quote:I've only started thinking through the idea, and implementing it would take more technical expertise than I have alone. For instance, I'm not sure if Strangecoin can be implemented as an extension of the bitcoin protocol, or if some fundamentally new technology is required. If you know something about the technical details, I'd love to hear your thoughts. If you might know how to implement something like this, I'd love to help you try. Since other people are focusing on the rest so well, this is what I want to nitpick. If you don't even have the slightest clue how to implement your idea, your idea is loving worthless. Anyone can say "poo poo man, what if we had carts that pulled themselves?" but it still took the human race thousands of years to make cars. I mean, it's one thing to have an incomplete idea of how something could work, but you don't even have that. All you have is "I'm sure computers can do it, someone wanna get on that for me?". And the answer is no, because you're a raving loony.

Dadaist art sought to divorce art from order and logic. Eripsa does the same to language, but much more effectively.

As the meat rots, sniffs to the meat generate negative credit to the meat inspector, hopefully eventually prompting the meat inspector to do something about the meat. Because it's a hypothetical and you can never criticize hypotheticals, duh. Eripsa, have you ever had a non-academia related job in your entire life?

Have you ever heard the phrase "Cutting off your nose to spite your face"? People are loving morons who will do things they know will hurt themselves out of pure spite. Saying "It's obviously a bad idea" will not stop people from doing it, even if it's 100% true.

RealityApologist posted:No, I mean people have an economic disincentive to engage with you, not that people will do it of the kindness of their heart. It is absolutely a terrible idea to keep trading with those people. People will do it anyways, because lots of people are idiotic, greedy, short sighted, gullible, sociopathic, or any possible combination of the aforementioned traits. If it can benefit them or screw someone they don't like over in the short term, people will absolutely sacrifice the long term. History is pretty much the study of what stupid loving thing people decided to do this time.

How about asking for a copy of their diploma and then contacting the school's registrar or records department if you still don't believe them for whatever reason? My shitstain uncle on my mom's side abuses exactly that kind of trust to get jobs. He lies about having his pharmacology degree despite getting kicked out of school for stealing drugs to sell for spending money. After he used it to get his first non-pharmacology related job with an employer who didn't vet well enough he just kept putting it on his resume and new employers would just ask his old employers who would all say "Yep, he has a degree".

There's also the fact that it's actually what bitcoiners erroneously accuse fiat currency of being: backed in value by nothing but the hopes and dreams of the people using it.
