Mcqueen posted:I was going to ask what you folks would recommend for streaming video over ethernet and netflix but the answer seems to be Fire TV. Just cancelled my Roku 3 order but now that I read more I may miss the headphone jack and lack of HBOgo. Is there any word on FireTV getting the service soon? There is no official word on HBOGo for Fire TV. Amazon says they are working on it but I believe HBO hasn't said a word yet. Is there an HBOGo Plex channel that could be a work around.

eddiewalker posted:Maybe for a FireTV? I haven't heard much about it since the week it launched. FireTV runs plex well, I'm not sure if my setup transcodes or not however.

Roundboy posted:i just picked one up myself. Did you side load or use the (outdated?) amazon app store version ? Amazon app store version. It was on sale for $1 and I had a couple of dollars in amazon coins, it seemed to make sense to pick it up for free.

Maneki Neko posted:I'm pondering consolidating things in my living room a bit and going from a dedicated HTPC running Plex HT to a Kindle Fire TV running plex. Anyone else made that jump? How sad am I going to be? If Plex recognizes everything then you should be fine. From the couple hours I spent with Plex Fire TV it seemed about as good as Plex HT. Where will the media be served from if you're removing the HTPC?

Maneki Neko posted:From a machine in my office over Ethernet. I moved the Plex server a while ago. Then you'll probably be fine. You can return the Fire TV to either best buy or Amazon if it doesn't work. The only thing you'll be out is the $5 to buy Plex from the Amazon store.

Canuckistan posted:Is the plex pass worthwhile? Probably not, the only great thing it offers is cloud playback (files from Google Drive, Dropbox...) or offline syncing. If you are willing to leave a server running constantly it will stream outside of the house very well and even do all of the network tunneling.

GutBomb posted:You can make a library for that folder called "home movies" that just puts raw files in your library and doesn't scrape or categorize them. It's good for porn and sports which don't have metadata databases. Oh awesome, I have such bad luck scrapping I usually just use read organize by dates and filenames, this will let me use Plex instead of XBMC.
