment like i cant push meetings to ppl and also i can have a calendar populate across the domain but i cant have it show up on every new/old account by default. the user hasto add it? wtf?
Overall my friends its very need suiting and im glad to have a powerful, secure, and modern desktop OS/software library that fits my orgs budget and is a PLEASURE TO USE

if i read (skimmed) that correctly, you said that somebody has code on their machine that they won't release, and towards the end of the article he basically admits he has code he won't release, because it's ugly and bad

To be honest, in the open source environment it is weird to use "tainted" for anything but license-related issues, which seemed to cause a bunch of confusion.
