In his quick search of the room while Ivan is still fiddling with the door, Anciano finds... the remnants of a thin wire next to the lock, the remainder seeming to have been pulled under the door when the tension was released. Other than that, some very solid looking obsidian statues. Then come the arrows and battle.

"Most plans are critically flawed by their own logic. A failure at any step will ruin everything after it. That's just basic cause and effect. It's easy for a good plan to fall apart. Therefore, a plan that has no attachment to logic cannot be stopped."
Anciano

Taking cover behind the statue across the room from him, Anciano releases a cloud of mist from his armor, further obscuring his position. From there, he surveyed his opponents. The lighting here wasn't good enough for his trick from earlier to be as effective on the guards, but he couldn't think of anything more useful. As for the lizards, he recognized them as Displacer Serpents, and knew some of their tells, which would help him aim true. He began by testing his aim a little, and launched a beam of ice at one of the serpents heading the pack. Unfortunately, thinking about too many things at once threw his aim off, and the shot went wide.

(Move action to K20, behind the statue, Swift action to activate Mithralmist Shirt, firing Ray of Frost from my gloves at the serpent at I13. The shot was a clear miss with a 9. Spent 1 Inspiration on boosting Knowledge: Arcana, and made Knowledge Devotion rolls for the Shadow Guards and Displacer Serpents. Even with a low roll, I get a +1 to hit and damage on the guards, but I get +3 on the serpents. 3 Inspiration left for the fight, three uses of Opportunistic Piety, no more Arcane Dilettante, and all my Adept spells.)

While Barkley bides his time, Dina moves decisively forward to engage the new enemies that presented themselves. Moments later, all three serpents slithered forward, biting at her and with her own blow going wide as they came in. Two of them chew fruitlessly on her armor, but the third goes after the much less armored Ivan, chewing on one of his tentacles. Not that the serpent seemed to terribly appreciate the taste, but it still hurt.

Meanwhile, Anciano took cover behind one of the statues in the previous room and took an icy potshot at the serpents, though their headache-inducing appearance caused his attack to go wide as well.

As the sounds of battle begin to clearly resonate within the nearby room, Barkley finally steps into view of what is going on: ...and perhaps surprisingly becomes giddy like a schoolgirl. Stepping up beside Anciano, he proclaims excitedly, "Oh my god look at those shiny, glistening new pairs of boots this is the best day ever." In so saying, he marches up behind Ivan whistling a gleefully murderous tune, and lands an expertly placed stab between the man's writhing tentacles, slicing cleanly through much of the head of the serpent biting at Ivan. He then announces to the others, "Dibs on that one's carcass."

While a battle breaks out in the doorway, Marcon takes aim at one of the far guards and lands a brutal shot, Staggering, he snarls and fires back. Perhaps due to the accuracy needed, or the pain, he cannot place his counterblow though. The other guard, also having no desire to shoot into the brawl, squints and takes careful aim at the tiny dragon flitting around the statue. Despite Xerxes' attempt to duck behind its head at the last minute, the arrow goes straight through his wing.

Meanwhile, in the doorway, Barkley and Ivan hack through one serpent and start on a second, while Xerxes' breath bathes them all in fire, but merely washes over his companions harmlessly. It does wrap around both serpents though, with one managing to hide behind the opposite side of Dina's shield.

Another cleric had apparently entered the battlefield, this time wearing plate mail and brandishing a shield. He had used the appropriate counter to such a problem only moments ago, so it appeared as if he would be forced to hold back in his next strike while mentally preparing himself to execute the same solution once more. He took a step forward and violently tore into the serpent harassing Ivan, accidentally cutting it into four separate pieces. He barely even registered the killing blow, focusing his mind on the next few moments far more than the ones currently passing. While his allies are unaffected due to his prior ministrations, the serpent in front of Dina noticeably slows in its movements. Arthas though also seems to ignore the cloud of gas and stares balefully at the small lizard. "Deal with that thing, you two. I have other matters to attend to." And she looks right at Dina.

As instructed, the two guards adjust their aim towards Xerxes and let fly! Perhaps inspired by who is instructing them, they both strike true. Perhaps due to the doorway though, they're more of glancing blows though.

On the bright side, the serpent was flanked. On the downside, it had cut off a clear line of escape for Dina, and similarly any path reinforcements might take to support her against the cleric. That was a situation he couldn't risk letting continue for more than a few heartbeats, so he reflexively dropped his halberd, spinning on his heel while drawing his scythe and using the momentum of his rotation to cut a deadly swath through the creature's exposed flesh. Behind his mask, he smirked a little: three hits in a row against these snakes meant the luck of the Masked Lord himself must have been with him. As the creature reeled from the force of the blow he took a step behind the doorway and closer towards the pillar, concerned that his presence was otherwise blocking the shots of Marcon and Anciano.

Temple of Mystra, Lower Temple - Day

As Barkley powerfully strikes true against yet another serpent, Xerxes bathes the entire area in entangling flames. Besides crisping the corpses Barkley wanted to make shoes out of, it also engulfs Arthas. As it fades, she's clearly taken some damage and the writhing fire winds around her limbs, but it doesn't seem to actually hinder her at all. As the fight in the doorway rages, the bow wielders on either side conduct their own duel, with Marcon's arrow piercing deep into the one already grievously wounded. Staggered but not quite dead, he fights past the pain to draw one more bead on the tiny dragon lurking in the doorway, delivering a brutal shot of his own into the tiny reptile, before collapsing unconscious to the ground.

Meanwhile, the uninjured guard fumbles and drops the arrow he was supposed to be shooting, and Ivan takes moment for a breather after getting repeatedly bitten.

Arthas took full damage from Xerxes. She does not appear to actually be Entangled though. Marcon's shot drops the guard to 0, so he proceeds to take one last attack and crits Xerxes.

Xerxes takes 15 damage from the one arrow.

Stepping around Dina's blow, Arthas returns the favor with her own swings. Apparently the dodge unbalanced her though, as both her swings go wide.

"Most plans are critically flawed by their own logic. A failure at any step will ruin everything after it. That's just basic cause and effect. It's easy for a good plan to fall apart. Therefore, a plan that has no attachment to logic cannot be stopped."
Anciano

Silently vowing to spend his portion of the group's earnings on trading up to magical equipment with more stopping power, Anciano fires off another ray at Arthas. However, he notices a weak point left open by her wide swings, and manages to aim for it.

(With a 17 on my ranged touch attack, I'm using one Inspiration to boost its damage using Cunning Insight, leaving two points remaining if I've been counting correctly. That adds my Int mod to the damage, for a total of twelve damage.)

Barkley
He frowned, "You are literally ruining my new pair of boots, Xerxes!" This was a situation that could not be undone. A travesty of the highest magnitude. He had to end this before there was nothing left to salvage. He waited as patiently as he could for Marcon to let fly his arrow into the nearby guard, so that he wouldn't be in the way of the shot, and then he weaved dangerously through the flying arcs of the cleric's mace, slipping into a flanking position opposite Dina, and slicing an incredibly bloody gash through the seams of the woman's armor with his scythe.
