Never underestimate the delusional stupidity of a fan. There's a local kid who will MS-Paint the flyers for local shows and then set up a gimmick table at the show where he tries to sell his old wrestling games/DVDs for close to retail prices and 8x10s of himself.

This kid sounds amazing.

Not to mention that when they show the replay of Taker tapping like 7 different times and talk about it for 10 minutes, it's hard to suspend your disbelief that the ref would just be like nope never happened.

I actually kind of like when they use the wooden skewers. It makes for a really cool visual and honestly probably doesn't do that bad of long term damage.

What flippy stuff are you talking about, because the flippy chain wrestling segment was at the beginning of the match. Also if you don't expect flips from a Ricochet vs Will Osprey match I don't knew what you expected.

So yeah, there's a worry that Matt will get a little too self-aware with his gimmick and try too hard.

WWE's unique(in terms of pro wrestling) that they really eschew the competitive aspect of the artform for the storytelling. Match results only matter in the grand narrative. Very rarely does an act in the match actually matter. That's also where the criticism that WWE's writing is terrible comes from.

They are also unique in that the grand narrative also doesn't matter.

Even if you hate everything that happens in a ring, I find it hard to imagine why someone would see how AJ has been portrayed in WWE and find it boring. He's been surprisingly well protected and presented in a way that gives him a pretty unique character as this arrogant outsider out to get people who have offered him perceived slights. Nobody is going to say he's a great promo or anything, but as a "drama character," he's been as big a success as he has as wrestler since coming here.
